Is anyone else annoyed at how much Protestants stress Jesus?

again this is strange to me… just the opposite of my experiences… maybe we live in completely different parts of the country…

but anyway… like i said, i WISH i had this problem because i am around people who seem to feel uncomfortable hearing the wrod Jesus… even Catholics…

hmmmm :hmmm:

i’m beginning to think I’m living in the wrong part of the world…:coffeeread:
I know the feeling… I have three friends I can talk about my faith with and that’s it for outside the family. 😦

Well talk to 'em about God then!😃 JK, but really, I don’t think you’ve grasped how bad it can get. Seriously, there are times when I feel like if I asked a question like, “Well, what did God say in–” They’d cut me off (which has happened) and ask, “whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up now. Who’s this God guy you’re talking about?” The levels of Jesus worship and God-ignoring can get that bad sometimes. It almost seems that they have stared at the Light of Christ for too long and now are blind to the Glory of God.

Baptist thing!!!

The Baptists i know seem to believe in OnceSavedAlwaysSAved… i know of this one conversation where the guy said that he was cheating on his wife but it was no big deal because he was saved by grace anyhow… Yikes… talk about weird… Maybe some sects of Baptists still believe in fire & brimstone but the ones i know… forget it…

and as far as them thinking Jesus is kind and tolerant… again, some that i know… seem to think He is kind and tolerant only of them!!! 😃 😦
Don’t get me wrong, I love my Baptist roots, but my pastor used to scare the daylights out of us kids with some of his sermons. I guess that was the intention 😃

I hope this doesn’t offend anybody, but something I’ve noticed about Protestants is that they have a slightly warped view of Jesus. I’m not saying that their God is different than the Catholic’s God, but I think that we view them vastly differently. Let me try to clarify that. When I hear Protestants talking about God’s love and mercy and kindness, they never mention God. Instead, they always say it’s Jesus’s kindness or Jesus’s mercy or Jesus’s love. But when they talk about God’s rage and anger and punishment, they never mention Jesus at all! It’s always God that gets angry and pissed off at His people, never Jesus! Now I now that because of the Trinity that Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are the same Person. So technically, they are talking about all three. But what maddens me (if you think I’m overreacting, FYI this is a pet peeve of mine for whatever reason) is that they seem to limit God and Jesus to those attributes. I rarely ,if ever, hear a Protestant talk about how in the Gospel of John Jesus knocked over the moneychangers’ table. Sometimes the only time I hear them talk about the love of God is when they quote John 3:16.

NOTE: I always see this in the Evangelical/Pentecostal/Fundamentalist Protestants I hang out with (which is all of them lol). Lutherans/Presbyterians and other traditional Protestants I’ve never seen this with.

Your Thoughts?
No. It’s the “Buddy Jesus” thinking that annoys me the most. 🙂

In a slight twist on this theme, I have argued with some Evangelical/Fundamentalists in these forums. Several, but one in particular, used quotes from of Saint Paul incessantly. In all of the points we argued, not once did he quote Jesus. It sounded like he was a Paulist - even though Paul prohibited such behavior in 1 Corinthians 1:10-17. Kinda strange.

i laughed at this… just goes to show how people are different…(NOT better than… just DIFFERENT!! :D) i didn’t take the wording all that seriously… but anyway… you are right when you say that to attack someone is to attack God himself… I wish more poeple would fully realize this truth (St Mt 25:31)… but it seems they don’t much of the time. Even so, i don’t think you should attack poster in this… about how some Christians do this or that… because he /she was not attacking a particular person (poster)… so i don’t see how anyone can take it personally… just speaking in generalaties…
I am not attacking the poster. I am attacking the idealogy behind it. Speaking in general is just as bad, as it is speaking against God, no matter how you look at it. a jusdgment was being made, plain and simple.

Again “love thy neighbor as thy self”.

Good afternoon Christalone. I’m glad to meet you! 🙂

Just to clarify, would a person who is annoyed at another Christian for finding fault with another also guilty of being annoyed at the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost?

