I'm getting tired of hearing from Protestants that we worship Mary and the saints!

You clearly do not understand English. GRAVEN means carved; sculptured. Whether you have BELLS or whatever is not the issue. Do you have sculptured image of someone in your cathedral? If you have, you have violated the commandment.
The next statement is the NEXT verse. The 2 statements have 2 distinct meanings.
1 - No graven image (verse 4)
2 - No bowing down. (verse 5)
It is NOT…do not bow down to (any) graven images. If it was, it would have been phrased thus. And God would be saying if others built the graven images, don’t bow down to them. BUT…God is saying…DO NOT BUILD THESE GRAVEN IMAGES…YOURSELF!..and then NOT to bow down to them.
If your mother tells you ‘pixie, do not play outside with those filthy kids. You must not be their friend’.
DO YOU then tell your mother…so I cannot be their friend but I can play with them…Riiiight???..WRONG! You are not even to play with them.
Again, it shows us there is tremendous difficulty in holding onto the truth.

I understand a lot more then I did before I started looking into the Catholic faith.
**The more I understand the less I know and vice versa. Did you know that there are even protestants that call themselves Catholic? And they “pretend”, by omission, to be part of the RCC? When talking to a “Catholic” always ask “Who is the “Earthly Leader” of your Church. If it isn’t “THE POPE” they are not really Catholics as understood by most people. As Christians we all have Jesus as the head of our churches. The Pope is the physical leader of the BODY OF CHRIST! **
And yes I still say “sounds like they worship Mary”. Because I am not able to make the distinction between putting Jesus first and someone praying to Mary. **Short question: Explained later: If you Kiss your Mother, are you putting her before Jesus? Just think about that, I will explain further!**If a person prays to anyone but Jesus, they are not putting Jesus first. Jesus said,“I am the way the truth and the life.” He didn’t say ,“I am one of the ways and the truth and the life.”

Many “catholics” spent their entire lives just pondering just the thing you asked. “Holy” monks discussed, reviewed, wrote, and explained these things many times over the centuries. Some protestant read in the Bible (Whoever’s “version”) “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). and said HA! You can’ t pray to saints or Mary! We heard that and said HA! We will do whatever we want go play with your god and leave us alone!
Solo scriptura would be a hard faith for me to believe in (Yea, I personally think of it as a “religion” of its own) They put words in Jesus’ mouth to make Him say what they desire to be true. Jesus said “except through me” He did not say “pray only to me?” Do you understand, Not agree, but do you understand what I am saying?
Was Jesus “perhaps” saying that his Church (The RCC) “The Body of Christ” was the only way people could come to the Father? The “me” being his” Body " that He would leave on Earth?
Problem is without further information was provided, noone could really know except for one Blessing from God. Thank God for the RCC!We know because Jesus established our church as one of the ways to learn His father’s will for us as members of His body!
Reference Mary. I think the problem is in your use of the word “worship” rather than anything else. May I explore this with you?
Do you worship your Mother?
Do you worship your Wife? (if married)
Do you worship any one but the lord your God?
Is it wrong to “Love and respect” your Mother?
Is it wrong to “Love and respect” your Wife?
Is it wrong to “Love and respect” the Mother of your God?
Jesus himself said: “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.This is the first and greatest commandment. You should love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matt: 37-39. So Jesus wants us to LOVE Agree? Would it be wrong to ask your mother “Mom when you die and go to Heaven, will you ask God to forgive me my sins?” Is ti wrong to ask anyone to “Pray” for you?

It isn’t GOD it is “only” a book from which many false things have been taught and explained. I bet God is really pissed at some of the “super” preachers and He can’t wait to tell them all to “Go T Hell”! unfortunally, many of their followers will have to follow them. Those are the protestants I pray for!

I do try to understand Protestants. In fact, I appreciate them very much indeed because they forced me to stretch my mind to look deeper into the Faith. They are also the most awesome converts.
I do understand what you are saying about “praying to Mary”. We have come to use the word “pray” rather loosely or maybe we do not understand the meaning of the word. With usage words tend to change their meaning - or we change the meaning of words. Prayer is speaking to God - beseeching Him, praising Him, Asking Him, Talking to Him, Adoring Him. Prayer should be a reserved word.
However, we talk to the Saints and to Mary asking them to pray for us. So we have “prayers” through which we are asking for prayer. I have never asked Mary to do anything for me or to give me anything - I always ask her to pray for me, to use her influence with the Lord, with her Son. You do the same I am sure in a way when you ask your friends to pray for you. Since we are asking “someone” whom we believe to be close to God in Heaven, we say a little “prayer” but it certainly not worship. That is for God alone.
I also believe in the messages she has given to certain individuals. You will notice that in all of them she is pointing to Jesus. She is like a Mother to us - she IS our heavenly Mother and we love her. As for the Saints we look at their lives and they are role models. Their example is important to us.

