How can pro-choice Catholics seriously call themselves practicing Catholics?

I’ve learned that some of these people are actually pro-Choice…I understand if you’re lapsed, but this seems pretty unbelievable for active parishioners.
I read a recent poll of Catholics who had graduated from a Catholic college. The question was whether or not Roe v Wade should be repealed. A majority said No.
It’s things like this that make me think Catholic schools don’t make it more likely for your Catholic child to maintain their faith.

Nope. The primary school of faith is the family the child is raised in.
Catholic schools are suffering from the same indifference as the general public. Those parents that can afford Catholic education are dropping their children off at the curb for PSR (which is right after a Mass ironically) and going shopping at Wal Mart for an hour.

The sacraments must be some kind of magic evidently. All we have to do is make sure the kids “get them” and the rest will just happen.

The family is the primary transmitter of Christian faith. And that takes personal effort and commitment on the part of parents.

I think that many decide to blame this on poor catechesis. however, I personally feel this is an excuse for truly morally wrong behavior. There is no excuse for a Catholic to be pro-choice. With the access we have to the Internet the massive amounts of information and historical teachings anybody can and should understand what the Catholic churches position is and what the right position is on the subject.

It is one thing to be for feeding the hungry. It is another thing to preach feeding the hungry to others.
This wouldn’t be an acceptable abdication of Christian responsibility, and neither is remaining silent in the face of abortion.

I think that speaking up for the unborn is simply uncomfortable and out of fashion, and it will get you crucified in this culture. Abortion is the perverted eucharist of the secular world that is unassailable in the minds of it’s supporters.

Christianity holds sacred: “This is my body given up for you”…at all costs, including the cost of my own life for you.
Satan holds sacred: “This is my body and I can do what I want with it” at all costs including the cost of your life for my purposes.

I don’t think it’s any accident that the two are radically opposed to one another.

Your comments are misleading. They reflect eugenics and death. I’ve read the arguments and seen the stats that a baby born to a poor black mother, especially a male, is far more likely to go to prison. But because that baby is not yet born, it’s OK to kill it? That is 100% wrong.
 
It will not get you crucified. You will get profanity thrown at you and the finger. It was done to me and others.
 
Joining the Roman Catholic church this past Easter, I was aware that some Catholics don’t agree with the church 100% on every single issue, but I assumed that prolife would be a unifying issue for people who believe themselves to practice Catholicism.

God is obviously pro choice. But NOT pro choice in the way pro choice has been redefined by the corrupt. Pro choice to God when facing life and death, God says choose life NOT choose death. While death is an option, God says don’t choose that.

Which Choice one picks then, matters … HUGELY

Some of the stories I’ve read about PP and abortion decades ago especially when it comes race are absolutely reprehensible.
 
Many of them have had abortions, so they feel they need to defend their ,“choice,” otherwise they will be forced to reconcile and to carry the burden of guilt that goes with murdering the unborn.
Also, parents defend their daughter or son was involved with abortion in some way.
I’ve encountered this with several individuals.
I’ve encountered this as well. They can’t bring themselves to admit that what they did is wrong, so they defend abortion and grow very, very testy at anyone who opposes abortion. It affects everything from how they vote, to which church denomination they affiliate with, to many other things. It can be said of them “there’s something amiss here, I can’t quite put my finger on it — does this hit a nerve with them that they’re not willing to volunteer?”.

Let me be clear that my heart goes out to any poor woman who has chosen an abortion. Very often they do it out of fear or ignorance, especially if they are young and unmarried. What’s done is done, and I have to hope that mercy outweighs justice here.
 
You are right, it’s no conspiracy. It was openly stated by the founder of planned parenthood, Margaret Sanger, that PP’s mission was to reduce the populations of minorities and other undesirables.
 
Here is the truth. Poor minorities are targeted to get rid of potential problems. Margaret Sanger:

“As an advocate of Birth Control, I wish to take advantage of the present opportunity to point out that the unbalance between the birth rate of the “unfit” and the “fit”, admittedly the greatest present menace to civilization, can never be rectified by the inauguration of a cradle competition between these two classes. In this matter, the example of the inferior classes, the fertility of the feeble-minded, the mentally defective, the poverty-stricken classes, should not be held up for emulation to the mentally and physically fit though less fertile parents of the educated and well-to-do classes. On the contrary, the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.”
 
Ed, Margaret Sanger was born in 1879. Lots of other people from her generation were supporters of eugenics. They were a product of their times. That doesn’t mean that an organization she founded years ago is still operated by people who support eugenics. Here are some other eugenics supporters:

Theodore Roosevelt: “Society has no business to permit degenerates to reproduce their kind” (from a letter to eugenics supporter C.V Davenport).

Winston Churchill: “The unnatural and increasingly rapid growth of the Feeble-Minded and Insane classes … constitutes a national and race danger which it is impossible to exaggerate.”

George Bernard Shaw: “A great many people would have to be put out of existence simply because it wastes other people’s time to look after them.”

Oliver Wendell Holmes: “It is better for all the world, if instead of waiting to execute degenerate offspring for crime or to let them starve for their imbecility, society can prevent those who are manifestly unfit from continuing their kind. … Three generations of imbeciles are enough.”

Helen Keller: “Our puny sentimentalism has caused us to forget that a human life is sacred only when it may be of some use to itself and to the world.”

Other organizations and/or landmarks based on dubious beginnings are boycotted or taken out of public view and condemned. It’s very telling that with regard to this establishment and the issue of abortion, one side glosses over the appalling motivations of its founding and even names an award after Margaret Sanger.
 
Do you think people would be horrified if an award was named after Theodore Roosevelt or Helen Keller or Winston Churchill even though they believed in eugenics? Or what about Thomas Jefferson who owned all those slaves?
 
That was my thought as well. A good rule of thumb is that if your argument is a good motivation for a super villain, there is something amiss.
