How do non-denominational Christians pick a church?

I meant the number 40,000 which seems to be a popular number by Catholics for the number of ā€œprotestant denominations.ā€
It’s the estimated number of formal non-Catholic Christian organizations, based on statistics found in the World Book of Records, plus a random number meant to represent the number of little community-centre churches that are unaffiliated with any formal Christian organization, but style themselves ā€œChristian.ā€

Xavier, I’m really interested in the answer to my question I posed earlier:

Is the above your personal opinion, or did you find this in Scripture somewhere?
]

Judas wasn’t from Satan, but he was filled with him while he was beraying Jesus!

Hmm… I like these games… People who were ā€œnot God’sā€ but he used:

The Pharaoh (of Moses’s days)
The Witch of Endor
The High Priest (in John 11:51)
]

By high priest, I suppose you mean Caiphas? How about Rahab? Or Delilah? Bathsgeba perhaps? The list is endless, and I believe he is still using people today!šŸ‘

I think the more interesting question is, did God know that Judas was going to betray Christ, and did God desire that Judas betray Christ? Did Judas sin by betraying Christ? If so, did God desire that Judas sin?
]

Only God knows the answer to that question, but it is obvious that Christ had to betrayed, so the Romans could execute him, as the Jews had no authority! Otherwise, there would be no need for the session with Pilate! Would betraying him be considered bearing false witness? Did Jesus, who was God in the flesh, know that Judas would betray Him, and allowed it to fulfill prophecy? Not sure of the verse(I believe it’s in Malachi), where it refences the thirty pieces of siver, and the potter’s field!

Yup.

I just wonder how XavierLives could have made his statement: ā€œJudas was from Satanā€
so emphatically. Does he just know this? Or did he get a private revelation from Jesus? I’m pretty sure he didn’t get it from Scripture. 🤷

I was winging it and didn’t have my Bible handy. I guess I was being lazy and didn’t want to look it up online too. I sure hope I got the right scripture.

If it is Caiphas of whom you speak, he is first referred to in John 18:24.He questions Jesus and then sends him on to Pilate!

Two quick questions: Can you think of any other people that God has used throughout history to accomplish His will, and, If not Judas, who? Jesus had to be betrayed; it was prophesied! In order to betray, Christ, Judas, or whoever else it may have been(we know of course it was Judas), had to be allowed to get close! Did Judas know that what he was planning was a sin? Did he know early on that he would betray Jesus? Or did it come to him after the Devil entered him? God’s plan worked to perfection, and we are the benefactors:thumbsup:I cannot say with any certainty that God planned for Judas to commit suicide, but I do believe that He chose him for betrayal! In a weird kind of way, it’s like Mary; she had no clue, but God did:cool:
You will discover upon reading what is written that a great number of those whom God used did so out of their consent.For example reread the gospel according to St.Luke. Pay very close attention to 1:38 and carefully note verses 41-43 side note on verse 44 a babe in the womb leapin( never knew that the unborn could know God was near.) You should be getting the hint now that Blessed Mary did know…:cool:
God did not use Judas as person but God used Judas’s actions…God used the Blessed Mother as a person by her consent…We see no place in which Judas thanked God for using him.

Well, it was am extrapolation of several verses. Luke 22:3 says Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

While this goes straight to the point, of being possessed, I think it is quite more. Satan doesn’t just take up residence where he chooses, there has to be a foothold. Before this point, Jesus already identifies the devil.

He says in John 6:70
Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

And some time after that moment he goes to explain being of the children of the devil or being the children of God in John 8:42-47:42Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

44Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

46Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

47He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
Now, granted the John 8 scripture was not speaking to the disciples (Or Judas directly) but the instead the pharisees, but Judas seemed pretty comfortable in that group.

(I basically said the same thing on post #757 but didn’t spell it out)
You might consider re-reading Luke 22:3; John 8:42-47; 13:2, 27.

It is Caiphas, but my reference to him was in John 11:49-53:49And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

50Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

51And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

52And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

53Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

God even uses this man to reveal prophecy.

Oops. I missed one explanation. John 17:12 then refers to Judas as the son of perdition, which basically answers itself.

Does that sufficiently give ground for my reasoning?

Someday it will be one.
If you mean in heaven, then yes, that’s true.

However, the existence of 40,000 denominations is simply OBSCENE.

All who leave to form their own churches, based on their own fallible, non-authoritative, personal interpretations of Scripture, need to come back to the One Faith. 🤷

I dunno. You made a mini-doctrinal pronouncement: ā€œJudas was from Satanā€ that I’d never heard before.

I suppose those Scriptures could be interpreted as supporting that Judas was influenced by Satan (and aren’t we all? Does that mean we’re all ā€œfrom Satanā€? 🤷)

I’d be willing to accept your doctrine, if you’re willing to accept any of the Catholics’ positions regarding the priesthood, Mary’s Perpetual Virginity, Mary’s Assumption, purgatory, etc, as supported in Scripture. 😃

Well, I don’t think my thoughts on Judas are really mine. I’m just reading the Bible. As for a mini-doctrinal, I don’t think anything really hinges on it. Whether he is from Satan, of Satan, or otherwise associated with Satan, Jesus is the one making the notation and he is in a better position to understand the relationship than I. I can just take what he says.

As to reciprocating doctrines, I’ll take it under advisement.

Yes, but Mary could not have known prior to being visited by the angel! She willingly accepted her role, and was an integral part of God’s plan! If you can come up with a credible explanation, of how and why Judas came to enter Christ’s circle and come to betray Him, I am open to listen! I for one do not believe that Judas knew he would betray Jesus, until Satan was allowed to enter him! But, someone had to betray Christ; it just happened to be Judas. All of the people that God has used, and is still usng, do not always sin, or bring about chaos. Thank you Judas for playing your role to a tee!šŸ‘
