It’s more that voting for policies that will end poverty will end abortion.
It’s pretty black and white for the voiceless little one about to be killed. Now keep in mind this is not a black and white issue.
Sounds like an argument made by this guyLateCatholic:![]()
Well of COURSE killing poor people in the womb lessens the amount of poor people being born, and thus poverty. You are simplifying the issue. The pro-life position is based upon a fallacious foundation, specifically that we live in a fair and good world and any abortion is an injustice. This is simply not true. Look at the facts. The most successful way to end poverty in any society is to allow abortion. It’ actually not even close. Forcing a woman to raise and take care of a child she cannot afford to not only ruins her life but the life of the child, increasing crime, disease, poverty. From a moral standpoint that’s the worst argument for abortion, ever.
Honestly, I simply do not understand nor can comprehend — not just based on our Catholic faith — but simply on secular science, basic human biology, how ANYONE (be it a Christian, Moslem, Jew, Hindu and especially atheists) cannot understand that human life begins at the fertilization of the human egg by the human sperm and FROM THAT POINT FORWARD it’s a new human life and that killing a fetus is killing a living human being. For me, this denial of basic scientific FACT in the 21st Century is simply mind boggling.Joining the Roman Catholic church this past Easter, I was aware that some Catholics don’t agree with the church 100% on every single issue, but I assumed that prolife would be a unifying issue for people who believe themselves to practice Catholicism.
I’ve learned that some of these people are actually pro-Choice…I understand if you’re lapsed, but this seems pretty unbelievable for active parishioners.
Clearly you haven’t stepped out of your left wing Democrat bubble enough to know what Catholics or most other pro lifers on this issue believe. When Catholics say this I don’t think they understand pro-choice. Being pro-choice doesn’t mean you would have an abortion, or even recommend one. Many pro-choice people do everything they can to help women NOT have abortions. I am pro-choice (to a degree) and - not trying to blow my own horn - have done more to help woman not have abortions than any Catholic I know, most of which don’t really care at all about pregnant women.
Pro-choice means you believe a woman has the right, up to a certain point, of deciding for HERSELF, what she wants to do with her body. It is not YOUR right to force her to do anything. Our job is to give her enough choice so that she WANTS to keep the child. My personal opinion is that approach to pro-choice is far more moral and ethical than what is preached and enforced by the conservative Catholic wing.
Now keep in mind this is not a black and white issue.
Abortion has been legal in the US for 55+ years. Poverty rose slightly then leveled off at around the time of Roe v Wade. The most successful way to end poverty in any society is to allow abortion. It’ actually not even close.
And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
Yet another silly, useless, and ineffective solution that will just get people angry and not solve anything. The answer is…wait for it…
chastity before marriage. And that, requires living the way God wants human beings to live.
It’s not an argument for abortion. It is a realization that declaring abortion illegal won’t solve anything. Stop pretending you live in a perfect world. Declarations such as “wait until marriage” or “abstinence only” won’t solve the problem. “Pro-life” isn’t a solution.Well of COURSE killing poor people in the womb lessens the amount of poor people being born, and thus poverty. From a moral standpoint that’s the worst argument for abortion, ever.
Sure, murder is always wrong. Yet, according to scholars, God has murdered 37 million people. Is torturing a child always “wrong”? Abraham didn’t think so. Is celebrating the murder of children “always wrong”? What do you think Passover is?Murder is wrong always - regardless of extraneous circumstances or anecdotal conflictions.
You are to be lauded for your efforts to prevent, but there is never a choice that a woman may make to be complicit in murder - without appropriate societal/ theological reverberations.
Not everything that is happening in our country is part of a conspiracy of some sort orchestrated by Marxists or feminists or some other group out there that suddenly appeared in the 1960s. I doubt that the placement of these clinics is part of a racist conspiracy. My point is that the targeting of poor black women is wrong.
Celebrating the angel not killing their children. That’s literally why it is called Passover. Abraham didn’t torture Isaac either amd it was likely that he was old enough to fend off Abraham and cooperated. What do you think Passover is?
There’s more to it than wait for marriage.Pro-life” isn’t a solution.
You have one of the more interesting posts on this thread. While I believe in outlawing abortion, based on protection of the innocent, there is a need in the pro-life community to understand the question asked by the OP, it it was asked in sincerity. There can be no addressing of the issue unless it is understood well enough to defend the opposition. If this is not done, we will continue to be divided and abortion will remain nothing but a political football kicked back and forth between Democrats (who support it because they do not see it for what it is) and Republicans (who oppose it being legal without understanding why the opposition supports it).The above is not meant to offend anyone (I’m sure it may have).
?silly, useless, and ineffective
Correct, there is no conspiracy.edwest211:![]()

I read a recent poll of Catholics who had graduated from a Catholic college. The question was whether or not Roe v Wade should be repealed. A majority said No.I’ve learned that some of these people are actually pro-Choice…I understand if you’re lapsed, but this seems pretty unbelievable for active parishioners.
