Now I see local people claiming that crime has skyrocketed as a result. This is nonsense because the police haven’t been doing anything different with undocumented people and it’s actually been steadily decreasing.
Not saying they aren’t being hyperbolic but just the public perception about enforcement can change whether a location attracts or repulses a certain element.

Example - illegals were hopping the boarder to Canada based on the perception Trudeau had opened a big welcome mat and Trump was cracking down. In fact neither had really made any changes to their enforcement yet the perception was moving thousands of illegals.

So you think illegals convicted of drunken driving should be embraced with open arms, they deserve to stay?

I don’t know what you mean by “embraced with open arms” but I think it depends on the risk they pose to society and if it would split up a family. If they are a repeat offender or actually hurt someone than I think it may be worth while to deport them. It’s also good to keep in mind the cost of deporting a person. According to this article it’s between $12,500 to $23,480. That’s not a trivial amount of money

Even if it makes sense to deport all undocumented immigrants with drunk driving convictions, how about all of those that don’t have a criminal record?

ETA: How do you feel about ICE agents struggling to cover for Trump’s lies?

Deporting All Of America’s Illegal Immigrants Would Cost A Whopping $285 Billion
A year ago, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deputy director Kumar Kibble told Congress it costs about $12,500 to deport an undocumented immigrant.

However, a 2010 report by Center for American Progress and Rob Paral and Associates took a close look at all the budget appropriations for ICE and broke down the costs per person for each one of the four stages of deportation process: apprehension, detention, legal proceeding and transportation. The whopping cost of deportation per person that they came up with is $23,480.

If legal immigrants have to leave the country when their visa expires, even if they have Americans living in their house, why shouldn’t illegals have to leave?

I personally believe we should be working towards open boarders with Mexico and Canada (a sort of American/Mexican/Canadian union) so I don’t think either should have to leave. If they have roots and family here, contribute to society, and don’t have a conviction for a serious crime I don’t see why they should have to leave.

I was explicit in what I meant, do you think they deserve to stay.

Your other article is blatant hyperbole, not going to bother critiquing beyond the ask about drunk drivers.
