I didn’t read it like that either.Hmmm, I didn’t read it like that. I don’t think he’s at all saying that Protestantism is the cause of our original sin.

They are similarWhoa, haha! I in now way want to defend heresy but comparing Protestantism to the cause of our original sin seems a little thick. Maybe it’s just because I have never heard that before. Good point though for sure.
Are you a Mormon? You must be thinking of Mormonism.
That’s just it. I don’t see Protestants as “true believers”…not in the fullest sense anyway. One cannot be a “true believer” while holding heretical doctrine. Yet most Protestants talk as if the “invisible church of true believers” exists independent of doctrine.Hi,
Yes I totally understand where you are coming from. IMHO I think God sees us(believers) as a spiritual unity.
Wow!!! How successful has this style of evangelizing been for you? That’s just it. I don’t see Protestants as “true believers”…not in the fullest sense anyway. The Holy Catholic Church is the true Church. It contains the true faith and God ordained clergy. Yet it is made up of wheat and chaff, sheep and goats.
One cannot divide Christ by accepting the head (Christ) while rejecting the body (His Church.) Christ said whosoever rejects you rejects me and if they do not listen to the Church, let them be like heathens and publicans. It is not possible to reject Christ’s Church and purport to fully and truly walk with Christ.
Has playing patty-cake worked for you?Wow!!! How successful has this style of evangelizing been for you?![]()
There must be a point in time when you call a spade a spadeLiving by example has worked far better, thank you.
I always found it to be dishonest. About 10 years ago when I was at the University of Sydney there were many people from Christian groups who’d come up and talk to me and befriend me, but only insofar as they thought that they could get a convert.I second the reply of NotWorthy. I have done Catholic evangelization door to door now for 5 years. What makes people listen and ask me to return is being pleasant and proclaiming with tact. Others who just want to argue will never be converted I have found from experience. Just some thoughts.

I was one of the only Catholics in my class that was over 95% Evangelical Protestants (we live in the heart of the Bible Belt down here in Southeast Texas). They would bring up my religion and crack a joke about why I worship Mary, or laugh at my belief in the Real Presence. I’d ask them what their Church taught about Catholics (in regards to their joke). They’d tell me, and I’d gently explain what Catholics teach and why we teach it.I always found it to be dishonest. They call this ‘love bombing’.
It’s exactly like selling any other product. It’s also exactly like when you go to the check-out of the supermarket and they ask “How are you today?” - maybe you think they’re genuinely interested.
If people are disingenuous (?) with you, that’s their problem. Not yours. As I recall Jesus said, “Love only those that are geniune to you?”It’s exactly like selling any other product. Hi,Living by example has worked far better, thank you.
I’ve been on sites that have tried to evangelize me by telling me and others how satanic Catholic Worship is, and it just didn’t seem to bring any conversions, no matter how much they believed it.
Take AllForHim for example. She’s spent about six months on this site and she’s asked some pretty good quesions and listened to the answers. Will we convert her? Who knows, but she’s still here asking questions.
If everytime time she makes a comment like she just did and she’s answered with the rhetoric you just gave her, I don’t think we’ll see her around here much longer.
You do the math.
If only I’d actually made that claim, then your post would have actually addressed it and not been a straw-manIf people are disingenuous (?) with you, that’s their problem. Not yours. As I recall Jesus said, “Love only those that are geniune to you?”
No, “Love your enemies”.
Silly me.If only I’d actually made that claim, then your post would have actually addressed it and not been a straw-man
My motive is to understand what the God breathed words are saying in context. Most of scripture is readily understandable without need of an interpreter. Are you a Mormon?
Your own example is typical. On another thread I pointed out where Jesus says it’s His real Body and Blood. You disagree.
I pointed out where Paul says this. You disagree.
I pointed out where Church Fathers said this. You disagree.
I pointed out secondary evidence where the pagans criticised Christians for consuming the Body and Blood. You disagree.
John 6:40 For my Father’s will is that **everyone whoEven when Jesus tells us He’s not talking figuratively you want to suppose that He is.
You disagree based on your own reckoning of what is right and wrong - and make yourself (in your own belief) as wise as all of them.
Again I disagree, Christians Love Gods word and desire to seek its Truth. When we see the organized church teaching contrary to scripture our motivation is certainly not pride. That’s the problem with Protestantism is that it starts with the seduction of pride (“You can determine the truth all by yourself, and no matter what truth you come to, God must assuredly be helping you, because you pray to Him and put your trust in Him” - itself a self-proving belief). Even the Jesus says you should not tempt the Lord.