If you think someone is being condescending and displaying a “holier than thou” attitude, would you consider that as finding a fault in another person?

Kind Regards,
Finrock
I am not annoyed. That is a mere assumption. I am simply addressing the OP.

The OP knew very well that this was a “baiting question”, as is quite evident in the beginning of the first sentence.
I hope this doesn’t offend anybody, but

**It might be a good idea to get that bit of heresy straightened before criticising other Christians 🙂 They are distinct Divine Persons. BTW - “God” is used **

  • to name the Trinity
  • **to be the Name specifically of the Father **
**FWIW, plenty of Protestants avoid the unBiblical playing off of wrath against mercy that you refer to. It can be difficult to avoid, as can its oppposite. **

Sounds to me as if you want an aggressive Jesus, Jesus as Rambo  :). I’ve noticed a fondness for God the Navy S.E.A.L (I would put it more strongly, but this is a family site) a good deal among Catholics: but not among Protestants, curiously enough. It seems to be a US thing. I put it down to male hormones. 🙂

Absolutely!

So you too wish to join the circle?

Jesus says to take the log out of your own eye before removing the splinter from your brother’s doesn’t He? Haha, someone’s probably going to accuse me of hypocrisy now.
we are all hypocrites…

to say that you are not is the greatest hypocricy of all, i would think…

I know the feeling… I have three friends I can talk about my faith with and that’s it for outside the family. 😦
well, that’s three more than i have…

Ok… maybe 2 more…

there’s this one person but doesn’t live nearby… have to write…

i guess i need to get out more… but… well, Long story… just always end up being alone with God… He’s the only one who can tolerate me… 😃

I think I know why. God can not be imagined the way Jesus can. You can have a picture of Jesus on your mind but its impossible to do with God.

Monotheism requires worshiping what you can’t imagine and see. Thats why pagans always had idols they can see and touch. But you have signs that God has.

Look, I haven’t a clue as to how you can justify these ludicrous accusations. I am simply stating my opinion on a matter and asking people what they think about it. YOU on the other hand are vilifying me and trying to make me look like some self-righteous “holier than thou” person who thinks he’s better than everybody. Well let me tell you something Christalone, I see YOU as the one who’s self-righteous and “holier than thou”! That’s right, I said it! YOU are the person who has
  • Cast aspersions on my humility
  • condemned me for exercising my 1st Amendment rights
  • Taken offense to something THAT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE OFFENSIVE!!!
Seriously, what’s your deal? Are you just trying to **** me off and get under my skin? Or are you being for real and saying that I am a self-righteous jerk.

Since Jesus is the way, the truth and the light, and He is the one that died for our sins, and He and God are the same, why would one not stress His Name?

What is annoying is one Christian finding fault with another. Thinking that you are better than another, with a holier than thou attitude.

What ever happened to “love thy neighbor as thy self”? Annoyance at another is annoyance at The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost!!

And your wordage of God being ****** off is truly insulting, and not proper manners for any forum.

Is not a Christian a follower of Christ(Jesus)?
I agree with this.
Jesus cannot be stressed too much.

“Jesus said: I will show you the Father.
Phillip, His disciple, said: Show the Father to us and it will be enough for us.
Jesus answered him: Oh Phillip. So long have I been with you, and you do not recognize Me. The one who has seen Me has seen the Father”.

Koranist. God is Jesus. Jesus is God 🙂 Okay… Jesus is God incarnated. God’s face of Love and Compassion and sinlessness. True Monotheism is to worshop the True God. If you worship a false deity, like the Muslims do, then you can call yourself monotheists all you want, but it won’t make the your god into the True God.

You have to remember that we believe that ALL scripture is equally inspired. If the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write his letters, then that means that they are just as much the word of God as Jesus’ words in the Gospels.

By the way, am I the only one who finds it a little distrurbing that we’re three pages into this thread and not one Catholic has objected to the OP’s statement that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are the same person?
