Thank you very much for your answer. What are services like in your church? What goes on there?
The easiest way is to go to one and find out. The phone book is your best friend.
And does a Mormon have to get rebaptized if he has already been baptized in many churches?
Yes.
If so, why?
Because we believe that Baptism is a sacrament that requires proper priesthood authority to be performed correctly, and the LDS Church is the only Church in the world today that possesses that priesthood authority.
Why do Mormons believe that drinking Tea or Coffee is wrong?
Because the Lord has revealed to us that they are not good for you to eat. Mormons on the whole enjoy better health and longevity than the national average.
Would they say dipping is bad (I know they say smoking is, but the reason I ask is because I am a dipper!!! :D)
Not sure what you mean by dipping. Please explain.
What is involved in Repentance?
Recognizing that you have done wrong, feeling godly sorrow for your sins, and determining that you will not repeat them again.
What is the gift of the Holy Spirit?
The same gift that was bestowed by the laying on of the hands of the Apostles in the New Testament. The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead (the Trinity) and is a personage of Spirit.
How would you know if you had recieved it?
You will know that you have received it when you will begin to feel His promptings.
Are you a person of authority in your church?
I am an Elder in the Church, which means that I can baptize and lay on hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, and perform other sacraments of the Church. We do not have paid or professional priesthood. Every worthy male member of the Church is ordained to the priesthood, and can perform these ordinances.
And is Heavy Metal Evil (I hope not, because I love it 😛 !!!)
I think it is, because I can’t stand it! 😃 But I guess you win on that one. As far as I know heavy metal has not been banned by the Church! 😦
Anyway, take care for now…
You are very welcome.

Dipping is where you take some snuff or chewing tobacco and put it in your mouth and enjoy the flavor. I switched to it because the group home where I live only has 6 smoke breaks a day with two cigarettes per break 😦 I feel a great deal of nervous tension most of the time, so that’s why I switched, so I could do it when I wanted to. But, oh well, whatever… Anyway, I wanted to ask you something, how would I go about quitting something as hard as quitting tobbacco? I’ve tried cold turkey, the patch, I’ve about chewed gum until the inside of my mouth is hurting, yet it does no good:shrug: Anyway, dude, if I like tried to visit your church, my mom would not pick me up from the group home where I live at. She was the one who got me “The God Makers” and she detests the Mormon church (Almost as much as my Dad detests Liberal politicians- oh well:( ) But, anyway, they are not Catholic either, but they actually went to Easter Vigil 2005 when I got confirmed. They probably would disown me if I became Mormon:confused: . I know alot of people are going to accuse me of being a Mormon troll, or something, but I’m not. But I know that the sciptures say "That day shall not come, unless a falling away occur first, and the man of sin is revealed, who exalts himself above all that is (and the Catholic church seems to fit the bill sometimes- but than again, I am reading some Malachi Martin- who is perhaps bitter at the church he once was part of [cf. “The decline and fall of the Roman church” and “The Final Conclave”] I know that alot of the Popes and Cardinals and church leaders led repugnant lives during the Middle Ages. Anyway, are you one of those young men who knock on doors and pass out your books? But, I have never met someone so sure of their faith as you are. I hope that you have a good day.

Tommy

P.S. How would I go about joining your church, considering I am living at a group home and my parents would kill me!!! What would you do in a situation like that?

Your question is addressed to Zerinus, but it seems he is silent about it. Let me throw my cent. Quitting smoking is a matter of decision. We simply have to make a decision. Turkey and patch or candies? They are artificial. What matters most is our decision. And our decision somehow is affected by our character. But our character is even subject to our decision. In the final analysis this should lead us to Jesus hanging on the cross.

Can you mention any one and provide us the link here in this thread?

The book I checked out at the Library is an EXCELLENT source for verifying the corruption of the papacy. It all started, according to the Jesuit author, with the mingling of church and state (i.e.Constantine) and ended with the disentigration of the vatican by the Italians during the 20th century. The name of the book is “The decline and fall of the Roman church” and the author is Malachi Martin. I was curious about it, so I read it, and I guess that’s how I got in this mess, being confused about my faith and what not.

