He very successfully points out the true poverty of mormon belief. All this talk about “burning in the bosom” , “knowing” that the BOM is “true”, all this stuff is just “pie in the sky” that basically boils down to very wishful thinking with absolutely no proof of any kind. One is certainly free to believe in fairy stories, but I hate the idea that someone is pinning their eternal salvation on such lies. There are different levels to the kingdom of God in Mormon mythology. To get into the highest level (the one where you get to actually be in the presence of Heavenly Father) one has to not only be a faithful Mormon, but he has to be married, to have paid all his tithes and offerings, and to have memorized a lot of ridiculous signs and tokens in LDS temples.

LaMar seems to be a rather tongue-in-cheek mormon(probably a rather healthy attitude) and PaulDupre recognizes that there is much humor in the foibles of mormonism as well. Once on a trip to SLC, I saw bottles of PayLayAle for sale in the mall opposite ZCMI, along with bottles of Polygamy Ale in the same store. Of course, I had to have some. It was quite tasty, although I had a strange desire to aquire multiple wives after I had drunk it.

thank you whyme. I don’t want to subscribe to this mag, though, my own Church testifies very admirably to the saving work of Jesus, as you know. i see no reason whatever to go to another church in search of Jesus, and by that I mean no disrespect for your church any more than I would disrepect any of the other hundreds of variation upon the christian theme. Each has something of value to give, but none can match the fullness of the Catholic/Universal Church. My original question though remains, as to why these four young mormons I know do not speak about Jesus. i suspect the reason lies in the particular teaching of the mormoon religion; i don’t know what it is yet, but i’ll keep thinking about this until I find out what it is, then I will raise the subject with these young people when the time is right.
Oh Please! That’s the faith of my fathers and all that (to steal a line from Slick Mitt). If I hated Mormonism or the LDS church I’d simply wander away and join the Episcopalians, as 100,000 Mormons do every year, and that’d be the end of it.

God’s laws do not change, but men’s laws sometimes interfere with practising God’s laws. There the righteous are taken to a state of happiness, a state of piece and rest called paradise, where they await the resurrection. The wicked go to a state of unhappiness. After the resurrection they are judged according to their works, and each is allotted a place of happiness or unhappiness depending on how their works have been. That is a short summary.
We believe that at the Second Coming of Christ Satan will be bound, and a general resurrection of all the righteous men and women will take place that have lived on earth until that time. Then they will reign with Christ on earth for a thousand years, together with all the saints who will already be alive on earth at that time. At the end of the thousand years Satan will be loosed to tempt mankind for the last time. After the final battle between the forces of good and evil, Satan and his crew will be eternally defeated and cast into their own place, and a general resurrection will take place of all the dead, both the wicked and the righteous, who will then be judged (and rewarded) according to their works.
