Almost anything can be sinful.

On the other hand, there are some things that are, of their very nature, always sinful.

Pornography is one of these things.

Viewing pronography is a mortal sin.

Have all men seen porn? Problably.

Do all men watch porn? No.

Does the man who struggles with pornography need a bigger Jesus than he who doesn’t?

No it is not. It is grave matter.

It is only mortal if the other two conditions are met: full knowledge and full consent.

There are mitigating factors that can reduce culpability.

I agree with this post. I think that seems reasonable. I have viewed porn before with my husband…years ago, when we were first married. It was something we just ‘‘did,’’ as fun…or whatever. It wasn’t harmful at the time, but let me tell you, and I’m a woman saying this…those images are very damaging to one’s mind. They taint the gift of sex that God gave to us. If you are viewing porn on a regular basis, please, I ask you to stop so you can restore your mind to a healthy viewing of sexuality…I was a virgin, and rather innocent when I married, so if it could happen to me, it can happen to others. My husband and I have not viewed that junk in ages. But, I will STILL say…those images pop up every now and again, and it’s like…ugh, I don’t want to think this!!! I don’t dwell on them, but I’m here to say, this is why porn is so damaging. It just seeps into one’s mind like a cancer, spreads and takes over. Please don’t think it is ‘‘just nothing,’’ it’s definitely a tool of the devil. 😦 Just my two cents!
You are dead on, it is like a virus. And it is deffinitely not as fun & innocent as many people seem to think these days.

As guy and only speaking for personal experience, I Do sometime watch porn but I never do when I’m involved with a romatic intrest. Men in gereral want a woman to be three things 1)they want a woman bare foot and pregnant in the kitchen 2) they want a virgin in public and 3) they want a whore in the bedroom. That is just the way guys think whether they admit it or not. That is not to say they do not love they do they just want a woman to behave a certain way, to one degree or another.
Why would men view women this way these days? It is tied in directly to our out of control sexual culture. Women are portrayed as sex objects throughout our culture. And a lot of men & women have bought into this culture. As a father of a 15 year old daughter, I see how young women these days are flooded with an immoral way of living & dressing. And the young men treat these young women with no repsect along with looking out for themselves. They might be nice guys, but our culture has them wired to look at women as an ends to a mean.

That is why the devil is so cunning, he has lead those to believe that his is "fun and innocent, oh the lies and deceptions. “The devil’s greatest trick was to convince the world that he does not exist.” But if you cannot see the devil’s hand in pornography then you are sadly misguided. I hear all the talk from “secularists” about sex and pornography and it has become a joke, it has become second nature. I overheard someone talking about a TV show on HBO last night and she said “it is risque and suspenseful, naughty, just the way I like it” So Sad!!

I wish I could find a decent guy, but I have to take what I can get. I’m not the prettiest, so I have to take any guy who will have me. I’ll be happy if he has a pulse. If I were more valuable in the dating world, I could have higher standards. I’m not in the place to reject anyone.
I used to feel this way, well not “happy if he has a pulse”, but I felt unworthy. I was wrong, of course. We are all worthy. As long as one thinks they aren’t ‘enough’ to attract a good man, they never will. If you are looking at your value as physical beauty, than you are searching for men with a value system not in line with God’s.

Wow that was a different life that was! A sad, lonely time. I finally got frustrated with the whole dating thing, everyone wondering if we’d slept together after the first date, or why I wouldn’t. Liike celibacy is from the dark ages or something!

After years of crying to God about why I’m alone, please send me a husband, etc. I told Him, "look, I quit 'cause when I pick men it always goes badly (my first husband was addicted to porn). So, God, you not only have to pick him for me, but you’ll have to put him in front of me and hit me over the head! I took a 6 month break from dating that ended up being two years and very content and fulfilling ones at that. My time was spent facilitating scripture study, volunteering, sponsoring, Patricians, etc. During that time, I changed. I gradually became a woman who was valued and treasured by me, had so much more to offer a spouse and walked more closely with God. God’s joy brings inner beauty that good men respond to. I look back at photos of me, and realized something; first, I wasn’t as unattractive as I’d thought and second, I was far more beautiful during my journey of faith than I had ever been before. My experience is this, if I take good care of me, do what God wills, and let God take care of the rest… miracles and wonders happen.

Eating cheesecake is not a sin (good thing 'cause my husband and I love little wine and cheesecakes dates), watching porn is a serious sin, there’s simply no comparison. I hope that you are able to find true love and respect and joy, through God’s plans for you.

