Douay-Rheims:
Where is the obedience? What am I to be obidiant to? custodians of unsound doctrine?!?!
Those same custodians of that are afoul of orthodoxy?
I have not been attending Mass in the diocese of Saginaw Michigan, for various reasons, but not including widespread sexual abuse by priests. We have been blessed by very little of that, to our knowledge.
but, I’m right there with your outrage over the lack of orthodoxy.
I wrote over 100 letters to my former parish pastor about his insults to me, over several issues.
I wanted to start a bible reading and discussion group in the parish, but he didn’t think that was in the best interest of all (his owrds) when I asked him five years ago.
Unknown to me, the diocese was working to get some adult formation started iin the parishes, including bible study – and that, using Catholic Services Appeals money, to boot.
So, not only was my pastor insulting my intelligence, he was working counter-productively to the diocesan effort.
It appears that his agenda was to keep me out of the project, because a bible study group was started up just a couple months ago. I’m a guy, and the group study is run by the locale female DRE.
Incidentally, she is one of the modernists, with a skeptical view of the authenticity of scripture. Her course might as well be subtitled, “the lore of the bible.” She is definitely not a subscriber of what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about the Bible. It doesn’t say to just get your local biased scholar’s point of view – it says to consider all that the Church has taught about scripture – nothing was thrown out.
Of course, I don’t feel totally right about all this. I’d rather be going to Mass, if I could find a priest who was trustworthy, not just popular.
The new bishop is “cleaning up the mess from the last bishop” as I had forecast. He rules out having fruit, honey, sugar, and oil, for example, in altar breads. At, nearly at the first anniversary of his installation, he also came down against having lay people delivering sermons at Mass. He’s also had a seminar on the GIRM so people would know what to expect.
He was beseiged by lay people who were exasperated about Mass, when to stand and sit and kneel. He could see that the diocese was in chaos.
That’s a good start, and it tells me that this Bishop has been “told” about what’s been going on here. And, he has publicized his goal of greatly reversing the dwindling number of priests. He has more seminarians in school in one year, than the previous bishop had in 25 years.
