This thread has been going on and on and on about LDS beliefs, for and against. Now I have a question to pose to Mormons that all Catholics would have about something that probably disturbes Catholics and (to be honest) often puzzles me. Why do you have such a problem with the display of a cross, with or without a corpus?
For us, it has a significant meaning because it is where Jesus achieved our salvation. It helps me in particular to meditate upon the fact that he wants us all to carry our particular crosses and grow in grace. As a result, we learn to love and sacrifice better. Thus, we grow in virtue. We all need symbols in our lives as a way to learn to live like Jesus lived, why should the cross be excluded. Yes, there are many pictures of Jesus both before and after the Resurection to meditate upon. But why should we skip over the cross just because it is sometimes difficult to look at (like in Mel Gibson’s movie)?
When it occured to me to ask this question, I did a brief web search to find an appropriate Catholic site to help me pose my question. Please go to it and please explain the Mormon perspective on this confusing question.
