I am so glad that I am not catholic or any other denomination.
You are in a denomination, it just might not have a name. Every non-denominational church I’ve ever been a part of has either been Baptist but doesn’t want to say they’re Baptist, or they’re some variation of a charismatic denomination. You tell me what your church believes and I can tell you what denomination you are, whether the sign on the door says so or not.
I am a Christian who has accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and as a result am forgiven of my sins by the blood that Jesus Christ shed for me on the cross.
Amen! So am I! And it’s been a deeper, richer, more exhilarating walk with Him since I came into His Church!
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Yep, gotta walk in the light. Amen! 👍 Can’t just accept Jesus and sit back and wait for His return. There’s work to do! Phillipians 2:12-13 - Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but much more now in my absence,) with fear and trembling work out your salvation. 13 For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to accomplish, according to his good will.(D-R)

The answer to…or the opinion that Hillary is evil…well that would be a subject for the social justice forum…
Hillary is evil. Would you agree with that?
Actually…the discussion of political candidates is a banned topic this year at CAF. There are more than ample political forums to argue such as this in tho…

As others have pointed out xFBx, you are defacto a member of a denom. The truth is that virtually every faith community like that is tantamount to their own little denom, and usually one that infers that they are the only ones who “rightly divide the Word of God”, but even you have been proved in error on many points so far in your postings here.

I cannot see where that description fails to apply to faithful Catholics. I know it does to me, and I am astoundingly happy to be Catholic for ten thousand reasons.
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
So? All a faithful catholic will say to this is “AMEN! I believe every word of what that verse says!”. It is foundational to Catholic belief.
Awesome scripture!
👍 Fully agreed! 🙂

Will you do that today? If you will, you can be 100% sure that you will go to heaven when you die.
This is not even OSAS. It is easy believism. There are two beliefs about OSAS. The calvinist’s perserverance of the saints. And the easy believism of always saved from some intellectual assent.

Perserverance of the saints clearly means that God will go after any lost sheep and return them to the fold. This means it is a promise of God to rake believers over the coals with repentance. It is not a liscence to sin. Yet, it is not salvation by an intellectual assent.

The only true assurance of salvation is a love towards God. Not the God of one’s making but the true God in all his attributes. It includes pursuing the works that he has planned beforehand for us to walk in. It comes from being born again. Furthermore, this is a bad post. All good catholics believe in the list of things posted. The issues between protestants and catholics usually relates to not what protestants believe but in what they don’t.

It is that Catholics believe in additional things, which are seen as additions to the gospel by protestants and as necessary dogma by catholics. This difference often centers around the sacraments, traditions, and veneration of saints.

Just curious frodo,
what happens to you should you cease walking in the light. There are many, many backsliders out there that started out just as fervent as you are now. What happens to them? I know fundies that don’t participate in anything religious anymore who were once on fire like you are now. I have a sister like that, that left the Catholic Church and came down on Catholicism just like you are. She was totally pentecostal, a saved Bible believing Christian that was on fire and faithful. Now all she does is correspond with Rosy Odonnell and has nothing to do with any Church. What happens with her salvation? Is she saved? She started out saved.

Every time someone asks you a difficult question, you fall back on meaningless platitudes. You actually have to THINK and back up your positions if you want to ever be taken seriously. The people here are intelligent adults.

This verse is referring to the saints.

1Co 3:11 ¶ For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. {it shall be: Gr. it is} If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. ¶ Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

There are going to be people in heaven who, although they made it into heaven, will not have any eternal rewards because they didn’t live as a Christian should. They had an initial repentace (turning to Jesus Christ alone for salvation from their sins), but they didn’t win souls to Christ, they didn’t attend church, they lived selfishly.

The Christians works for the Lord are placed into the fire, only the ones that He did FOR THE LORD and HIS GLORY will endure. Those will be His reward.

I’m still waiting for anybody to show me a Bible verse that says one gets to heaven by “accepting Jesus Christ as personal savior.”

I’m a bit confused, and not a great bible quoter but is it not reported in the Gospel our Lord’s description of the last judgement - I was hungry you fed me, I was thirsty - you gave me drink, I was naked - you gave me cloths etc … now as a recent wanderer back to the RCC I submit to Her correction, but it seems to me our participation with Jesus Christ in our salvation is a given.