In terms of porn, my first husband was a porn addict, drank and smoked pot. I had to work with social services for years to protect my child from being alone with her father. Of all the addictions, pornography addiction is increasing at must fast rate than any other addiction. It is also a gateway addiction, leading to sex addictions. Not all become addicts. Many can drink, for example, but some become alcoholic. The difference is that drinking doesn’t debase the human beings involved, porn does. My question would be this, “Is this what I want in a father for my daughter or son?”.

JMHO I hope that you can see the inner beauty that you have and understand that you are worthy and precious and beautiful, as God made you. I pray that you find a man who treats as such.

Peace.

I stand corrected.

Very good post! Thanks for sharing. I am glad to hear that you had the patience to wait for God’s plan for you. I like the directness with God. How did you meet your husband? Oh and what wine goes good with cheesecake?

I have been married for 5 yrs, my husband and I got married outside the church and I am now returning to my faith. He is not catholic and has no intentions of ever becoming one, which is ok. He has watched porn since he was 13. We have had several conversations about this and how it makes me feel as a woman. He claims he has stopped the past 2-3 months because I threatened our marriage if it didn’t stop. He doesn’t understand though why I feel the way I do and claims that all men do it and its natural!! Is is true?? I am especially looking for male (name removed by moderator)ut here.
All men do not look at porn wether on the internet or in magazines etc. I do not and I speak with my sons about how demeaning and disrespectful it is to women and themselves and encourage them to respect themselves and women in general. Sorry for your situation.

I have seen many posts about people who say that they do not look at porn. That’s great! If I am reading into your actual question a bit, and getting to the heart of it, what it seems like you need to know isn’t which guys do or don’t struggle with it. It seems like it is more important for you to hear that your husband’s problem is not unique. I am here to tell you as someone who has struggled with this in the past, that your husband is absolutely NOT unique. This is very common, however, not ‘all’ men actively watch porn, as many have been quick to point out about themselves.

Well the “its Fine” part is only because we have discussed the issue of becoming Catholic before and its completely out of the question for him. We are struggling in our marriage quite a bit right now, religion being one of the big topics. I know that while he still has a desire to watch porn he has promised me that he has not in the past 2-3 mths. Unfortunately, we already have a child, which is making this issue even harder for me because I don’t want porn to become a part of his life either.
Good for you for trying to resolve this, for being compassionate and understanding and, especially, for considering your child’s well-being. It is so hard being married to someone who doesn’t share your beliefs. My husband is agnostic and even though he is more saint-like than most people, those values can be hard to reconcile sometimes. My heart goes out to you. It must be hard.

Technically he is right about you being responsible for your own self-esteem. He may not realize that expecting more of your husband would likely increase your self-esteem, not lessen it.

There is a site called Healing for Wives Who’ve Been Hurt From Adultery or Porn Addiction created by a man who struggled with this. I am not saying your husband is an addict, just providing a resourse to help you understand how it affects you and, perhaps give your husband a source outside yourself. There is a letter written by a woman to her husband about how his actions affected her. It is at blazingglory. I’m not suggesting an ultimatum here, nor that your husband is an addict. There is some good information here and suggestions. Have you clarified why you are so upset by his actions? Sometimes we know something’s upsetting, but don’t delve deeper. It’s easier to explain if we take time to sort out specific reasons, pray about them, and then we can talk more honestly. Ask God for the words, if you decide to do this. Most people agree, porn use is a symptom of bigger relationship issues … his issues.

Gather information about how porn affects everyone involved. There is so much information available about how porn adversely affects our teens. This could be used, at least, to come to an agreement about what your child should or should not be exposed to. You may not be able to have a say in what your husband does, you sure as heck have a say in what your child is exposed to. Maybe you can at least get those boundaries clear.

If married to someone who watches porn, the question before me would be, “How can I discern what God wants of me in this situation?” and focus on finding an honest, loving way to make my feelings and concerns known, and praying for my husband’s soul. Many saints were married to non-Catholics. Look to their lives for guidance in being married to someone outside your faith. Remember God loves your husband as perfectly as He loves you and he wants whats best for both of you. Pray to St. Monica, who begged feverently for her sons soul during his life. Pray for St. Augustine to guide your husband. May you find find a way to be at peace with your marriage and God;s will for them, while finding the words to lovingly share her needs and desires.

