Some of the negativity and lack of compassionate answers from some fellow Catholics in this board would seem to be a (sadly) good reason to go to the Baptist church.

Wow…what a war of words this has turned out to be. My response will be much shorter and I am sure some of you will sentence me to hell before it is over. Nicole, follow your heart…over the years I have been in many churches. From Catholic, Baptists, Lutheran to even Jewish. And you know what? People can complain about different religions or churches all they want and the bottom line is this…who makes up the churches?..WE DO!!!
It is easier however to leave and complain but it than to stick it out and work together as a congregation to make any type of change.

Actually, the only person who has condemned anyone to hell (for not being “saved”) is nbtb1348. Some other Catholics on this thread have pointed out that it is a grave matter to turn your back on what you know to be true for emotional gratification, but have not condemned anyone. The Catholic Church teaches that separated brothers and sister in Christ may be saved, (that is between them and God) as well as anyone with the baptism of desire who responds to the light they have received in life but who may be un-Christian. The OP may not have a clear idea of what truth is, so she is not condemned if she doesn’t realize she is turning from truth.

The catholic church will not say someone is going to hell or some group. Fundamentalists attacked one of their own Joel Osteen for not saying on Larry King that all non christians (ie non-fundamentalists christians, my editorial insert) were going to hell. He said as one of us would what we believe but refused to say some group of nonchristians were going to hell and had to apologize .
I think many protestants and even other groups are going to heaven but you know what I would not presume to speak for God, God has not told me who is going to hell
I emailed a preacher who villivied Osteen and asked for his list of who God had told him was going to hell but he did not respond, probably because I told him I was catholic.
Do I believe the catholic churcha and its teachings lead to salvation? Is the pope catholic? Of course. I do know God is a God of love and he says love thy neighbor as thyself and I do a poor job of it sometimes, maybe pride gets in the way when my particular faith is questioned, but I know God has done wonderful things for me that without him would not have occurred.

Actually Angel, the fact that nbtb was the only one to “condemn” anyone, is of no consquence however it you look at my words again, I was only referring to my post, not directly to what was being said in other posts regarding condemning.
Perhaps this is another good example of what is wrong with some of the doctrines/teachings…sometimes things get lost in translations.
I know with me my writing techniques are far from what my brain things they should be!

To be clear, you shouldn’t have expected anyone to condemn you to hell for telling Nicole that it didn’t matter what Church she attends (which is my understanding of the idea you were conveying) except nbtb, since he is the only person who has made a judgment of anyone’s soul in this thread. That was my point.
But I have to disagree with you that it is of no consequence. It is, in my opinion, of great consequence to consider that nbtb’s sentiments may reflect the Baptist church Nicole is considering joining
It is also of great consequence, and disturbing in my opinion, that there is a very weak response to his rhetoric, since it is highly emotionally persuasive to vulnerable people.

I have been a celtic fan in texas since 1966, I saw them play in the astrodome in 1969, Russells last championship, Havliceks last game in Houston Birds first, a game in the old garden in 1986 against thelakers where they won big.
it reminds me of asking me to become a lakers fan would get the same result or should as asking me to become baptist.
We have to walk the line of love for one another, doing for one another and of espousing what we believe but not being presumptious.

Then perhaps you are right and I should be more clear…I don’t expect much from anyone…be it good or be it bad…it is of no consequence what peoples words are. We come here for different points of view but in the end we must follow our hearts, led by the lord our god.

The Baptist Church believes that communion is only symbolic. Do you?
The Baptist Church does not believe in infant baptism. You will need to be rebaptized if you recieved infant baptism. Do you really think your baptism was somehow invalid and need to be rebaptized?
The Baptist Church does not believe in praying the Rosary. They do not believe Saints in heaven can be asked to pray for us. Are you going to give up praying the Rosary and asking for the saints in heaven to pray for you?
The Baptist Church believes that once you are born again, you can never fall from Grace. Do you?
The Baptist Church is very different in beliefs from the Catholic Church. They do not believe much that, you as a devout Catholic, do believe.
Many Baptist Churches don’t even think Catholics are Christian.
Think long and hard, pray long and hard about this. Fellowship is nice. Truth is better.

Most baptist do not know what the catholic church believes oir teaches, they only know what they are taught.
we here on this forum are insulated by being on a catholic forum when we run across baptist who are here to learn about us, every once in a while they show some true colors when they tell us how to be saved.
let me tell you what they really think, what I was taught,
Catholics are idol worshopers who worship mary and violate the 10 commandments and are going to hell;
the pope is infallable by teaching of the church and catholics must obey everything he says and he will control america if cathlics are elected to office;
the pope is the anti-christ spoke of in revelation;
catholics are heritics and pagans
the church is full of homosexuals and most priests are there to fulfill their sexual desires;
do you want me to go on?
this is not the position of angligans(church of england-course they used to burn priests) or lutherans but baptists, pentacost etc, the most fundamental sects and I admit most often the rural less educatd sects and congrgations are taught this.
Baptist posters on this forum are from cities and do not know what their brethen in rural areas teach about us.

As a former small town Baptist, let me agree. We understood nothing of what the Church really taught, else we would have all been in RCIA.
Baptist theology is attractive, but that does not make it all true. OSAS sounds nice, though it is only through cherry picking verses that one supports it. Having enthusiastic groups of people, bonding, fellowship and the like are nice. Those things pull you in.
They do not and will not replace what Christ has commanded including following in the one church He established.

Millions and millions of joyful and obedient Christians can’t be all wrong, especially when they are surrounded by so many excellent Bible scholars and teachers. These Baptists may look threatening to the RCC, but what you need to focus on is following the fruit and the joy!

1.1 Billion Catholics can’t all be wrong,especially when they’re surrounded by the True Church founded by Christ in 33AD and fed by an infallible shepard the successor of Peter,the Servant of the Servants of God.
These Catholics have the whole body of Scripture,all 72 books,not the Reader’s Digest version of Protestantism.In addition these Catholics have Holy Apostolic Tradition which these Scriptures came from as well as an inerrant Magisterium or Teaching Authority guaranteed by Christ and forever protected by the Holy Spirit.These Catholics also eat LIFE at God’s own command in obedience to his Teaching and Commandment.Truly the Fruit and the Joy.
The Baptist sects founded by men like John Smith in 1606AD are insignificant compared to the glory and truth of the ONLY Church founded by GOD HIMSELF.The only threat these Baptist sects pose are to their own adherants who are being led into error.
