No, that would be incorrect. The convention in Latin is that all nouns referring to male persons are of masculine gender, and all nouns referring to female persons were of female gender. If someone were to write an story about a fictional female pope and decided to use the word “pappa” for her, “pappa” would necessarily be of feminine gender and would be accompanied by modifiers with feminine ending.

During the middle ages, there were indeed a popular series of stories written about a fictional female pope, written in Latin.

Again, I think you may be seriously confused about what grammatical gender means.
 
I understand your point and I agree. The only reality is that when you wrote the Pope you had capitals on so I assume you are referring to existing Use of the word Pope and not some female pope that has never existed and certainly not used in an official way. So you are not wrong as a purist for what you said just in this previous but you are misleading people in a huge practical way. And you were incorrect in your original post.
My point that you are confusing declension and gender still stands.
And my point that you are misleading readers of your post is still valid.
The Latin word for Pope declines like a first declension noun full stop. It is grammatically incorrect to say it declines like a feminine noun.

Can someone elaborate on this point further?

I thought I read someplace that the Pope could technically be any Catholic the Conclave chooses and that the selected person would be subsequently ordained. I can’t find where I thought I’d read it. Thank you!

Could technically be any MAN the conclave chose, but would have to be ordained before they would actually be Pope.
 
Tom isn’t Catholic. He is still trying to decide if he will convert or not…

Any baptised male…then ordained as Bishop to be made Pope.
 
IF we had a female pope, what would her title be? I don’t know about her title, but that church who installed her would cease to be the “One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church” that I was baptized in. Undoubtedly, there would assuredly be a major rupture, a split…and rightfully so!

…and therefore would have to be eligible for ordination, such as being capable of and willing to give consent, being mentally competent, and so on, so in reality not every baptised male is eligible.
 
Has anyone suggested the title “imposter” yet? Or “Antichrist” perhaps?

As far as I know, those titles are not restricted to males, are they?

They have to be ordained in order to actually take office. Only men are able to be ordained. Unlike many other impediments (such as marriage), the limitation to men is divine law that the church is powerless to change.

Attempting to ordain a women…the best way I can explain it is it would be like attempting to marry a man who is already married. You could perform the entire marriage ceremony, and people might think the man was married to his new bride, but in reality no actual marriage would take place. Because only single people can be married.
