How Are "SDAs" Not In Harmony With The Apostles?

I take it that by saying “reinstitute” that this is a public admission that you have switched to a church who carried out the first Inquisition, killing many people just for not believing right. And you say that Adventists are in favor of reinstituting" this? I’d like to hear you explain that. Do you dream these things up while you are knitting?
It was said that SDAs are the best “argument” for reinstituting inquisition, not that they wanted to reinstitute inquisition.

As in if I wanted to reinstitue inquisition, I’d use the SDA church as my argument in favor of the reinstitution of the inquisition.

Which I personally think is a little harsh. 😦

No, it was the Spanish crown that instituted the first Inquisition and it only investigated Catholics. St. Teresa of Avila was brought before the Inquisition twice. But as a former SDA, I sometimes feel that another Inquisition with a broader scope wouldn’t be amiss.

I’ve only met one. He knocked at my door, discovered I was a Bible reading Catholic and ran.
When they knock, open the door and bless them with the Sign of the Cross. 😃

Okay, that was mean. Forgive me and bless all the starving pigmys in New Guinea.

Happily:

Actually it isn’t really. In fact, the SDAs would be ecstatic. Being persecuted by the Catholics is their fondest hope and dream. It would give credence to their pseudo-prophet and all of her pseudo-prophecies. Persecuting the SDAs is probably the kindest thing we could do for them. And in light of their blasphemies (Jesus is Michael, not equal to the Father, and founder of their sect) and Catholic bashing and acceptance of abortion it would probably be nothing more than justice.

Okay, I’m not serious. But isn’t the whole concept one of those things that make you “hmmmmmm”?

Wow, that’s the most twisted accurate argument for the inquisition I’ve ever heard 😃

I could be persueded… :hmmm:

Ellen Gould White, the “SDA Pope” (my term), was struck in the head by rock when she was young and nearly died, by historical accounts. She received at the very minimum a concussion, more likely much worse. Years after that head trauma, she became interested in the “Millerite” cult, which gathered believers together in 1843, then 1844 for the rapture - which never happened. Ellen then moved to form her own culture, which was clearly bible based, but relies heavily on her “inspired” writings. How heavily? She is reportedly the most published female author yet. That’s heavy reliance.

Only after receiving and living with the head trauma for some time, she began prophesying and receiving visions. Is it just me, or do I detect the aroma of lutefisk here?

The Whole Jesus=Michael thing is new to me! Thus, they share it with the Jehovah’s Witnesses for some reason, and that is why they are grouped together with the JWs and Mormons as “adventist” (end times) faiths. Of the three, the SDA are the only true Christians, however aberrant some of their teachings. The Catholic Church recognizes their baptisms as valid, thus easing the transition for those who seek Christ in the Flesh, not just in the paper.

Christ’s peace to all.

Is this what you do when you find yourself in checkmate?

You so funny 😃
Hey; you would win to be sure if this was chess! I don’t like the game so I am very unknowledgeable there. Now, in the gym…that’s another story…

I’ll bet you’d be a fun neighbor to have. I’d probably have to call an ambulance whenever I came to your door to say “Hi How are you guys doing?” You’d be so shocked to see an Adventist be nice to you, and treat you like a neighbor - Just don’t get that machine gun out that is in your “smiley” above in your last post!! It looks like it is bad for the health!! :blessyou:

No, not at all. That wasn’t me I swear, that was realcatholic!

If we were neighbors you’d come over and I’d grill you the best doggon flat iron steak (if you are not a vegetarian) with garlic cream sauce you’ve ever put in your mouth with a baked sweet tater (that’s what we call’em in Tennessee) and some steamed green beans!

I’d have a glass of wine and you’d have your choice of non-alcoholic beverages and then we’d commence to a friendly debate. I have lots of SDA friends. I told you I was just in your church this weekend welcoming a brother into the Christian family.

This is all good fun. I’m sorry if I’ve offended you. I hope I can redeem myself. 😊 Please forgive, k? :o

I think her “Little Friend” is “symbolic” for “the truth.” 😃
It’s got to be a guy, girls don’t get that violent. Okay, well maybe G.I. Jane, but let’s face it she’s not going to need that kind of ammo for just one little SDA 😃 (pun)

Where in the world do you get these things? You are going to get banned if you’re not careful :tsktsk:
**

Andy ou think that would be a Bad thing? You should see the one’s I don’t copy They are really BAD! That one is cute! **

That steak sounds like something I’d give to Rover next door, but everything else sounds good. But don’t worry; I wouldn’t bring over any of those ugly “meat analogues” either. I would just have extra beans and garlic! Oh boy! The wife will run then, eh?

So don’t worry, all is well, NO offense has been taken!! :signofcross:

It is simple. We do not teach that - but the Pope and what he says is considered “on par” with Scripture by Catholics all over the world.
Well, it seems that each of us have misunderstood the other, in that case. The Catholic Church does not consider what the pope says “on par” with scriptures either.😉

**I am a 64 year old Male, I have nothing against anyone at all. Even heretics. JW and Morman do tend to make themselves unwelcome. SDA are much nicer than some real Protestant denominations. Many theologians, and I also think SDA is a cult. I do not associate with cults, nor attend their services! **

** Happily, did you know that SDAs think we are children of the devil with 666 on our forehead. You want to eat with someone like that? It is well documented that Ellen G. White taught that the Sabbath will be the “great test of loyalty”. That those who observe the false Sabbath **(Sunday) will receive the mark of the beast. Those that keep the true Sabbath (Saturday) will receive the seal of God.