God has gifted us free will to choose our salvation.

Luke 9:23 King James Version (KJV)

23And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Jesus said if we want to be Christians, i.e. “come after Him”, we must A. deny ourselves, B. take up our cross daily, and C. follow Him. Those are three very, VERY, VERY, VERY difficult commandments. Self-denial is hard, particularly in this ME FIRST world. Taking up our cross, that is to say embracing the suffering of our day to day lives is also very hard. It is so much easier to take the easy way out. Following Jesus, being different from everybody else is also no easy task.

Now if we believe in Jesus we will obey Him. He said to do these things. Now here come the born again prots who say we don’t have to do these things, we only have to believe. But how can we say we believe while not taking Jesus at His word and doing what He says to do?

More importantly, if we refuse to do what Jesus asks, aren’t we in essence saying that we don’t want to follow Him? Surely Jesus is too much of a gentleman to drag us off to heaven against our will.🤷

It seems to me that we cover all these issues during the Mass.

I would go on to say that we Catholics make the perfect “Altar Call” every Mass when we come forward to recieve the Eucharist, where Jesus gives us His whole life—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

John 6:54
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

Our “bible believing” church believes this bible passage.
I really like this approach. May I quote this elsewhere?

What does this verse mean to you?

Ro 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.Already been discussed many times on this thread. Perhaps you should focus on discussing with us instead of stopping by to drop off an occasional verse as if it will change the whole context of the New Testament Gospel. 🤷

As I’ve pointed out to you before, yours is a truncated gospel message that is based upon on a select few passages of the New Testament and that’s all there is to it.

What will Catholics say about that verse?
AMEN! Alleluia!! I believe every word of what that verse says.

Well there you go…You do not understand what Catholic’s believe or what the Catholic Church teaches on salvation…We are saved by God’s Grace…that’s it… We are not saved by works or by faith…The only thing that saves us is God’s Grace…That is what the Catholic Church teaches and that is what we as Catholic’s believe… Where in Catholic teaching or doctrine does it say we are saved, or gain our salvation by works?
Question for you, if the above is indeed the case, then why do Catholics have to go to Mass every Sunday (and Holy Days of Obligation), or face committing a “mortal sin?” Why do they have to go Confession, and receive the Eucharist. If God’s Grace alone saves, then why do you need the rest to start with to be saved?

I find it interesting that you are using the scripture that implicitly describes purgatory to defend osas.

You have to be in a state of Grace to even make it there. You cannot have any unconfessed, unrepented mortal sins on your soul at the moment of death.

So Frodo, let’s say You’ve said the sinner’s prayer, and you’ ve totally fallen away, and before you die you break one of the 10 commandments… i.e. commited adultery, or stolen. You have neither confessed nor repented of this sin, and you die in that state. Would your statement “There are going to be people in heaven who, although they made it into heaven, will not have any eternal rewards because they didn’t live as a Christian should.”
still hold true?

It means that fundamentalists shouldn’t worry at all about the eternal souls of Catholics because they profess this very thing, with their mouth, every time they go to Mass. 👍 I’m sure there might be some who profess the Creed but don’t believe it in their hearts, but you’ll find those sorts in every kind of church, doesn’t matter what name is over the door. Jesus said He would separate the wheat from the tares when He comes.

God’s grace alone saves. God gives us grace through the sacraments.

We can choose to reject that grace, to throw it all away, by committing a mortal sin. But for as long as we live, God stands ready to restore us to grace through the sacraments.

OSAS is a false doctrine. We can lose/reject that grace. It being a free gift and all. God gave us free will. Salvation is not a one time event. Salvation is a process. Simply put committing a mortal sin is a rejection of God’s grace. Confession is a subject for another thread…there are plenty already done on this alone.

Update: I guess Gamera was posting at the same time as me…👍

What does the third commandment say?

I would recommend that you consider taking the FREE Catholic Home Study Course
http://www.amm.org/chss/images/chss3.gif
to better understand what we Catholics believe and why. The courses are not geared just to Catholics, but to anyone who wants to know more about the Catholic faith…and they are very good. 🙂

I’m working through that very course myself currently. It was hard to choose which one to do first, lemme tell ya. 😃 Can’t wait to read them all!!
