Wow, went out of town and thought this thread would be done. Some very harsh posters on this one. Shelby answered the question as best she could and seemed honest about her situation. I have read all the post, so tell me where she said she was right, tried to convert anyone to her way of thinking, thinks should be forgiven, etc. I think you are interpreting it in your own way to help your cause or just being spoiled that she has not just all of a sudden come around. I find it very sad how some have restated her position. Very. How many of you had to make the decisions she did; it is not so cut and dry. Is she suppose to just continue to beat herself up like you are for the rest of your life? In time hopefully she will she the light, but some of you could run the most devout Catholic screaming out of the faith. Do you really believe you are being good Catholic by what you are saying? Again she has never stated she was right or that any of you were wrong. You can tell yourselves what ever you want, but you are not being good practicing Catholic.
Wha? This made me smile. I’m “just being spoiled”? I don’t get what you were trying to say by that at all, lol. But ok…

Any who, I’ve been saying the same thing since the beginning, before she would have even had to time “convert” from anyone’s comments. My point has always been that’s she’s not actually answering the OP’s questions b/c she’s not attempting to justify it in any way. She’s just saying she doesn’t agree and gives no explanation as to why. If you can explain how that fits the definition of justify, I would gladly rescind my position and “unspoil” myself! It sounds like most (all?) of your post had nothing to do with me or my posts but FWIW, yes…I have never had to make the decisions she had. She didn’t have to make them either. But, both my husband and I have struggled with infertility and I also lost my only daughter in a miscarriage nearly half way through my pregnancy. I went to my big gender ultrasound to find out that my baby’s heart wasn’t beating anymore…maybe that’s why I’m so spoiled. So yea, I haven’t “had” to choose to go on birth control.

If you are told at age 25 that you have the worst circulation your doctor has seen in a woman your age and that you can either take care of the two children you have or have more children and risk a fatal blood clot what would your decision be?
To not have sex when I am fertile.

I don’t believe I’ve called anybody a troll. Not sure where you got that from. I’m just saying that the Church position was explained very well on this thread. And their concern, in my humble opinion, (whatever that’s worth) has always appeared to me anyway, to be for the well being of souls and for whoever else that may stumble onto this thread, and seek the ***truth ***of the matter.

Peace, Mark
Neither have I, nor would I advise someone to use that term, since it is against forum rules.

What has happened is that Shelby sun has effectively hijacked the thread onto her situation, and continued to argue and provoke even when both sides have stated their position and there is no budging on either side. I have seen that poster use inflammatory language over and over again on this thread, and the other forum members have been nothing but charitable and patient. They have ignored the provocation and simply tried to reiterate the Church’s position and stated they would pray for her. The OP is nowhere to be seen.

Everyone has stated their position. Maybe it’s time to leave this thread?

🤷

Fist of all, I did answer the question, of course not the way you want it answered. I told you my marriage would have ended because my husband did not want anymore children, did not want to do NFP (as we did it to try to have children() and would not tolerate abstaining, but it was still MY choice, he did not force me. I said I had a decision to make and I did. You can judge me all you want and feel good about!

To people like you( the “we” you indicated) there is not justification, so there no good answers but yours and when you don’t get it, you get ugly and lie, how very Christian of you. If you don’t want to engage me than don’t tell lies, counting on that a poster hasn’t read all the post. Stop and end it!!!

Suslar brought up the fact that I brought my marriage into but I did to better clarify my situation. She said I implied that my children were a financial drain on me, which I found repulsive at best. Was I open to having another child of my own no? Any more children that I have will be adopted, not because I don’t want to be pregnant again ( I loved being pregnant, morning sickness and all) but because their are way too many children already alive that desperately need homes and families. Now I bet you are thinking I am not a good enough person to do that because I don’t agree with this ONE point of the Catholic church. You can think anything you want about me, but I am going to defend myself when you post lies.

There are people like you judging others, call it helping, guiding, kindness, niceness, spin into any pretty little thing you want, it is JUDGING. The OP asked a question and what you didn’t like was that someone answered it in a way YOU didn’t like. I am not promoting or encouraging my opinion or saying the catholic church is wrong in any way at all. The moderators on this site are very good and if I had they would have closed the post already. This is a huge issue in the Catholic church and one I have no idea how they should handle. People are living over issues like this; married couples that have been in the church all their lives. Women are having abortions over using BC.

Let me ask you, the world is never going to be the way you want it and you can judge and preach all all day long, but have you ever held a new born addicted to crack, who will be a drug addict all their life? Have you ever seen or read reports on a child sexually and physically abused at the hands of there parents, or the ones that are killed by there parents? Have you ever met a mother that accidentally got pregnant using I NFP when she couldn’t handle anymore children only to become an alcoholic or mentally ill only to destroy the entire family? My husband works in the crime lab or one of the nations worst crime cities, so I have!