Thanks for the reference! Unfortunately, hard copies of it is not everywhere. We are in the the internet. Therefore, it would do better justice if we could provide links through the internet for the perusal of all.

Man, I’m lucky if I can click my mouse to get somewhere:p !!! I don’t know much about computers. I taught myself BASIC, but things sure have changed since 1982 (People flying planes into buildings, and what not:( ) How would I go about doing that?

I personally don’t know much about computer and internet as well. But what I do is this. When I am in a certain website (the website where my reference exists), I simply would highlight the reference as it would appear in the browser (…)), that is, highlight the words after http//, then presss crtl and c on the keyboard, then go back to my composition (the reply), and there highlight a word, then click the icon that looks like a telescope above my composition. A little window would appear having the words __________. Put the cursor after // and then press ctrl and V. By that you would have established a link to your reference.

I hope this would help. Que est Cet knows about this better.

Take no notice of that. It is none of his business to tell anybody where to post and where not to post. You post wherever you want to post.

Hello , zerinus, and how are you?

I bet it is hard work doing what you do! Talk about a hard job! Knocking on doors only to have them slam in your face:( !!! But I would definitely be interested in learning more about your religion. Perhaps I judged you too fast, on the basis of what I read that was so negative.(i.e. The God Makers). DO you know of any links to information about your church. I will also look it up on the web. Blessings, and have a good day…

Tommy

What is you basis for saying that “the LDS Church in is the only Church in the world today that possesses that priesthood authority.”?
We believe that the early Christian church went into apostasy, and lost the priesthood that it originally possessed. That priesthood could not be restored in a “reformation,” as in the Protestant Reformation. It could only be restored by divine means from heaven. I have faith to believe that the account of the restoration of the priesthood to the LDS Church, by visions and ministration of angels, as told by Joseph Smith and his associates is true.

I have not heard of any official pronouncements by the Church on “Dipping” as you describe it; but I am convinced it would be considered against the “Word of Wisdom” (our rule against tea, coffee, tobacco etc). You would be expected to give it up if you wanted to join our Church.
Anyway, I wanted to ask you something, how would I go about quitting something as hard as quitting tobbacco? I’ve tried cold turkey, the patch, I’ve about chewed gum until the inside of my mouth is hurting, yet it does no good 🤷
We believe that when you sincerely want to obey the will of God, though faith and prayer He will support and strengthen you to do it. There have been many people in your situation who thought they could never give up smoking; but then surprised themselves by discovering that through faith in the Lord they could do the impossible.
Anyway, dude, if I like tried to visit your church, my mom would not pick me up from the group home where I live at. That is something that you should sort out between yourself, your parents, any close friends and advisors that you might have, and the Lord. There is not a lot that I can help you with that, especially since I know so little about you and your family background.
I know alot of people are going to accuse me of being a Mormon troll, or something, but I’m not.
I don’t. I believe you are sincere.
Well, I am not here to bash Catholicism or any other religion. We believe that the early Christian church went into apostasy; but that does not mean that other churches are evil. They have had a useful role to play in history in teaching faith in Christ. But we believe that the fullness of the gospel and the priesthood has now been restored from heaven, and rests exclusively in the LDS Church.
Anyway, are you one of those young men who knock on doors and pass out your books?
No. That is normally done by our fulltime missionaries, which I am not one.
But, I have never met someone so sure of their faith as you are. I hope that you have a good day.
You are right about that, thank you. I have a powerful testimony of the Holy Ghost that the LDS Church is true.
P.S. How would I go about joining your church, considering I am living at a group home and my parents would kill me!!! What would you do in a situation like that?
Well, you have several options. One is to wear body armor and drive in a bullet proof car! 😉 Another option would be to ask your close relatives and family friends to mediate between you and your portents, and try to bring them round to your way of thinking. A third option (probably the best) would to ask the Lord in faith to soften the heart of your parents to allow you to join. A forth option would be disregard their sentiments and join anyway, and leave the consequences up to the Lord. That is something that you would have to resolve between yourself and them—and the Lord.

