So, today I let myself into a bitter, heartbroken crying. I rarely ever cry out loud in front of another person - mostly, I hide away if the “job” is to be done with dignity , haha - but today was different. Out of the blue.

Person A and B (senior to me) , whom I trusted with all my heart and always looked up for inspiration , misunderstood my silence as a disrespect. The why-and-how is a long story, let’s leave it - person A reprimanded me with bitter words, and with her I’ve a decade long relationship of sisterhood from two different mothers and different corners of the world. We did have occasional clashes but I’ve always remained discreetly silent because she has helped me several times.

The accusation (by A) that I was stepping out of boundary and disrespecting them , particularly person B , hurt me like nothing had (done) before. While I’ve spent each day praying the rosary (and miscellany of other prayers) for them ( I do it first for others, and then for myself), while I’ve done everything to avoid offending them , the blatant finger pointing shocked me as well as broke my trust with them , forever, perhaps.

It was a bitter realization - do not trust anyone. That said, I’m not trying to say I am guilt free. One of my worst habits is that I speak less. So, of course people will misunderstand me. But NOT PEOPLE WHO HAVE KNOWN ME FOR SUCH A LONG TIME.

While I was crying, A apologized to me. But what of that? The heart is so shaken up that I don’t see any reasons why I should spend an hour with the rosary devoting the prayers for people who can easily pierce my heart.

I’m so very tired of people. My efforts to do and mean) good for them always goes in vain.

What am I doing wrong? The prayers? Or am I such a sinner that God isn’t willing to accept those prayers?(It’s not just the prayers. I show my goodwill in actions too, but alas…) .

😔 ☹️

Be careful about your expectations. You have your shortcomings and other people have theirs. So, I’m not sure why this is a big deal. It just sounds like normal human behavior.

Join the club, my friend. The human world is filled with adversity, trial, pain and hurt feelings, along with many, many people with whom we will clash from time to time, some more often than others. It’s all part of the growth experience without which we would not mature in the spirit. I would suggest doing a search or study on patience in scripture or the teachings of Paul which exhort us to rejoice in our many tribulations. Its very tough, and we don’t have to enjoy it. Just know you are far from being alone in this. hugs and blessings. 🙂

Yes, of course it’s totally normal.

But, would you hurt a person (whether or not you are a Christian) who helped you cross a broken bridge (metaphorically and literally) ? If yes, then alright. Everything is “normal”.

“Rejoice in our tribulation” .

Thank you for the reminder. It’s tough learning to “rejoice” on our trials and tribulations!!

One of my worst habits is that I speak less.
Silence is usually interpreted as agreement and/or guilt. Try not to “clam up”. Also, if you are giving people the silent treatment deliberately, that can infuriate people.

No effort or prayer you do for someone is ever in vain. It is very much a grace from God that you have done so! Your goodness, love, and prayers could possibly be the only light of hope they have in their day. Others will react in anger, selfishness, or other things that will pain our hearts. And that is where we are called to turn the other cheek. To give our second tunic. To be Christ’s light even if they choose to toss back the tunic at your face. Did not Jesus suffer this very experience up until his death on the cross? He cried out “My God, my God why have you abandoned me?” He felt abandoned just like you do. And then He also cried out “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Jesus died on the cross for each of us who so easily pierce His heart in sin. And still do today. Are we not called to be like Jesus was? To visit the sick, to feed the hungry, to give drink to the thirsty? To instruct the ignorant, to counsel the doubtful, to admonish the sinners? And finally, yes, I know it is difficult. This is nearly one of the greatest challenges- not being understood by anyone and feeling hurt by everyone. Your pain is difficult and your struggle is valid. It is now that you must remember to ask Christ to carry you, and your cross. Not even a single breath that comes from our lungs is not from God’s grace and so much more we do not have the strength to carry our crosses on our own. Ask God to help you walk this path and continue following the path that Jesus did, not the easy way, but the narrow way which ultimately leads to our goal of unity with Him in Heaven.

Peace and blessings❤️
Praying for you.

Your question is ambiguous but I wonder if your investment in this persons ‘debt’ to you may be unrealistic? Everyone has their unique issues. Many times these can be resolved by honest talking. Sometimes that fixes the relationship. Sometimes the clarity allows you to move on. I say this to my daughter all the time lately but try not to take everything so personally. Allow for other peoples issues as much as you want them to allow for yours.

Hope things improve for you. God bless.

I pray for some of the very people that hurt me the most, because they need my prayers just as much as I need someone else’s.

Faith! Faith first, faith last and faith in-between! Read the condensed lives of the great Saints. They dealt with severe deprivation and spiritual and corporal punishment for decades, yet persevered in faith. They are our inspiration and example.
  1. If you are treated unjustly, this is the Lord calling you to pray for your enemies.
  2. Bearing wrongs patiently and praying for them is one of the 7 spiritual acts of mercy.
  3. With patience (suffering without complaint), and perseverance in prayer, you will help the Lord to soften their hearts. You may not see this, and it is often better that we do not.
  4. If you are wrong in something, admit it! This is how were are corrected and grow. We enjoy being right, but we learn when we are wrong.
  5. Bear in mind that I am well into the latter half of my life - living on borrowed time actually - and am still learning these things.
A point to ponder - certainly no response is necessary. Have you found that, through life, you have a certain difficulty dealing with people, expressing yourself in a manner which is understood, or an overreaction to opposing viewpoints? Do you cry a lot? There may be an underlying condition that is correctable and can greatly improve your peace of heart. If so, you might even discuss this with doctor.

Yep been there and got the “T” shirt.
When I asked what did the priest tell you .
To do . about stealing my gold and silver. 2,000.
And backstabbing me .
My life time religious Catholic friend said.
It was none of my business!😰

True indeed! I used to think, we can at least trust a few select. I’ve resigned from trusting anyone except God.

Well said Ellie. I try to find solace and refuge in Lord Jesus’ Earthly sufferings. I read His scourging on the cross, the mercilessly endless tortures and humiliation He was put through and despite all that He forgiving them all is an ointment to my “wounds”.

OP how are you?

Is this common behavior for this person? Do you feel you have reasonable expectations for them and their behavior?

People will hurt you at one time or another, just like I, in my own thoughtlessness, moments of pain, or simple ignorance of the details of a situation, have hurt other people at one time or another

This is part of the human condition

This world is pain - and forgiveness the way to deal with that pain

Or not, I’m just some guy on the Internet

It was a bitter realization - do not trust anyone.
As the Psalmist says, Better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust mortals.
How true!

I’ve been there and experienced theft from people whom I’d trusted, and am still staggered by learning their identity. We need to count our fingers, surreptitiously, perhaps, but count them, and check our backs for knives. I don’t know if the sense of betrayal will ever disappear. Best wishes to you.

I wish I knew what to tell you, @sorrowful1, but I don’t. I’ll never understand why people can be so crass, unfeeling, and dishonest. My only solution, in addition to praying about it, is to avoid them when I can, and to not sink to their level when avoidance is impossible; I don’t want to give them the satisfaction of provoking me into sinful behavior.
