We lay it all out in the open. We also do not hide our identity to people when we hold a seminar. The Adventist do both these things. This is one of the markings of a Cult. Peace

Another potential marking of a cult someone might consider to be might be requiring full submission of one’s conscience to another. But I am cautious before considering faith a cult. Welcome Ronald. Yes the 2nd coming and the 7th day Sabbath are 2 big considerations of SDAs. Which is my point. Since Adventism professes Christ Lord and Savior and is focused on His 2nd coming, that makes Adventism Christian.
Peace.Adventism does do this. Their teachings determine what you can eat. what clothes you can wear. How to wear your hair. They do not allow jewelry, not even the wedding band. Further more. you cannot drink any alchohol, use tobacco, or drink caffinated products. these are just a few of the restrictions if you wish to be part of the “group.” There are far more restrictions on normal day to day life, in Groups like these, than you would ever find in the CC. The Polish Conference of Bishops declared several years ago that SDAs are not a cult. As an obedient daughter of the Church, I accept their declaration.

But I think this judgment by the Church is dependent on the belief that the Trinity referred to by the Adventists is the real Trinity. If in fact they don’t believe in the Trinity in the Catholic sense, the question of the validity of their baptisms might need to be reconsidered. After all, Mormons use the Trinitarian formula too, don’t they? And it sounds as if the Adventist view of the “Trinity” is a lot closer to that of the Mormons than I had thought.
Hi benedict, I’m new here. To comment on your post, those restrictions, of my understanding, are to help you live a better life mentally, physically, and spiritually. Like myself, I never wore jewelry too much and when I started studying Adventism, I found myself a lot healthier than before when I changed my diet. Also not wearing jewelry, in my opinion, keeps you focus and humble. Wearing a wedding ring symbolizes to some the outward appearance of marriage, but one does not have to wear a wedding ring to be married. I know plenty of people who aren’t SDA who does not wear a wedding ring or jewelry for that matter. But this is my opinion, some people have theirs and has a right to. I respect all. Not necessarily, because the INTENTION to do what the Early Church did is there, The formula AND the intention are the two key components to a valid baptism. For example, suppose a young Catholic child finds a person on the point of death, and using the Trinitarian formula sprinkles him with the intention of doing what the Church does. The child has no understanding of the doctrine of the trinity (a fully catechised adult has very little understanding of it which is why it’s called a mystery). The child doesn’t know from modalism or arianism or any other kind of ism, he knows the formula not its ramifications. This lack of understanding does not enter in to the validity of rite he has performed.

Are you SDA? If so, can you tell us what your church teaches about the Trinity? That, after all, seems to be a basic concern here.
I’m not SDA, but I’m studying it. Is there anything specific that you would like to know and later I may be able to provide some information for you.
If you have read through the posts, the concern is if their Trinitarian teaching is the same as traditional Christian teaching. That is, do they see the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three Persons in One God as expressed in the Nicene Creed. And what is the nature of Christ? Is he fully human and fully divine? Is He true God and True Man? Is he consubstantial with the Father? Was He begotten or made? Do the SDA’s believe He is the Archangel Michael?
I will try to explain to the best of my ability. I will start with your first question. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to my understanding of SDA doctrine is that they are three separate beings yet are all equal (for lack of words) An example of this is at the baptism of Jesus when all three were there. See Matthew 3:16,17