How old are you? And what is a “group home”?

I am 34 years old. A “group home” is a place where mentally disabled individuals such as myself live at. We have self esteem and health groups, and they are supposed to help us. But just because I am mentally ill does not mean that I am “mentally retarded” or anything like that. It just means that I have a chemical imbalance in my brain. On the weekends I am free to go to my parent’s house and hang out here in the city where I live at. But see, if I went to your church, my parent and my social workers would all be at me, and I might not ever get picked up again… Oh well, Cheerio for now…🙂

Thanks. Good talking to you too. As I explained in my previous post, I don’t do knocking on doors. That is done by our fulltime missionaries.

Yes, the following are the official websites of the Church:

I will also look it up on the web. Blessings, and have a good day…
I wouldn’t trust the Web too much if I were you. If you search the Web for Mormonism, for every Mormon hits you get, you are likely to get 200 anti-Mormon ones! If you are seriously interested in investigating the LDS Church, your best option would be to seek out the missionaries, and ask them to teach you. If you have difficult questions that they cannot answer, you can bring them here and I will answer them for you. But I am not in a position to guide you step by step on how to join the Church. This is not a suitable venue to do that either. We don’t want to upset the board admin. 🙂

Well, I can understand your parents being upset, if they don’t like you joining our Church; but your social workers have no right to. They have a job to do, and it is none of their business what religious interests you might have. If they tried to do that you can report them, and they will be disciplined. The LDS Church itself has its own independent social services that can help or advise you on that. Your local LDS bishop can also be of assistance. Are you able to have visitors? If you are, try to contact your local LDS bishop, tell him of your interest, and ask him to come and visit you. When he comes explain to him fully your situation, ask him for the Church’s assistance, and he will sort things out for you. Whereabouts do you live? You can contact me by PM or email if you don’t want to disclose information about yourself on the boards.

Faith in the Restoration, the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

I have to write zerinus that both catholicism and mormonism contain a lot of good and yet, both have certain drawbacks. For the lds church, in my opinion, are the callings the members are supposed to be engaged in. This tends to be at times a problem in today’s hectic western valued world. It is unfortunate to say the least that a church which stresses followship seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to time commitment.

For the catholic church, the drawback is the lack of fellowship between catholics. Of course, the catholic church is changing and more programs are being offered for members to get together. The other drawback is that most catholics do not live their faith. And I am referring to those that attend the Mass and not to those that don’t. Those that don’t are commiting a mortal sin but those that do, seem to be only sunday catholics by and large.

In terms of moral conduct and teachings about morality, the lds church wins hands down. My own daughters have had a fantastic moral education in the church and of course, by their parents too. In the catholic faith, although similiar to the lds moral code, the young adult and teenage members seem to be left to their own devices more often than not.

And I have to say that many catholics would be alive today if they didn’t drink alcohol.

And who gave you the right to make that judgment? Present some statistics, please.

In terms of moral conduct and teachings about morality, the lds church wins hands down.

I wish you would read the Catechism of the Catholic Church for its teachings about ethics. There are many more sins than sexual sin and substance abuse. IMHO, rejection of abuse of this Earth, rejection of racism, rejection of exploitation of workers, rejection of malicious gossip and slander, and respect of people of other faiths are examples of the broader ethics of the Catholic church. This is a broader definition of sin, and one that is more in tune with God’s will. Simply read the Ten commandments, and the “Golden Rule” and expand on them. The scriptural base of this is obvious.

The LDS are a very proud people.

Ephesians 2:8-10:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

"Not of works, lest any man should boast.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

This tendency of LDS to see themselves as better than others is one of their biggest problems. I have known too many good Protestant and Catholics to fall for whyme’s line of reasoning. The Protestants and Catholics do drink coffee and tea though as well as an occasional adult beverage. The number of Protestants and Catholics who lead wonderful moral lives is much greater than the number of LDS who lead wonderful moral lives. LDS only have about four million “active” members.
