Is anyone else annoyed at how much Protestants stress Jesus?

I couldn’t agree with you more!

Jesus this, Jesus that, Jesus here, Jesus everywhere!

Baby Jesus, 12 year old Jesus, early 30’s Jesus, which are you supposed to pray to?

Jesus saved me, Jesus wants to save you, pray to Jesus, Jesus hear my prayers!

It gets so old! Good question, good post.

This is a strange question coming from a Catholic - how could anyone stress Jesus more than a practicing Catholic who regularly receives the Body and Blood of Christ celebrated at a Mass?

O+
this was my first thought on reading OP

and i know non-Catholics who NEVER mention the name of Jesus… just talk about God this, God that…

i say those Protestants who mention Jesus a lot are closer to being Catholic than…

well, a lot of “catholics”… but then, after this past election, that isn’t saying a whole lot, is it???

it’s only annoying (old) because you don’t appreciate/worship/believe in Jesus…

(you say you are atheist… that explains your post)

i might not believe myself … if i had never spent a lot of time in the Real Presence…

don’t know why the Catholic Church doesn’t emphasize this more…

i don’t know what the big deal is… Jesus said if you have seen Him you have seen the Father… and the Holy Spirit emenates from both
I think we talked about this already… It’s just that it seems like some forget about the Father and the Holy Spirit.

The post isn’t about stressing Jesus so much. It’s about never mentioning the other Two of the Most Holy Trinity.

As a former Jehovah’s Witness, I can tell you that some people stress the Father over the Son and see the Holy Spirit, not as a Person, but as an invisible force. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe in worshipping only one Person, the Father. Jesus is also a person, and, although mighty, is not almighty and receives obeisance, not worship. The Holy Spirit is not a person, but a personification (God’s power) and is an “it” rather than a “he.” Personally, I like to stress all three Persons. I try to keep in mind Jesus’ words at John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day.” Also, John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” That same chapter speaks of another Advocate, the Spirit of truth, who is with us always. Vs.16-17

Exactly! That’s what I was trying to say.
Who died on the cross for you?
Who took your sins to Calvary’s Cross?

Jn.5:22 reads “'The Father judges no one, but has entrusted all the judgement to the Son. 23. That all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father He who does not honor the Son does not Father who sent Him.”

I hope this doesn’t offend anybody, but something I’ve noticed about Protestants is that they have a slightly warped view of Jesus. I’m not saying that their God is different than the Catholic’s God, but I think that we view them vastly differently. Let me try to clarify that. When I hear Protestants talking about God’s love and mercy and kindness, they never mention God. Instead, they always say it’s Jesus’s kindness or Jesus’s mercy or Jesus’s love. But when they talk about God’s rage and anger and punishment, they never mention Jesus at all! It’s always God that gets angry and pissed off at His people, never Jesus! Now I now that because of the Trinity that Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are the same Person. So technically, they are talking about all three. But what maddens me (if you think I’m overreacting, FYI this is a pet peeve of mine for whatever reason) is that they seem to limit God and Jesus to those attributes. I rarely ,if ever, hear a Protestant talk about how in the Gospel of John Jesus knocked over the moneychangers’ table. Sometimes the only time I hear them talk about the love of God is when they quote John 3:16.

NOTE: I always see this in the Evangelical/Pentecostal/Fundamentalist Protestants I hang out with (which is all of them lol). Lutherans/Presbyterians and other traditional Protestants I’ve never seen this with.

Your Thoughts?
My mum is a protestant and she probably uses Jesus’ (pbuh) name more often that God. I remember I told her this morning to wish me good luck for my exams and she said, “dont worry-Jesus will always be by your side.” And I just said, “No. God is by my side.”

This thread will make the baby Jesus cry! God will be very angry.

Sorry, couldn’t resist, didn’t try too hard.

A couple of observations. Groups get various ways to speak, church speak, it’s sometimes called. They learn certain phrases and certain ways to talk. What you are speaking of is indeed a way certain groups speak.

It does sound like modalism or that they think there are three Gods. Though at least the educated leaders don’t mean that.

Some of the groups involved really don’t have an organized time of study where people are taught the basics of the Christian faith as far as doctrine. Sunday school would tend to focus on stories, bible studies are seldom doctrinal.

Jean8, please do not try to guilt-trip me. The point of this discussion is that I feel some Protestants stress Jesus too much and ignore the Father and the Holy Spirit. Yes, I believe that Jesus “died for me” and that his death gave us the opportunity to be forgiven and reconciled to God.

Are you trying to tell me that I do not honor Jesus as much as I should? Far from the truth ma’am! I love Jesus! He’s awesome! I’m just saying that I feel people lift him up too high while not giving God and the Holy Sprirt credit where credit is due.

Execellant questions:
Who died on the cross for you?
Who took your sins to Calvary’s Cross?

Jesus did. What’s your point? I’m not saying that Jesus should be demoted. What I am saying is that I don’t like how some Protestants tend to stress Jesus while leaving God and the Holy Spirit in the background.

Jesus is the main subject of New Testament theology. How is it possible to focus too much on him?

It’s not possible. That’s not the issue. The issue is the lack of focus upon the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Firstly, I will admit I have not read through the thread. I will answer the question however with my own belief and experience.

The only cure for the stain of original sin is the BLOOD of our Blessed Lord. It is HE who saves us, there is nothing we can do to be worthy of the only SON of Almighty God dieing for us, yet, HE laid down his life that we may be saved from eternal damnation which most surely awaits those who reject Him.

I and I strongly hope all my fellow Catholic Christians do everything, breath every breath pray every prayer and offer every Mass to our Blessed Lord through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our Mother in thanksgiving and sorrow for the gift we have been given and for having hurt our Blessed Lord and his Mother so.

I agree completely. 👍

Jesus is Truth… and perfect justice and perfect love…

it is not possible to focus too much on him…

I’ve been criticized for spending a lot of time with Him in the Real Presence… but those who criticize just don’t … get it…

even though many of them are Catholics…

Jesus said that if you have seen him you have seen the Father…

and obviously, the Holy Spirit emenates from Christ.

He is holiness personified… (the Real Presence)