I have lots of SDA friends. I told you I was just in your church this weekend welcoming a brother into the Christian family.

**Watch your eternal soul my friend! A controversy has always surrounded the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church as to their place among Protestant denominations. Counter cult ministries question the SDAs aberrant (or heterodox) teachings. The SDA church now even publishes two of their own Bible translations. The Study Bible and the Clear Word Bible, which further separates them from Protestant denominations. **

The Branch Davidians are a sect that originated from a schism in 1955 from the Davidian Seventh Day Adventists, themselves former members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church who were disfellowshipped during the 1930s. From its inception in 1934, the splinter movement inherited Adventism’s apocalypticism, in that they believed themselves to be living in a time when Christian prophecies of a final divine judgment were coming to pass. They are best known for the 1993 siege of their Center near Waco, here in Texas

This is all good fun. I’m sorry if I’ve offended you. I hope I can redeem myself. Please forgive, k?

** My advise to you happily is 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 (NIV):

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?

What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

“Therefore come out from them
and be separate, says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”**

*Yes, what you say about the Church as an “entity” is true. But I meant it in the sense of a body of Christians.

With warmest respect for what you’re saying, I was catechized to believe that the Church Christ left with Peter is still in tact even though there are “limbs” that have broken away from Christ’s Church, they are nevertheless still a part of it. To say that the Church (body of Christians) is only those confirmed catholic is to separate us from other Christians and leave Christ’s promise to us broken. *

Yes, of course.
happilycatholic;4387509:
There are those who left the faith, but that does not negate Christ’s promise that the Church remains. We are not separated from our brethren by faith, only the correct practice of it. I think the scripture you quote can be taken to mean the Church as a body of baptized individuals practicing the catholic faith, not withstanding those who do not.
I don’t see how.
I do not believe you can separate the church from the sinners within it. Since “the Church” is referring to a body of people, not an entity.
The Church is much bigger than “a body of people”. This may well characterize the Church militant, that is still on earth, working out salvation. But, we also have the Church suffering, those who are being purified for the Kingdom, and the Church trimphant, who are already reaping their heavenly reward. Most essentially, we have Christ, who is the Head of the Body, and the Soul of the Church, which is the Spirit of God. It is these divine elements that make the Church holy, infallible, and without blemish. This state of sanctity has not yet been reached by those who are joined to her, but if they continue, they will become like Him.

Heb 12:22-24
“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”
Code:
If you interpret the scripture below the way you have, you are saying that Christ gave himself up for only those confirmed in the catholic faith.
I am sorry, I guess I don’t understand how you see this. 🤷
Code:
I am not on board with that and I know a deacon in my church who made it perfectly clear to me that his Protestant parents were in Heaven. ( I was slightly scorned for thinking otherwise.)
I would be interested in hearing whether you believe our Church teaches that only confirmed catholics receive the benefit of Christ’s sacrafice. Please undestand, I’m not being confrontational. Some of us are not catechized correctly, it’s sad but true. And I want to make sure I have the correct belief. Incedentally, the catechism is on the Holy See’s website and as I read through parts of it, it seems at times to be referring to the Church proper, but at other times referring to the Church as a body of believers (like in matters of faith, as an entity can’t have faith) I think it’s a matter of context with the catechism and the Scripture. This could make for good discussion among us catholics. It would be a welcomed change from having to defend ourselves.
I do not understand your point of view, I am sorry. Only Christ knows those who are His. We are not in a position to make such judgements.
No EGW, no remnant church. They would like to sweep her under the rug, but they cannot completely do so. That is why they keep her radical teachings primarily to themselves. Did you know she had a vision whereby God supposedly told her that the Pharisees wanted Mary to “get control” of Jesus? And that Jesus’ “older brothers” were constanly irretated by Him? She wrote these things in a book titled, “Desire of Ages”. She has written some really blasphemous stuff.
It is no wonder Protestant 101 is reluctant to “own” her, then.

** Hi 101,

Yea, Happily doesn’t know much about SDA it seems. I don’t claim to have any SDA friends but even I know that most SDAs are vegetarians. He is a very nice guy, but not well informed.

Your false prophetest, Ellen G White, was a vegetarian so most SDAs follow her ways, although it isn’t required, yet! If that was your cult’s only peculiarity, besides your meeting on Saturday to worship, there would be very little to worry about. I don’t worry about protestants because they are still christians. They aren’t fully Christian but they can enter into heaven. Their souls are saved through Jesus’ sacrifice, just like all real christians.

I know that you teach that Sunday worship is the Mark of the Beast, and Sunday worshippers, you are taught, are Satan worshippers. Your cult condemns millions of christians to Hell unjustly! Would you deny this? How can you? As long as your cult keeps quoting Ellen G White, you will have this vulgar heresy stuffed right back down your throat. Ms White was a heretic, and she added things into the Scriptures. She founded the Seventh-day Adventist church, and as a member, you must vow to believe that she was a prophet! Correct?**
