The instant I realized she would choose herself over God and those around her.

Oh no, quite the opposite. I thought it a good play on words, even if accidental. 😉

JillyAnn:
I was married to a man who was thoughtful and kind. He isn’t baptized. At first we didn’t want children. As I grew back into being Catholic he had no interest. I flip flopped on the children decision and it was important to raise them in a Catholic family. In addition, someone earlier talked about not wanting to have his kids…I ditto that sentiment. Unfortunately, for us, that ended in divorce…that was a few years ago.

Currently, I am emotionally involved with a man who has become increasingly dedicated to his work. He leaves at 630 AM and comes homes most days after midnight. He sleeps most of the weekend and never wants to leave the dark house(except to go to his Mom and Dad’s) We rarely see each other, we don’t talk anymore and everything I do seems to be wrong. I feel I am already doing what go has called me to do in terms of occupation and physical activity but I feel the call to be married and have children. I thought this man and I would be a great family, but I don’t deserve to be second or third in his life…
I want a man who loves me like Christ loves the church. The only one who has done that so far is my Dad…LOL!

It’s been 3.5 years and in the words of Beyonce “if you like it then you should a put a ring on it!” We’ll see I guess…
Thanks for reading. I have been very sad about this for a few months…
You’ve been through the ringer and no mistake. :console: If a man (woman for our male friends) doesn’t make you part of his life you are much better off without him. :yup: Don’t despair, God knows your heart and your needs. Hang in there. You have my prayers.

I could probably live with that. Some time near the end of law school I realised I didn’t have to be smarter than everybody I talked to. Or maybe it was after experiencing burnout within one year following graduation. 😛
I contend that no matter who you marry, you have to be ready for the day to come when you look across the breakfast table and wonder how on earth you could have ever married someone so obtuse and unreasonable. There will also come a day when this person will have the deciding vote in your life. There will be a day when you will give in and do it his/her way. You have to be willing to live with that, and when the decision turns out to be a poor one, you say, “We decided. *We’ll *live with it”, instead of “I told you so!” That is what marriage is all about.

Marry someone whose wisdom you respect, even if you don’t think her SAT score could match yours. Marry someone who admires your judgment but realizes you are capable of making a bad decision, and can accept that. You will live to thank yourself, many times over.

Although it wasn’t a real life relationship (but a long-distance one), I knew he was not for me when he didn’t respect my catholic beliefs. He was like “What am I suppose to do? Is either that (for him to masturbate) or I go get a girl.” I made my decision to cut it. I couldn’t betray God.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

This is fantastic advice. Thank you for sharing it! … can I share it on my facebook (making sure to credit you if you’d like and/or making it clear it’s not my advice if you’d prefer your screenname not be mentioned?).

yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!!!

Well halfway home, he pulled over into a deserted street.

“Excuse me, he said and got out of the car.”

To my shock and horror, he had pulled over to urinate.

Dumbfounded I watched the yellow stream make its way down the concrete.

So that was that.
I had something similar happen, except with a girl I was interested in. I was driving and we were in a very bad part of town. However, we were within minutes of where we were headed and in sight of a gas station and a couple fast food restaurants, all of which likely could have attended to her needs. She told me to pull over, quick, without saying why, then stepped just inside an alley and took care of her business in full view of me and anyone else who would have passed (for the record, she was sober, not that that would have made any difference). We stayed friends after that, but any hopes of anything further ended right then.

WHAT?

I am baffled by this story…

I’m glad you liked it! You can quote me as “Anonymous”

Della,
Thank you for your kind words and support. LOL! My priest said the same thing. Jesus loves you, God loves you…he reminds me…Father is good at reminding me that I am a good person, have lots to share and am loved by God…I know He has another plan for me. At this point I am waiting for HIM to show me the way. 🙂

Easterjoy,
Great advice… thanks!!

Peace,
JA

I knew he was NOT for me when…

Various males, various reasons:
  • he used bad grammar.
  • he couldn’t spell.
  • he let me manipulate him and walk over him like a doormat.
  • all he wanted to do was smoke pot.
  • he threw litter out the car window!
  • he drove recklessly.
  • he knew or understood nothing about what was going on in the world.
  • I realized my will was stronger than his.
  • he didn’t respect me.
  • he wasn’t as smart as I was.
  • he had no intelligent conversation.
I realized as a teenager that I couldn’t be with someone I couldn’t respect, that I had to be with someone as least as smart as I was and who wouldn’t let me use him.

I’ve been happily married for almost 40 years to a good man. We have grown spiritually and become better human beings. Our priest says that marriage is good for you because it’s a way that God makes sure you don’t get your way all the time.

WHAT?

I am baffled by this story…
TrueLight relayed a story about knowing that a guy wasn’t for her because he pulled over to urinate on the side of the road in the middle of their first date. Similarly, I had a female friend I was starting to take an interest in. We were out one night on the way to a party. To get there we had to drive through a very nasty portion of town. This wasn’t an area you would normally want to get out of your car in, especially at night on the weekend. She never said a word to me about needing to relieve herself. Nevertheless, we were less than 10 minutes from our destination, and also in clear view of several places that likely had restrooms open to the public. She suddenly and urgently told me to pull over, and when I asked why she said, “Just pull over!” I pulled over and she jumped out of the car, ran just inside the alley I’d happened to stop by, squatted down against the wall, hiked up her skirt and urinated right there. This was in full view of me and anyone else who would have driven or walked past. As I pointed out, she was stone cold sober at the time (as was I). When she was done she got back in the car and acted as though nothing had happened. I was as dumbfounded as a person could be, I suppose, and couldn’t even come up with a way to ask her why the heck she’d done what she just did. I could barely even look at her the rest of the night. We stayed friends after that (are still in touch, actually), although I no longer considered her someone I’d ever ask out.

this explains my husband and myself. (im not idiot in my defense lol)
but he can out due me in many subjects. He is incredibly intelligent (if it helps to understand a little more: hes getting an engineering degree and im getting a nursing degree).
BUT he respects me,takes my thoughts into consideration, and some things in our life are left up to me and some are left up to him.
we make a good match.
Our electronics break, and he fixes them.
Some one gets hurt or sick, and i look at the situation and decided the best plan of action
:p:D

That will last a lot longer than a day!!!

…When he told me his car cost more than my parent’s house. Twenty years later and I still can’t believe a grown man could say something so stupidly offensive.
