How convenient to decide to go back to the original topic of the thread when it’s clear you have avoided answering questions and points put forth in response to your questions and points.

Now we should respect the privacy of this thread and go to a thread you started so as we can stay with an agenda you have laid out. I’m sorry, but I’ll be honest and blunt, this is highly suspect, in my opinion. This is why I find your attempts at discussion to be less than honest.

Would you care to share your agenda with us?
My agenda is to share information on issues central to faith. I do not wish to engage in disrespectful or sarcastic exchanges with people.

I’m sorry, I searched your post and cannot see where you answered my question.

Is man’s interpretation of scriptures infallible?

It seems we have a difference in interpretation and I have provided scriptures telling us the Church is the pillar and ground of truth and the manifold wisdom of God maybe made known through the Church, which is where I accept an interpretation. Please show me the scriptures that tell us that we should individually interpret scriptures for ourselves and that multiple interpretations are TRUTH.
The church by the way does not consist of a handfull of “Roman Catholic” cardianls, bishops priests or even the pope. The church of God are the called out ones, those who are born again, lead by the Holy Spirit. We are to study the scriptures so we may learn more and be a strong witness for Christ. Ralph

It’s apparent you do not wish to answer questions or points raised to the issues you bring forth, as you’re still avoiding addressing the responses we’ve brought up.

We have MANY that come to the Catholic Answers Forums to “enlighten” us, but reject what we say and do not even offer the courtesy of addressing our responses. When we respond, it becomes time to change the subject or ask more questions. Next, I expect to see a laundry list of objections to the Catholic faith.

I apologize if this seems disrespectful or sarcastic, but I will speak my mind. I will not simply change my beliefs when one comes and gives us “new” ideas without discussing them thoroughly.

If you find my assertions disrespectful or sarcastic, maybe you will understand how your assertions against our faith is viewed. If you come to make assertions and point out how we are wrong, you should at the very least expect a tough argument, with even tougher questions.

PS, I don’t believe one may rule over God’s people. Remember when James and John sought to get a prefrerred position among the apostles with the help of their mother, Jesus reproved them. You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave, just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His Life a ransom for many ( Matt. 20:25-28). These verses sure don’t sound like any pope I have ever seen. To me, your pope and his leaders act like Pharisees. Get my point?
Peace, Golfjack

Hey Ralph,

Tell me how your response answers the question, “Are all men’s interpretation of scriptures infallible?”

We can discuss the authority of the Church if you wish, and with scriptures, but you really should answer a few questions too. The Church is a body of believers, but does that mean we all have authority to make eccumenical decisions?

Do you remember Christ saying there would be one shepherd and one flock? Do you remember right before His ascension, He asked Peter to feed His sheep 3 times?

To me, some Protestants act like they just don’t want to be fully obedient, to His Church, His Word, and it leaves one to wonder how obedient to God they are “willing” to be? This is an example to show you how silly your statement against the Pope, the Apostolic leader of His Church, is. You view them as Pharisees. Would it be fair to say you JUDGE them to be like Pharisees? Get my point?

Have you ever read any of Pope Benedict’s writings? Do you realize He has totally dedicated his life to God? You look at the outside appearance and make judgments!

We pray for His will to be done and then we try and justify what His will is, as long as it fits our theology. That’s what it sounds like to me…

Roman catholics are the only ones who believe that the pope is infallible, I never heard of anyone being infallible except Christ. So they say that the pope is the only one who can interpret scripture because of his position. I would like to ask him if he is a born again christian, does he have the Holy Spirit. Ralph

Are you saying, Catholics are the only ones that believe Christ when He said, even the gates of Hell shall not prevail against His Church? Are you saying, Catholics are the only ones that believe Christ when He said, He would be with us until the consummation of the world? Are you saying that Catholics are the only ones to believe Christ when He said, He would send the Holy Spirit to be with us? I certainly believe all of these!

Why would you want to ask the Pope or anyone else if they are a “born again Christian”? When did you receive such authority?

I believe Catholic’s believe in apostalic succession. But what does this mean? Is it a position of authority, where one may rule over God’s people?
Peace, Golfjack
Yes. Hebrews 13:7 “Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.”

Hebrews 13:17 “Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.”

Hebrews 13:24 “Greet all those who rule over you, and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you.”

2 Corinthians 10:8 “For even if I should boast somewhat more about our authority, which the Lord gave us for edification and not for your destruction, I shall not be ashamed—”

1 Timothy 5:17 “Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.”

2 Corinthians 13:10 “Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the authority which the Lord has given me for edification and not for destruction.”

