How do I relate to homosexual couples with whom I work?

You are distorting Holy Scripture to support claims that the Catholic Church does not teach.
I’m just poking fun at people. It doesn’t rise to formal heresy, sorry to disappoint you.

Where did I say that it rises to formal heresy?

I would pick a different way to poke fun at people. There’s nothing funny about it.

There’s so much over-wrought “I can respect homosexuals more than you can!” going on in here…I’ll poke fun at it however I choose, thanks.

You might stop and consider that you’re actually unnecessarily being offensive–or do you care?

Poking fun at vegans and homosexuals just because you feel like it (vegans, really? That’s like the most harmless, not to mention off topic, group ever) really harms the spirit of charity that these boards require to serve their purpose. That is, to help people like the OP get insight on a problem in her life.

And I appear to be the only one taking her concerns about her own soul seriously. The rest of everyone is so concerned about being the most respectful to homosexuals they don’t have time for the Catholic.

Really? Know any? I do. But I was just comparing their need to tell everyone about their fetish with the same behavior in gays. You must have missed that.

You flatter yourself-way too much. It is not at all the case that those who express concern that she show respect to homosexuals “don’t have time for the Catholic.” Indeed, it is in the best interest of her soul that she show respect to homosexuals.

Something tells me I know a bit more about vegans than you do…

And the first thing I’ll tell you is that its not a fetish.

I have never seen any teaching of the Catholic church that would indicate that she should quit her job to avoid encountering gay parents at parent-teacher conferences. But if you could cite something…

Not really. I just didn’t see the issue.

Also, RyanBlack has a point.

Nice. I actually said:
Look for another job with a Catholic employer so her values and the values of the organization she represents professionally are not in contradiction. Duh.
But I like the way you twisted it to make it seem unreasonable. That’s good Catholic debating.

I do. I think a lot of us can understand the pressure exerted on a Catholic employed in a non-Catholic environment with direct contact with issues like gay parents. We’re supposed to guard ourselves, and if a Catholic feels that this is going to be spiritually detrimental they have a responsibility to try to find a better situation NOT TO MENTION that if directly queried the Catholic has to speak truthfully - and having a job with a pro-gay institution prevents that.

Why am I the only one who sees this? Oh, right, everyone else is too busy telling her how to respect the gays.

Treating people with respect and being a good Catholic are not, in fact, mutually exclusive.

And here’s the rub…sounds like treating homosexual couples with the respect required for this job may be a spiritual problem for the OP. The treating hmosexuals with respect, see, is not required for life. You can avoid that whole issue if you want (or at least TRY to avoid it by trying to change jobs). Reading this thread, you’d think we got time off purgatory by being non-judgemental to gays.

Yes, because that’s clearly what my posts were implying.

I didn’t mention that. I didn’t even imply it. It wasn’t even in the back of my mind, actually. But, now that you mention it, basic respect to people IS an important virtue, actually.

I don’t really get why you’re being so incredibly rude to everybody. What did we do to you? Most of us are even orthodox Catholics. There’s no reason to act like this.

The OP said that some children had same-sex parents. I’m not sure how that translates into spiritual danger, considering her job has absolutely nothing to do with either homosexual or heterosexual lifestyles. She teaches children. She deals with parents who talk to her about their children. But she’s worried that being nice to them will somehow “turn her” into an advocate for same-sex marriage?

Sorry, I still don’t get it.

I’m not understanding what the worry is either. Perhaps the OP could chime in and explain?

Because, she feels that what she does will, over time, affect what she thinks.

Pretty good Catholicism, actually.

If she treats unnatural sodomite pairs who are mentally abusing children as “normal” “parents” “raising” children, this is not only a lie, it is a source of dissonance which can not only affect someone’s religion but even their mental health.

Dishonesty eventually affects us.

Orthodox Catholics, huh? Good to know.