- Jesus says that the Holy GHOST will teach us all things that we need to know, so what need is there for any POPE??? Basically, we don’t need the Pope right?
- In other words, this Holy Ghost that teaches everything that we need to know is living in US. So, do we STILL need anybody to intercede for us when we already have God living inside us???
Remember, the Holy Ghost IS GOD.

When Jesus told Peter that “You are Peter and upon this rock I shall build my Church” he also set up all the resources for Peter to carry out his instructions. Peter passed down this power given him because the Church is for all ages.
So we have the Church, the Pope, Scripture, the Sacrements, and a ton of things to assist us and ALL these things are part of what the Holy Spirit gifts us with.

“Pray” simply means “ask.” We ask other people for things all the time, and even show them honor appropriate to a fellow human. None of that takes away from Jesus. Why is it different if the fellow human is in Heaven?
Look at the Hail Mary again.
The first part that praises Mary does so in completely Biblical phrases – the greeting of Gabriel, followed by the inspired exclamation of Elizabeth (with the names “Mary” and “Jesus” added for clarity). Given the context of those passages in the Bible, God clearly authorized those particular honors for Mary – Gabriel would have said what he was commanded to say by God, and Elizabeth is directly said to have been under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit when she spoke.
In the second part of the prayer, the only thing we actually ask Mary is to pray for us to God. We do not ask her to do anything of her own power, only the same thing we would ask any fellow Christian to do.
Anyone trying to use Mary as “another way” to the Father or to salvation is bound to be grossly disappointed (and quite likely damned for blasphemy).
The point is not to “go through” Mary in place of Jesus, but to ask her to join her prayers with ours, so that we are both praying to God through Jesus. Again, it’s not that different from any Christian prayer request or prayer chain, except that we’ve got all the Christians who’ve ever lived ready and waiting to join in with their prayers.
I’ve been a Protestant, so I’d like to think I do. Please forgive those of us who grow unjustly impatient with you; there are a few on these forums who are not honestly interested in learning more, and sadly they lead off with some of the same questions that the honest seekers have.

Paul was talking to the Corinthians and it was about immorality and he reminded them that their bodies were the temple of the Holy Spirit. You have to read this in context.
We in the Catholic Church believe in the Sacraments. Jesus also said “whose sins you shall forgive they are forgiven…” We go to the Sacrament of reconciliation to confess our sins and obtain absolution. We must try to constantly prepare ourselves to receive the Eucharist and to receive God’s grace. You surely do not believe that a big sinner has the Holy Spirit in him do you? We must believe and live our Faith in order to receive God’s graces. The Pope, the Church, the Sacraments etc etc and Mary are always needed by us - they can never be redundant as you say.

I believe that even St. Alphonsus explains his claim of Mary’s “omnipotence” in a way that should be acceptable to us all. (I wouldn’t use the word “omnipotent,” and I’m sure you wouldn’t either, but at least we can see what he was getting at.)
The idea is that Mary’s will is always aligned with God’s, just as is true of every other saint in Heaven. Whatever request she would make of God would already be His will to accomplish, and so of course He would do it. Effectively, God does everything Mary asks, and therefore, effectively, Mary can be called omnipotent in that all that she wishes is done. However, it’s not because she has power over God, but because she is perfectly conformed to God’s pre-existing will.
Again, I agree that “omnipotent” is an inaccurate and inflammatory word to use for that situation, but St. Alphonsus used a lot of poetic hyperbole in his book, so he probably chose it deliberately to be a bit shocking.

We do indeed all have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
However, we do not all receive the same gifts. Some teach, some prophesy, etc. Right?
In the Catholic view, the pope and bishops are specially endowed with the gift of teaching.
Mary is a glorified Christian in Heaven. She is not to be put in the place of God or positioned as some kind of obstacle between us and God … but like any other Christian we can ask her to pray with and for us to God, and God can use her as His agent when He chooses. In the OP’s case, it seems God used Mary to bring the OP back to belief, just as He might have used a door-to-door evangelist, a conveniently placed Gideon Bible, or a Christian neighbor.

Thank you for your kind words. I myself am a revert and am getting to know my faith. I have to say that I owe a huge debt to Protestants - they have helped me tremendously.
As for spelling. Sometimes they are actually typing errors - one is going fast and there is no time to check. But I do notice the grammar!!!&%$#@}? For instance some people don’t know the difference between their and there and the other day I even saw someone spell always allway’s!!$#@*& I told myself that perhaps they are foreigners! But I don’t care really - if the content is good that is what matters. There is a guy who I at first thought might be a Muslim disguised as a Christian but I can see the beauty of his faith shine and I absolutely love him. What if I am wrong?:ehh: :ehh: :hypno:
Seriously, I love these threads and we can learn an awful lot from people of different cultures and Faiths. I admire the moderators and their extreme patience. I wanted to give up on someone the other day and then I saw something beautiful that he posted.
