How can pro-choice Catholics seriously call themselves practicing Catholics?

Everyone has their flaws. The wise will learn from history and not deliberately repeat mistakes of the past.

People are and would be horrified by those character flaws… but then again those flaws weren’t the foundation of a way to exterminate those who they saw as unfit…
Sanger’s father was a drummer in the civil war. Abandoned his faith, and spread a lie… most influencially to his daughter, who implemented his worldview to perfection…

I’m a fan of, in public conversation, floating Sanger’s dream and view of a special class of breeders. Let’s see how long these left leaning new era so called feminists stand by their beloved sacrament if it was weaponized as a way to fight the immigration problem. Open borders, but mandatory sterilization upon entering…
Never mind. I always thought people, knowing a baby is out of the womb would be against killing them. But then not only did new York disprove that, they celebrate it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Is Margaret Sanger renowned for anything else other than birth control/abortion/sex education and her thoughts on it about who needs it most? The answer to that is no. Teddy Roosevelt was the president of the US, for instance, so if we honored him in any way, it would be centered on something he did there and not have anything to do with whatever gross opinion he had with regard to who needed to stop breeding.

In recent history we’ve seen people that did good things in history being condemned and swept out of public view because they happened to own slaves (which were legal at the time) and so we must admit that Sanger seems immune to this phenomenon when her racism was ever so much worse.

The abortion industry couldn’t give two craps about women. The pro life movement cares very much about women.

Says it all.

It starts with Catholics denying Church teaching on contraceptives and birth control.

Instead of just insulting people trying to have an intelligent discussion, please identify what points you disagree with and why.

I was pro-life my whole life. I still am from a personal standpoint. But I’ve learned - and seen - that the so-called “pro-life” movement is anything but. Read the history of the moral majority. The Republican party was never pro-life. The Supreme Court that ruled on Roe v Wade was predominately conservative, just like the one today.

Unlike most people in this forum, I can stand proud in what I have done to help the unborn and those born and undervalued. But the political pro-life movement is a disgrace. A joke. A farce. It is not solving the problem. Making abortion illegal won;t solve the problem, it will make things worse. Look at what is happening now. The answer is to make abortion unnecessary, or at worst very rare. But that costs money, takes effort. When the hard work begins, Republicans run away. I’m sorry, that’s how I feel.

If insurance companies really wanted free birth control it would’ve been free all along. And if we rolled back all of the ACA mandates it wouldn’t matter, because insurance companies still would keep it available at no charge. Right?

I used to think big government could do everything society needed and like you, that opposition to government involvement in social programs means you’re opposed to the social program.

I know better now. Government is kinda terrible at doing all of that actually.

Step out of your left wing Democrat bubble and you’ll step in to the real world. 🙂

This wouldn’t be an acceptable abdication of Christian responsibility, and neither is remaining silent in the face of abortion.
This isn’t the right analogy. You say “feed the hungry” - but do YOU feed the hungry? Or are you telling others to follow your rules without following them yourself.
If someone is going to have an abortion, do you say “Keep the baby”, or do you say “Keep the baby and I will adopt it, and provide care and funding for you”.
Pro-choice people think pro-lifers are hypocrites.
On the one hand you tell a woman to keep her child and with the other you take away her food stamps.

The latter statement of course is the logical fallacy of the double standard and therefore honestly not worth anyone’s time to answer. 🙂

Try getting birth control with insurance and tell me how much it costs. Pro-tip, I just paid $2 for a 3 month’s supply for my daughter who needs it for cramps (not that I want her on it but medically it’s the best thing for her).

Given that the pro-choice party never does anything for “the born” except provide for abortions and condemn prolifers, I would say they’re hypocrites in thinking prolifers are hypocrites. I know a lot of prolife people who are prolife in many ways in addition to trying to protect the unborn from the knife.

How many prolife people on here have advocated taking away food stamps from people with children?

Personally, I think this “you only care about the unborn” schtick is just an excuse to support abortion.

But because that baby is not yet born, it’s OK to kill it? That is 100% wrong.
I am not saying that. I am saying that the pro-life position of making abortion illegal in all circumstances is not solving the problem and in fact making things worse.
The political pro-life platform is nothing but a scam to get religious people to vote Republican.
Same with gay marriage.
Nearly every other political position by the Church is Democratic (health care, the environment, helping the poor, death penalty, racial equality, equality of women, etc).

Actually it’s only pro government control of those things that is “Democratic”.

Bubble exit door… that way —>

🙂

pro-life position of making abortion illegal in all circumstances
strawman, exception for life of mother

You don’t need religion to be pro-life.

You just need logic.

There is no logical basis to conclude when the baby becomes a human life other than conception.

That was my thought as well. A good rule of thumb is that if your argument is a good motivation for a super villain, there is something amiss.
Is my argument motivation for a super-villain? Consider that abortions rate of change goes UP with Republican administrations and DOWN with Democratic administrations.
It is a known and undisputed fact that unwanted children are the number one cause of poverty - in any society.
Did I say the answer is to kill unwanted children? NO.
The answer is to fix poverty and give women the resources they need to take care of their babies.
Make unwanted babies WANTED. Give women a choice.
I am sick of people telling women to keep their babies and then taking away their health care and food stamps the next day.

Nearly every other political position by the Church is Democratic (health care, the environment, helping the poor, death penalty, racial equality, equality of women, etc).
The Dem party has done nothing for the truly poor, for racial minorities, for women or the environment for decades. It is now the party of Goldman Sachs, Walmart, the anti-union open borders, open trade that robs people of jobs.

Where does the Church support any of that?

Consider that Republicans haven’t shifted on abortion - they’re still pro life

Consider that Democrats have gone from “abortions should be safe and rare” and banning partial birth abortion (Bill Clinton, 90s) to Infanticide backed by every major Dem 2020 candidate.
