Archbishop Michael Neary of Tuam, Ireland has said that he was “horrified and saddened”; by a commission report that confirmed about 800 babies had been buried in unmarked graves near a home for unwed mothers in Tuam.

Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights: WHY IRELAND’S “MASS GRAVE” STORY IS A HOAX

Is it a hoax, or just a gross exaggeration?

“Tuam babies scandal is fake news, claims the Catholic League”

For instance, this article has a picture captioned:
“The entrance to the site of a mass grave of hundreds of children who died in the former Bons Secours home for unmarried mothers is seen in Tuam, County Galway”

There seems no evidence that there were “hundreds” in the mass grave.

Or perhaps it’s not an exaggeration, gross or otherwise.

Vatican Radio reports that “Archbishop Michael Neary of Tuam in Ireland has spoken of his shock to learn of the extent of the numbers of children buried in the graveyard at the former Catholic orphanage “Mother and Baby Home” in Tuam.” full story]

Please read the Catholic League statement. Do we have evidence of the actual numbers in this mass grave; or not, as Bill Donahue says?

Vatican Radio refers to 800 babies.

And frankly, does it matter if there were hundreds of dead children or only a few dozen? It’s still a horrible thing.

Donohue’s use of the word “hoax” is about as accurate as the use of the word “mass grave”…

Have to agree.
Even if the numbers were lower it wouldn’t make it less shocking or tragic, and I’m glad the Archbishop of Tuam has made that statement following the recent findings.

Whether it’s true or not, the local church needs to set the record straight. There has to be records of what went on there and whether they were doing everything they should to respect the dead.

Sorry, I don’t find Bill Donahue to be a credible source for anything. Seems like the Vatican and the local bishop are not disputing the commission’s findings.

That article from Forbes gives a much fuller story and makes an effort to get the facts right as opposed to the internet hysteria being generated.
I just read it too . . .Eamonn Fingleton ties it all together very nicely on pg 2 of the article . . . makes the most sense out of anything I’ve read so far on the subject.

Thank you for the link MartinJordan.

I found this as I was reading a yahoo article about Islamophobia. A comment by someone referring to the former subject matter, decided to jump on this “Catholic” atrocity.

Very disappointing how people want to find fault with the Catholic church, just to “stir the pot”.

Absolutely my pleasure. 🙂

Hopefully it’ll catch on and wipe off the sordid reporting phenomena that is infiltrating the Web. Fancy that, latching on to a past story. Ofcourse the matter is morose and sad of those times but we have to get back to perspective.

Peace be with you.

As Marvin the paranoid android would say:
😃
In my family, we have coined a term for such acts by bots, spell-checkers and other automated processes that create unintentional comedy: “Artifical Unintelligence.” 😃

“Zombies”, “Zombots” as alternatives?

“Zombies”, “Zombots” as alternatives?
That would be strangely apposite, given the way in which philosophers such as David Chalmers (a compatriot of yours, I believe! :)) use the word “zombie” to refer to a theoretical being like a human, but without conscious experience. 👍

Dear ones. I dropped away as I knew what was about to break here in Ireland.

And today I read here that the appalling discoveries of what will be up to 6000 Irish babies buried like so much rubbish is a hoax?

Not so.

This week the Church here in Ireland has been all but destroyed by the findings.

clericalwhispers.blogspot.ie/2017/03/tuam-mother-and-baby-home-everything_3.html

The commission into this has been working for 2 years.

Now we have the names of all the children.

clericalwhispers.blogspot.ie/2017/03/these-were-796-children-who-died-at.html

And each day new revelations from other mother and baby homes run by religious orders

breakingnews.ie/ireland/names-of-dead-infants-at-bessborough-and-roscrea-were-given-to-the-hse-in-2011-780324.html

We need your prayers and that we all face the truth of all this. I work on a big Irish forum, boards.ie and the thread on this would break the heart of Jesus. Breaks mine. I ache with weeping.

Please pray for us here

Please let this thread stand.