Paul speaking to Bishop Titus: Titus 2:15 “Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.”

Jesus speaking to His chosen Disciples: Luke 10:16 "He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”

The hierarchy has the authority of God over the Church. It is passed on throughout the ages. The first instance of Apostolic Succession was Acts 1 when Matthias was chosen to take Judas’ place.

Later, as the Church grew in great numbers of members, each bishop chose his own successors, bishops and priests and deacons. 2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU! But, I’m afraid that doesn’t fit their theology. 🤷

Ralph,

It appears from your posts that the Pope is wrong and all Catholics, including those on these forums are wrong, yet you are right. Am I too assume you are infallible?

Why don’t you try and educate yourself about such matters before making statements that are apparent misconceptions?

Not everything a Pope says is infallible. We do not say the only one who can interpret scriptures is the Pope. Those are common misconceptions made by Protestants infected by some anti-Catholic statement made by someone else who is not educated on the subjects. It’s like the blind leading the blind, and really takes away from anything valid you may have to say.

No, I am not saying that Roman Catholics are the only ones believing what you quoted, these are scriptural, I believe them. I am saying, that according to the Roman catholic interpretation, only those in the upper class of the Roman catholic church can interpret scripture. Why would I ask the pope if he was born again. Well, my mandate as a born again christian (a follower of Christ) is to go into all the
world and preach the gospel of salvation to every creature. I do this in my daily walk when the Holy Spirit opens the door for me. I do ask people if they know God’s plan of salvation,if they are saved,if they are born again and if they say “no”, then I ask them if they want to know how to be saved. My authority comes from the word of God,the Bible. God has no respect of persons, just because a person may be in a position of authority does not mean that he is saved. Ralph

This conversation has moved to Matthew 23 which spells it out clearly.

Pharisaism Exposed

1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, 2 saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; 3 therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them. 4 “They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. 5 “But they do all their deeds to be noticed by men; for they broaden their phylacteries and lengthen the tassels of their garments. 6 “They love the place of honor at banquets and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 and respectful greetings in the market places, and being called Rabbi by men. 8 “But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 “Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 “Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. 11 “But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 “Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.

Is that your purpose for being here? Do you believe Catholics are without salvation?

Please provide the scriptures that show YOU have the infallible authority over all others.

Be careful Ralph, they want to block your message of hope for the world, which is faith in what Christ did for us. 👍
Peace, Golfjack

What do you mean golfjack? Surely you’re not suggesting someone be less than truthful?

:onpatrol:

PS, Your statement to Ralph about what he might believe that Catholics are not saved you know is a violation of forum rules. It seems to me you are trying to trap him. I don’t believe anyone can judge what is in someone’s heart.

But viewing the leader of a Church, like the Pope, and making insinuations that he is without salvation is an acceptable form of judging in your opinion?

As for a violation of the rules, shouldn’t a Christian tell the truth even at personal cost or persecution? I know some Mormons believe in “lying for the Lord”, but it’s as unBiblical as sola scriptura is.

I’ll be totally honest here. If I see an attempt at proseltyzation, or disrespect of the Catholic Church, or other offensive violations of forum rules, I report the post. I don’t try to hide it either, that’s the reason I post the smiley :onpatrol:.

You see golfjack, I take offense at the Protestant insinuations that Catholics need “saving” according to the standards of someone’s private interpretation. If you guys really viewed Catholics as Christians, why would you be here preaching salvation? Preaching salvation is not a discussion of theology, it a form of proseltyzing.

Protestants say they all agree on essentials, but deny Catholics agree with anything they believe. I believe in essentials believed by all Christians and I believe that agreement comes from the Holy Spirit. What I do not believe, is that the Holy Spirit leads the various Churches on “non-essentials”. The Holy Spirit cannot lie, nor can the Holy Spirit tell two truths that contradict each other. That is confusion and we know who is the author of confusion.

I believe the Catholic Church has the fulness of essentials, or truth. There are no non-essentials to the Catholic faith.

Yet the NT as inspired scripture says it is inspired.
When does the NT say the NT, that’s NT, is inspired?

How do you know all the right books are in the NT?
If the Holy Spirit, who did He reveal the list to?
NT scripture does say it is scripture because it is God-breathed.
Where does the NT say the NT is God-breathed?

2 Tim ch3

15 And because from your infancy you have known the holy **scriptures **which can instruct you to salvation by the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice:

vs 16 refers to the Old Testament
