Uhm, in that scenario the ID tells nothing about whether or not funds are available. But okay.

I was that person once years ago. With the exception of cash advance in the USA a PIN on a credit card is still a foreign concept. The USA has a poor system of fraud prevention for cards and depending on what survey you look at it ranks first or second in credit card fraud.
Trump is too stupid to know that you don’t need an ID to buy groceries
I didnt get the impression he is stupid. But he does whether intentional or not say things that are best not taken as clear unambiguous representations of truth. Thankfully though there are people more than willing to provide translations to more widely understood less idiomatic dialects of English.
If you don’t drive you normally don’t have a license. If you can’t drive for economic reasons, you don’t have a license. You need to go and get another form of ID. It’s a hardship to do so for some.
In many places once the voter I’d laws were made more strict access to facilities to get a license also went down. Some closed, some radically reduced hours. The requirements for evidence of ID went up. When I renewed my license and looked at the new requirements I noticed a person of lower income in a house or apartment would have a harder time getting one. My wife started processing more legal name changes because some variations in names are now enough to prevent someone from voting; Mike Johnston at 123 Main street isnt accepted as Micheal Johnston of 123 Main street any more.

Where I am golf carts are a regular u.i lar means of transport. There are roads for cars and paths for cars. For many retired people carts are a primary means of getting around. Licenses are not needed to drive them.

Well, obviously, he meant that you may need a photo ID to buy groceries under the SNAP program
Speaking for Illinois Chicagoland and cashiering, that’s not my experience. (It could for other parts if the country, but not my area.)
Some states do require it.

And even if they don’t require a photo ID for each transaction, don’t these people have to show some kind of photo ID to qualify for the benefits in the first place?

If they do, then it can’t be that burdensome for the to show IDs for voting.

Was at a dollar store and they used a special marker to scrawl a line on a $20 bill … cash … [why, I asked] … forged currency … they said.

I love bananas!

It’s a pity I lost my banana buying photo Id …

And a voter ID will remove all fraud such as voting twice, etc.?

I worked at what had been a nation wide well known retailer when I was in high school. We had some people that didn’t want to sign the digital signature pad. They didn’t want their signature stored electronically. When that happened we let them sign a paper copy. The paper copies were sent off to be scanned and stored along side the electronic copies.

Spin all you like, he said what he said.
The “spin” is the attempt to convince “know-nothing” millennials that the story is that Trump and his supporters are dumb because Trump is of an age where to buy groceries, you typically did have to show ID because you didn’t have electronic payment and you either had to pay in cash, which didn’t require an ID, or, if you’re buying a week or two’s worth of groceries, you wrote a check and had to present an ID, and that’s not an age that millenials can relate to, so it must be stupid, rather than the issue Trump was talking about which is vote integrity.

Are you arguing that because it won’t eliminate all vote fraud that it shouldn’t be implemented?

I’ve got another question. Why are the signs on the highway so small? 😉

No. I actually mean that the high way signs in New Jersey are smaller.

I do have glasses. I see fine in my own state.

I think this is really a good example of #fakenews. By focusing on the phony story that “Trump is too stupid to know that you don’t need an ID to buy groceries”, they can ignore the point he was making. His point was that voting is more important to our democratic form of government than buying beer or cigarettes, or opening a bank or credit account, or getting on an airplane, but yet we require much more legal scrutiny to do any of those things than we do to allow someone to vote and it’s a problem.
I kind of look at it like Obama saying their were 57 states. Both were stupid things to say and red meat for their opponents. Such is the nature of politics.

But when Obama made a gaffe, was there such passion to say: it wasn’t a gaffe, because if you consider this and that and realize that he was really right, or directionally correct, of just embellishing. That is the part that is frightful: the fans just can;t seem to say: oops.

My dog has an Id to get bones, worn around the neck and flashed to the butcher…also very handy id when running from the dog catcher, who no doubt wants the hard won bone

The only time I have to show my ID when paying with my card is at the casino. I still have checks as my children need lunch money

My local Rite Aid has the best prices for beer in the neighborhood. I buy a 12-pack about once a week.

I always have to show ID. Also when I buy nicotine gum (to which I am hopelessly addicted, but it beats smoking).

Thing is, I’m 58 years old. Nobody could possibly think I’m underage. And yet, every time, I have to show ID.

It’s mildly annoying.
