There in the back of my mind lurks the idea that God does not exist and the universe is ultimately meaningless.

Those are the good days.

On the bad days, God still does not exist but evil does and everything that can go bad will go bad.

I like your honesty even though some may accuse you of not being inspirational faith-wise.
 
I told my doubts to my parish priest and he said my faith has triumphed over my doubts and my faith was a beautiful thing.

I asked him how he knew. His answer hit the nail on the head.

He said “You’re here aren’t you, attending mass.”

So I guess he is right.

Same as Catholics! A point of communion.

However, we live out James 2:24, as that is biblical.

Certainly you know that that each and every single biblical reference to our judgment - heaven or hell - is not regarding our faith?

Not at all.

It is by our works. Faith without works is dead.

Faith must produce works of charity, using our charisms (gifts) to edify the Church of Christ.

I think you have some serious misconceptions of the Catholic Church.

I have loved ones who I pray for everyday.

Have mercy on us and on the whole world.

This reminds me to start the Novena to the Divine Mercy tomorrow.
