While I hate pornography for screwing me up, we should pray for the man. What he did was evil, but we should love the sinner and hate the sin.
I think the statement is totally correct - except it leaves out the teenage boys of the 1960’s! Honestly. And it’s not about what’s OK, it’s about reality.Jamie5:
Oh, right! That makes it ok… are you serious? Or are you joking?Rest in Peace.
Seeing your first playboy was a right of passage for millions of teenage boys in the 70s 80s and 90s. Not condoning it but just being honest.
The truth is that Hugh Heffner hated women. He taught generations of men and women, for decades and decades, that a female is nothing more than an attractive housing for a vag*na. You see, a woman who doesn’t meet the Playboy definition of beautiful has no worth, and females are to compete with one-another to meet this definition of beautiful. Heffner was one of many who taught us this, but he seems to be held up as an “acceptable” version because his magazine was seen as the cleanest filth. How do I argue against what this man stood for with my friends (and some of them are female) who are mourning his passing?
What? You’re arguing against the… articles? Didn’t everybody read Playboy for the articles? How do I argue against what this man stood for with my friends (and some of them are female) who are mourning his passing?
It was.Rest in Peace.

True. Playboy didn’t show “full nudity,” unlike some competitors, so for that reason it was often described as “tasteful.”Heffner was one of many who taught us this, but he seems to be held up as an “acceptable” version because his magazine was seen as the cleanest filth.
Agreed. Not a prude talking here but having watched recent interviews of him where he stated he was proud of his work and thought he made a positive impact for women and this morning CNN refered to him as a Civil Rights Champion (free speech).
I love free speech. I am grateful we can chose custody of the eyes rather than censorship. But man do I think he HELPED women? No.
I think his ‘Civil Rights’ fight wasn’t noble so much as a way to get his magazine into the hands a of subscribers and ultimately self-serving. (Loads of self interest and incentives drive people to make changes and that is not necessarily a bad thing, but I’m not granting Hefner secular Sainthood for his ‘work’. He exploited young men and women.
Theologians argue it’s according to the capacity of the soul to partake in the Beatific Vision. Or put another way, according to the merits (treasure in heaven) he accumulated while in the wayfaring state. It’s also consistent with justice: the one who perseveres in a lifetime of walking the narrow path deserves a greater share in the glory of heaven than the lifelong sinner who repents on his deathbed. How can there be a “degree” in Heaven. I don’t believe, and hope that isn’t true. And if it is, I think a small shack in Heaven would be equal to a huge mansion…because you’re in Heaven.
Quite so, but we should desire the best for him, and we should hope. So let us pray for him. I pray that it may be in accord with God’s perfect will to cleanse and make holy Mr. Hefner’s soul so that he may come to the Kingdom of Heaven.… He did untold damage to our moral and social fabric with his magazine and his social philosophy…
