First he lied to me about some things, and then he joined the Church of Scientology…and tried to convert me. bye-bye!
this cracked me up!!! i would have RUN the other way very quickly hahahaha

I knew I couldn’t marry her when

Girl #12
She adopted a cat and kept it in the house then didn’t clean up the fecal matter the cat left behind.

Woman #9
She asked me if I thought her 22 year old daughter was “hot”. Never did quite figure out where that was headed (I was only 28).

Girl #7
Hated her parents and wrote poetry about.

Woman #4
Asked me if I would make her student loan payments because she was behind that month.

Woman #3
Wanted me to spend more time with her - to the point of wanting me to not go to work.

Woman #2
Stole money from my wallet, bank account and borrowed my car when I was sleeping. Claimed we’d be married soon so it didn’t matter - it did.
WOW!!!
people do these things?!?!?!

When she started having group sex with strangers. Sure, we’d broken up at that point, and there had been some warning signs before then, but there was still a glimmer of hope that we’d be able to get back together and hash things out. I reconsidered very quickly after that.
yea, that would kind of be a deal breaker for me lol

First date when she said to me, “Why read a book when you can watch the movie?”

It was over before it started.

That is a big variety of bad luck for one person. It does happen, though.
To be honest I have always considered my “quest” pretty mild except for the woman with the “hot” daughter - there was a lot of “reflection” on what I was doing and where my life was headed after ending that relationship.

Woman #2 was the one I had a LTR (over a year) with before I met my wife. She made me appreciate my wife that much more. 👍

I realized God was calling me to the monastic life and becoming a priest.

Timeline

July- Went to a spiritual retreat. Girl I like told me she liked me. Next day, she kissed me on the cheek.

August- She explains in an e-mail that that kiss was a goodbye kiss so I can discern whether the priesthood was right for me or not.

September- I figure my vocation was marriage and becoming a deacon and canon lawyer. How wrong I was.

October- Went to another spiritual release. I get the Dark Night of the Soul. Immediately afterwards, I discover my vocation.

Here I am now.

:highprayer:
Sounds like a Freudian slip–but a good one. Release indeed. 😃

I had wanted to be a Franciscan sister, but God said no. But, that’s another story.

In college I fell for a guy who sang, played guitar, wrote his own music–everything I could want since I did all those things too. I was crazy in love, but I knew it was never meant to be when he started treating me coldly and distancing himself from me, although I know he had been attracted, as well.

I was engaged 3 times in college (the guy cited above wasn’t one of them). Even had two engagements rings, but somehow it never worked out. I found out one of them was a child molester. :bigyikes: And another thought he wanted me but really wanted someone else.

Ah the troubles of youth and love. I met my dh when I was 34 and thought I was going to remain single. When we met he had some issues, but they were circumstantial ones. He was kind, caring, and patient–still is. We were married within a year and it’s lasted 26 years.

…I realized he had no idea what he wanted to do for a career and that we would always scrape to get by because he had little ambition, no desire to further his education, and no way of generating much of an income, but I always knew I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. Also, when I realized I was smarter than him and for some reason that really bugged me!

Two years wasted! Probably why it bugs me when I see my own kids waste their time . . .

First date when she said to me, “Why read a book when you can watch the movie?”

It was over before it started.
I had a one-date wonder ask me why I had so many books in my house. And he was not asking admiringly.

Sigh…

Let’s just say that my “quest” didn’t have nearly the cast of characters that yours did, and I’m still glad that I never ever have to go looking for a husband again. I’ve been married over 20 years. If, heaven forbid, I’m ever a widow, the Good Lord is going to have to bring the second one to me, because I have no interest in anyone except the one I have. I certainly have no interest in the ordeal of looking for someone.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away…

Young woman #1: When she told me how she thought it was a good idea for a man & a woman to live together before marriage.

Young woman #2: When she told me how much she admired Betty Friedan & Gloria Steinem…and got mad at me when I held a car door open for her the same evening.

Young woman #3: When she dumped me because I wouldn’t put out.

Gee, you think I’d have quit. And yet…my 11th Anniversary is in a few months.

We had known each other or a couple of years before we went out on a date.
He was tall, dark and handsome and I really hadn’t noticed until a month or two before our first date.

On our first date, we went to the movies and then dinner. As he drove on our way back, we laughed and teased each other and made playful jabs at each other’s taste in music.

Sounds cool so far right?

Well halfway home, he pulled over into a deserted street.

“Excuse me, he said and got out of the car.”

To my shock and horror, he had pulled over to urinate.

Dumbfounded I watched the yellow stream make its way down the concrete.

So that was that.

My bad.😛

It’s pretty much always the same. When the selfish attitude, possessiveness or manipulative controlling behavior appear then I know it’s not right. Sorry I just attract the same sort time after time it just takes a little longer in some cases for the behavior to rear it’s ugly head.
Interesting. Manipulative is rather self-evident but would you mind if I asked what what the threshold levels were for selfish and possessive?
IQ test smart may not matter, but you would be foolish to marry someone whose judgment you do not respect. Besides…the poor guy!! That never works out well for anyone.
I could probably live with that. Some time near the end of law school I realised I didn’t have to be smarter than everybody I talked to. Or maybe it was after experiencing burnout within one year following graduation. 😛

I was married to a man who was thoughtful and kind. He isn’t baptized. At first we didn’t want children. As I grew back into being Catholic he had no interest. I flip flopped on the children decision and it was important to raise them in a Catholic family. In addition, someone earlier talked about not wanting to have his kids…I ditto that sentiment. Unfortunately, for us, that ended in divorce…that was a few years ago.

Currently, I am emotionally involved with a man who has become increasingly dedicated to his work. He leaves at 630 AM and comes homes most days after midnight. He sleeps most of the weekend and never wants to leave the dark house(except to go to his Mom and Dad’s) We rarely see each other, we don’t talk anymore and everything I do seems to be wrong. I feel I am already doing what go has called me to do in terms of occupation and physical activity but I feel the call to be married and have children. I thought this man and I would be a great family, but I don’t deserve to be second or third in his life…
I want a man who loves me like Christ loves the church. The only one who has done that so far is my Dad…LOL!

It’s been 3.5 years and in the words of Beyonce “if you like it then you should a put a ring on it!” We’ll see I guess…
Thanks for reading. I have been very sad about this for a few months…
