How do I relate to homosexual couples with whom I work?

By being warm and friendly towards these couples, I feel I am approaching the situation in the best way, and yet I fear that this attitude may lead to me beginning to accept something which my faith has taught me is not right.
I have to believe that you’re smarter than this. You know it’s wrong. If you don’t believe their arguments, there’s no reason for you to accept anything you don’t think is right.

I also seriously doubt the parents collecting their child from music class or meeting with the teacher will be discussing their lifestyle, and not the welfare of the child and their progress along with what they, as parents, need to be doing at home to support the childs musical education and development.

I am a private music teacher who just began working in a private school which, I found out only on my first day, supports gay marriage. Although I work with children mainly, there are several same-sex couples raising these kids. As a Catholic, I believe that being homosexual in and of itself is not wrong, but that living a gay lifestyle is. By being warm and friendly towards these couples, I feel I am approaching the situation in the best way, and yet I fear that this attitude may lead to me beginning to accept something which my faith has taught me is not right.

We are taught to be in and not of the world, so the reality is that we will face many things in the world that are against our faith. I am just wondering how best to deal with this one. Any ideas?
Take a large cut in pay and try to get a job in a Catholic school?
Or would that be too large a sacrifice?

Please.

Haven’t you heard the vegan joke? It applies to homosexuals too.

How do you know if someone is vegan?

Don’t worry, they’ll tell you.

Yup, I can’t imagine that they would just start discussing their sexual preferences. I can’t think of the last time I ever told anyone I was a heterosexual in daily conversation.

ā€œWelcome to Burger King, how can I help you?ā€

ā€œI’d like a Whopper, large fries, and large Coke. Also, I’m a heterosexual.ā€

ā€œCome again?ā€

ā€œNothing, just letting you know my sexual orientation.ā€

ā€œOkay. Would you like cheese on that Whopper?ā€

Agreed. Honestly, the question confuses me a bit. How can you be worried about a conscious act of choice that you currently haven’t made? Seems odd. That’s like me saying, ā€œI work with people who enjoy pizza a lot, but I think it’s disgusting. But I’m worried that I’ll be convinced by their arguments about pizza.ā€ Huh?

(BTW, I love pizza. šŸ˜‰ )

Wear a crucifix outside your clothes. This makes it unneccessary for me to advise you to look for another job, since wearing the crucifix will cause this to happen in the natural course of things.
Look for another job because she is exposed to gay people? Should she just be a shut in? Are you serious? Are any of the parents divorced and remarried? Aren’t they living in sin as well? Why doesn’t she make a thread about dealing with those people?

I think you could probably treat them with respect without them assuming you’re fine with the fact that they’re practising homosexuals. 🤷

Probably the same way that I would treat catholic parents. With professionalism, respect, and the understanding that everyone in the room wants what’s best for that child.

Exactly.

It’s a fact Catholics* contracept, it’s a fact Catholics live together as man and wife in sin, it’s a fact Catholics have abortions, it’s a fact Catholics are prochoice, it’s a fact Catholics support a female priesthood, it’s a fact Catholics do not believe in the real presence, it’s a fact Catholics never set foot in a Church other than at baptisms, weddings and funerals, and yet, these are not issues for the OP in terms of dealing with the Catholic parents she’ll meet.

*Catholics = some Catholics!

Just the homosexuality issue.

I don’t get it.

🤷

Look for another job with a Catholic employer so her values and the values of the organization she represents professionally are not in contradiction. Duh.
Should she just be a shut in?
Saint William the Hermit says maybe.
Are you serious?
Sometimes. In this case, yes.
Are any of the parents divorced and remarried?
Let’s assume yes so you can make your point.
Aren’t they living in sin as well?
See, in this case, it’s actually unknown. That’s one of the fun things about actually knowing some theology, you can answer fun hypothetical questions like these. Plus, as an added bonus, you can tell the difference between natural, but potentially sinful acts, and unnatural acts that cry out to heaven for vengeance.
Why doesn’t she make a thread about dealing with those people?
I don’t know. Maybe normal sexual relations don’t bother her as much as sodomy, but really, you’d have to ask her.

Except for John the Baptist, right? We know he’s less than an average Catholic, but we’re not sure a non-Catholic homosexual is. Makes sense.
You are distorting Holy Scripture to support claims that the Catholic Church does not teach. The Church does not teach that non-Catholics are of less value or dignity than Catholics. The Church does not teadch that homosexuals are of less value or dignity than heterosexuals. The Church doesn’t even teach that those who are both homosexual and non-Catholic are of less value or dignity than those who are both Catholic and heterosexual.