My last suggestion would be this … have you considered Retrouvaille? I know couples personally, who dealt with this exact issue in the Retrouvaille program. No one is turned away due to money issues and there can be a tremendous amount of healing from their weekends. Just something to consider. My husband and I went through it. He is agnostic and we have a blended family, so there were many issues to deal with. Incidentally one does not need religion to understand how porn adversely affects everyone involved.

I know, full of advice today. I am praying, though, too.

May all those who are searching, learn to raise the bar and focus on God to guide them in all things. We are all treasured children of God, beautifully and wonderfully made and must love ourselves first, in order for others to love us. Love begets love.

May you find peace and healing in the midst of all this and in your marriage, May you feel God’s love, support and guidance to be the wife and mother that you are meant to and trust that God loves both you and your husband perfectly.

Pinot Noir (or other red) + cheesecake + fragrant candle + Michael O’Brien = mini date 👍
OR
Gewürztraminer + Havarti + crackers + green grapes + fragrant candle + Michael O’Brien = mini date

We met at work. He was divorced and had nothing to do over the 4th of July, so I invited him to a block party just to be nice. NEVER occurred to me to be interested. He’s quite handsome. Later, it was dinner with a group of friends to give him a chance to get out a meet people. We would get coffee, sharing concerns over our respective kids. We became friends. Coworkers kept winking and saying, “Yeah you’re just friends”, “Right!”. We finally clued in and starting thinking about whether there was actually something there. One night we had gone for a walk together after dinner with a group of people, his hand hit mine and I (mistakenly) thought he was trying to hold my hand, so I kind of grabbed it. 😊 He thought I was a little bit forward, I think. I say we ‘accidentally’ started dating. lol! Even after realizing there were feelings there we each gave it a little thought and asked ourselves, “Is this what I really want?”. We even broke up for a while, because he needed some space.

The point here is that it started with love. I focused on my love for God and saw God has my co-parent. It was like this for years. I then, showed my love of God in helping others in their faith journey and in kindness to another person with no expectation and that love came back tenfold.

How this applies to the OP I’m not sure, except that we do have to be strong in knowing our own needs and desires and find a way to communicate them. Even with romance above, we had to go through Retrouvaille this past year. No marriage is perfect and we do have to accept faults in our spouse. It gave us a way to deal with a) expressing our opinions honestly and with love and b) dealing with conflict. We have a responsibility to ourselves and our children to define what we’re willing to do and not willing to do. These two are so hard to balance! It’s very hard when the appearance is that the entire world is ‘doing it’ and we’re left to feel like an outcast or rejected. This is where looking at the lives of the saints can sometimes be helpful. When I think of St. Dymphna, for example, I find courage.

Porn is adultery in a person’s heart (Sermon on the Mount). It’s also a misuse of the female breast and means some women are at danger if they breast feed and choose not to breastfeed due to modesty reasons. Apparently smaller breasts are more natural, like Mary, and breasts have evolved larger because of contraception and also prostitution. Breastfeeding shrinks women’s breasts.

I’ve been reading this thread and I just wanted to say

*to all the men who have posted on here who say they do not currently watch porn…

YOU are an inspiration!!! (to me a woman)

It is so nice to read about godly men, besides the very few I know, that do not watch porn!!

Being in my mid 20’s, it is so very ATTRACTIVE to me to know that some men do not watch pornography!! I’m so excited right now.

Keep up the fight!! and thank you for being an inspiration.

What on EARTH does this crazy talk have to do with the topic?

translator to the rescue!
I think they were calling all big chested women prostitutes (so not true, I’m big chested naturally myself, and I never had sex for money), and most men like big breasts, so they watch porn to see them? But Mary has small breasts (I don’t stare at her breasts, but most of the pictures show her as pretty curvy), so small breasts = holy, big breasts= big fiery pit for you.

translation done. Results may vary, and the translator is on diet pills nd no food, so it might not be complete.

I don’t think a translator is the kind of professional the person who posted this needs. .😉

I don’t think ANYONE knows what size breasts the Blessed Virgin had. Depictions we see are in the imaginations of the artists depicting her. We haven’t a clue what she actually looked like.

It’s even weird to even think of this topic. Totally immaterial to our faith.

Although one of my favorite depictions of her is Roberto Feruzzi’s Madonnina (which wasn’t apparently originally intended to be a painting of the Blessed Virgin, but came to be seen as such): Madonnina

I don’t know why, but I find this painting hauntingly beautiful. A nice antidote to the topic of this thread. Sorry for the drift!
