IF we had a female Pope, what would her title be?

All ideas must be discussed. If we don’t discuss them, that means we are scared of their potential truth.

That which is heresy is more easily vanquished in plain view than in hidden alleys. Or, if you like, Goblins don’t survive the sun.

Are you trying to discuss the truth or win an argument. This thread isn’t about the right or wrong of a female pope, it’s about what her pope name would be. That is not a Catholic forums question because the question isn’t Catholic. As John Paul II said the church does not have the right to ordain woman. Period! Discussion is finished.

Win an argument? I think I’ve only posted once on this thread.

Actually I think the anglicised pronunciation (Pope) of the original Greek (and still Italian) “papa” (which rolls off the tongue) is pretty harsh also. Its just that we are used to it that’s all I suggest.

Like “modern art”, cubism and all that stuff we are also meant to like when in fact its awful.

I am sure we would get just as used to mome (“mowm” is already close to the way the British pronounce the queen’s “marm”). Maybe after two or three Mome’s first though.

We can’t have a female Pope, because that would be like saying we could have a female Bishop which we know can’t happen.

You are off topic.
This topic assumes the impossible - just ride with it and enjoy yourself. We are.

Humour resides in contemplating contradictories.
Perhaps you have none?

I know it is highly unlikely to have a female Bishop of Rome, but times may change.
It is impossible. In order to receive Holy Orders, one must be genetically male. Valid form, matter and intent.

Peter II. Because it would be “game over.”

How about Petra to close the game?
No…should be Mrs Petra. More formal…

I’m utterly amazed at the overly-seriousness of many of the comments. Obviously we cannot have a female Pope! Hence why the OP explicitly states with capital letters: ‘IF’! Do we really need a sarcasm/satire section on CAF? 😃

It’s the kind of question you ask if you are a fiction writer, in maybe urban fantasy or alternative history. The What IF.

Sometimes toying with three impossible things before breakfast expands your understanding of the real world.

The term “Pope” comes from Papa/Father, so IF we had a female Pope, would she still be a “Pope” or would she be called something else derived from a word meaning Mother.

I know it is highly unlikely to have a female Bishop of Rome, but times may change.
It is not unlikely. It is impossible. There is no such thing as times might change when it comes to this issue. If you are Catholic then you are badly informed on this matter.

It kind sounds french, but I am not a linguistics expert.

I’m not Catholic. And the question is mostly a fictitious hypothesis rather than an actual “We might someday have a woman as head of the RCC.”
