We could die and rest in state of peace or we could fall in state of sanity living forever when there is no meaning in our lives. You need a meaning to live peacefully and eternally.

What is the meaning of your life being as a Christian?

How an eternal life can grant any meaning to you? The eternal life can simply put you in state of misery. Simply a permanent Hell.
If you can not see how eternal life gives infinitely more meaning than a temporary existence, since everything you do has lasting implications, then you can not see meaning at all. It seems to me you have fear of eternal life because you do not understand it. Eternal life with God is not a state of misery, but of love, joy and peace. And love has the greatest meaning of all. Love gives meaning to your miserable existence.

If a person experiences it on the scale that God can grant, then they realize that love, alone, is what makes life worth living.
Love is simply an emotion which help us to support each other. It is deep in our natures to ensure that our temporary lives keep going. In simple word Love is an earthly thing and it does not simply give any meaning to our lives. You need Meaning if you are really looking for peace.
It’s much more than a mere emotion; it’s the reason, motivation, and power behind life itself.
Love simply a mode of emotion.
It’s the cause of most of our own actions as well because we’re drawn to that which we love.
That I agree but at the end of the day Love cannot grant you peace.
The problem is that we don’t* know* love in its pure and highest form; we don’t even look for it because we settle for lesser, vain, and futile things to satisfy our primordial need for it. But we’re actually here to look for it. As we seek God, we seek love. To the extent that we find God, we find love.
You can look for more Love and you can find more. It helps you to be bounded to each other but it doesn’t give you any meaning.
Satisfaction is complete once union with God is complete, which only occurs on a permanent or static basis in the next life. Here we only taste of Him, more or less profoundly depending on the level of revelation He grants us. In any case, “God alone satisfies”, as Aquinas put it.
We always look for something new when we are satisfied. Satisfaction simply cannot grant us eternal peace.

In 2005, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger was elected Pope and took the regnal name Benedict XVI.

good question, life depends on material integrity but eternal life depends on the worship of the true God alone.

The encyclical Divino Afflante Spiritu (1943) of Pope Pius XII is considered a milestone in modern Catholic Biblical scholarship.

The capital of India is New Delhi. 🙂
That begs the question of what happened to Old Delhi?

What is peace?

Peace is a state of mind which you cannot be bothered by external and internal stimuli.
So, if you ignore, control, dispose or prevent “external and internal stimuli” from bothering you then you’ll have peace? What if you’re dead or unconscious?

State of peace is different from being dead and unconscious. That is tightened to strength and meaning.

Love is simply an emotion. It cannot grant meaning.

You are mixing purpose with meaning when you said that you are here to serve others.

That is the point. We cannot possibly depend on Love since it is mere an emotion so it goes up and down. Meaning is what we need.
I think I am almost on the same wave length with you. Could you further define what your definition of meaning is?

From dictionary.com

meaning [mee-ning] noun
1.
what is intended to be, or actually is, expressed or indicated; signification; import:
the three meanings of a word.
2.
the end, purpose, or significance of something:
What is the meaning of life? What is the meaning of this intrusion?
3.
Linguistics.
the nonlinguistic cultural correlate, reference, or denotation of a linguistic form; expression.
linguistic content (opposed to expression ).
adjective
4.
intentioned (usually used in combination):
She’s a well-meaning person.
5.
full of significance; expressive:
a meaning look.

You stated I am mixing purpose with meaning, which is the #2 definition of meaning, but I am willing to further approach the subject with another definition of the word.
That is life. Sometimes is up and sometimes is down. I have no idea why it should be like this. I suppose you know and accept it considering the fact that you are a believer. That should be duty of Church to explain this to you.

Thank you.
I do, because if it weren’t for bad luck I wouldn’t have any luck at all. 😃 I’ve had to bust my butt for everything I have, when I do life is up, when I slack off life is down. Now if you want to know why some things come so easy to some people while the rest of us have to bust our butts. I don’t have a clue. 🤷

I see. I don’t however think that the second definition of meaning is correct.

The life is what it is.

Well I think we need to concentrate on the definition of meaning before we can find the peace. Without the definition of meaning you are searching for something that you don’t recognize.

In any case, I think the only way we can find peace is to understand why we are here. Once we have found that understanding then we have to figure out a way of balancing that with our everyday lives. If not even the meaning can be overwhelming at times which leads to the ups and downs.

King Nebuchadnezzar in the book of Judith may have actually been Shamash-Shum-Ukin, a crazy Assyrian king.

I am curious to know what is your definition of meaning, because you told the other guy he was confusing meaning with purpose. Yet, the dictionary defines meaning as:
the end, purpose, or significance of something:
What is the meaning of life? What is the meaning of this intrusion?
I happen to think the meaning of life is to love. But we can’t do it properly without God’s presence in us. I know for example my dad told me he did not know how to love even his own kids or wife until he became a Christian and God began to work on his heart.

One can recognize the importance of something when one doesn’t have it or is starved for it. There is value to life itself. We recognize generally that it is good to be alive. And that death is a bad thing. Since it is the death of something good. Similarly if we know of love, but do not experience it we know how important it is. Because we experience the lack of it. Just like one experiences starvation when one has the lack of food. We know that we need love even more than food. People will die for love.

We were created by God, and thus our eternal purpose can be found in him. The book of Ecclesiastes starts out saying everything is vanity or meaningless, which is a very depressing outlook. But, then finally by the end of the book concludes on a more positive note by saying :
The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
Here he describes our purpose is to fear God and keep his commandments. So after initially declaring everything to be meaningless vanity, he finally discovers something that is not.

Jesus himself says if you love him you will keep his commandments.
If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.

The most meaningful thing we can do with our life is to do God’s will. Nothing else really matters in the eternal scheme of things.

Now, it has great significance and meaning that we were created by God and created in his image and likeness. God has given us great gifts. For we can reason and know truth. We can know and love God. We can not just come to know the world around us, but also that which is hidden. And God raises us far above the animals to heavenly places. To eternal significance with eternal love, justice, beauty and truth. And, we are on a journey travelling to this state of perfection.