Those who only go to “pure movies”, they don’t watch TV or they only watch wholesome shows, and they only associate with others just like themselves. You know what that tells me? It tell me those people are not coming down off their high horse and going out and helping the really troubled people in this world, hookers, drug addicts, criminals, that what it tells me. Some people should not be parents! At least if we want children to stop being murdered!
You won’t be able to find any posts from me that are “JUDGING” you. It truly sounds like you are the one judging yourself. Look at all this judgment above that you’ve done!!! Not only have you judged me (incorrectly) by assuming that I’m thinking all kinds of things about you that I’m not, you are judging yourself like crazy! Because you are the one conjuring up these judgments in your own mind!

Still, your explanation above does not explain how you justify your conscience, which was what the OP asked. It’s not about whether the justification is good or bad, you simply aren’t providing one. I never said that there is no justification, in fact I provided multiple justifications that I’ve heard. I’m just not hearing one from you that has anything to do with your conscience based on being Catholic.

She explained that she had done NFP trying to get pregnant and her husband wanted no part of that again, nor would he tolerate abstaining, so she had to decide between her marriage, where she had three children and leaving or allowing her husband to stray I guess (whole other thread). I am sorry I did not mean to use your post to voice my opinion about others, that was wrong, I should have post two different post addressing each issue, but from what I read she did answer the question, IMO. I am also sorry for the pain you have been through, I cannot even imagine what that must be like. Again I am sorry for the confusion, no excuses.

If that is what you have to tell yourself to be able to look yourself in the mirror and say you are a good practicing Catholic, I feel sorry for you. You have not come across as charitable or patient in any way at all. Shelby is not provoking anyone, you are choosing to participate and making Catholic look bad by doing so. She has never stated she was right or that the church was wrong, nor is asking anyone to forgive her. You are reading all the post in a very angry, hateful way by choice, she is not forcing you to do anything. Now you what the thread to end because you don’t like what is being said. That is what there are moderators for. Just stop reading and let them take care of it. You sound like a very unkind, highly critical person. We are all sinners, even you. You seem to need reminding of that my dear!

Spot on! I see it the same way as you. I think that the truth stings people in many different ways. It saddens me because I think you and the others have been as you say charitable and patient. But for some reason, beyond my scope of comprehension, others see it differently…Go figure! 🤷

Peace, Mark

And speaking of judging…::rolleyes:

I am sorry, even though I believe in the Church teaching on this subject, you do not come across as a concerned member at all. You come across as completely and totally judgmental and not at all Christ like. You can tell yourself whatever gets you through the day, but you do not in anyway, shape or form come across as a christian defend their church. I hope you are not so unmerciful on all your post as I see you post quiet often.
Thank you einna, but don’t get these type of people mad at you because they only see things one way, their way.

You comes across as quite a bully. I cannot even believe you could read my post the way you have. If you don’t call what you say as judging and you are saying it is your duty as a Catholic, I truly feel sorry for you. You aren’t getting want, so you are get ugly, call it whatever you want. I see you have posted over 16,000 in a little over two years, which is unusual on here. You obviously have a very high opinion of yourself and what you have to say. I find nothing Christ like about you, but rather extremely cold hearted. IMO there is absolutely nothing charitable about you. Unless people think EXACTLY as you do, you attack them. I hope God finds a way to soften your heart someday, because you come across as a very ugly, unloving human being.

No more defending myself and read all the distortions. You get your way, I am done, good for you! Go lead your troops.

I just wish to say I love this post… Arguments for and against…
sometimes I’d love to comment from the bible but don’t because there are greater minds here that would counter claim my opinion…
Some people make me laugh out loud because of there self-righteous opinion.
( Yes you know who you are. ) others more humble in there approach with an opposing view.
a great debate… keep it up…:D:D:D

One can always judge behavior without judging the person. Wake up, and stop thinking like a politically-correct 21st-century mental slave!

Yes sin is sin but sometimes a person has to take the lesser of the two evils when there is no other option.
Wrong. There is always the choice not to sin. This sloppy philosophical equivocation doesn’t apply to intrinsic evil.

Not to have sex.

Oh, boo hoo! I’m a gonna die if I don’t a have a sex!!

I’m sorry, that’s just not a true statement! I think the correct response is that they see it the Church’s way.

Peace, Mark
This. The Church’s way, not our way.

The Church’s teaching, not our teaching.

The Church’s law, not our law.

The Church’s moral pronouncement, not our pronouncement.

People who don’t get this after 17 pages are just being obstinate.

I suspect that most married couples (maybe not all, but probably most) view sex as an important component of their marriage. The degree may vary from couple to couple, but at least to some degree, it is probably part of the overall picture for most couples.

I understand what the church’s teaching is. I realize that most people on this board agree with the church’s teaching. With no disrespect intended toward those who do, I don’t, and I don’t see how you can make such black and white statements. Will a person die if they don’t have sex, of course not. Might a person who, inside of a committed relationship, is forced to give up sex despite having a bona fide medical reason for not being pregnant, feel bitter about that kind of position? I think many folks would. I certainly would.

You could also get a second opinion, and you could find out about other options besides birth control - for example, aspirin in low doses, or other treatments that would not interfere with your sex life and family life.
