Is it a sin for Catholics to do Yoga?

Are there alternatives? Yep

Ballet; Ballet often deals with controversial topics such as relationships, passions, sexuality, but also political or other social issues that address to the young and progressive people. This could cause one to sin.

climbing; I guess this is ok unless you consider that one is testing the very laws of putting your life in danger thus toying with death, which some consider a sin.

jiu jitsu; a brazilian form of defense, whoch if used to defend could lead to potentially killing someone. Some could argue that why would you train in something that COULD kill someone.

trapeze; see climbing. While this form of art can really stretch your limits, you could still die doing it…
contemporary dance; don’t get me started on those lyrics.

My point is, just about ANYTHING we do nowadays can be linked to sin. I imagine someone will find fault with just about anything.

Personally? I don’t have a desire to walk into a yoga class. Not because “Catholicism” but because I wasn’t ever flexible even as a kid. Im not going to fool myself into thinking I can do so now. I will say, this is the first I have ever heard of yoga being sinful. I want to know who is going to take up the cause and warn all Catholics? You may be shocked at how many are currently in a state of sin in parishes across the US and beyond.

From my own understanding is the Spiritual portal is real and can effect anyone at any given time.

Only with the protection of the Lords Holy Armour can we defend ourselves from it.

We must always try to keep our guard up.

I was talking to a woman who attends a Spiritual Church. They are taught to protect themselves by praying first and afterwards.

I told her be carful because she doesn’t truly understand what she’s dealing with by under estimating the Devils power of trickery. Even Jesus as man could have fallen for the Devils false lies.

I also believe anyone can tune in to the spiritual world. But that doesn’t mean we should.

But that’s a different discussion.

Am I against Yoga ? No.
We all have a free will. I sin everyday betting and drinking no matter how I justify these actions.

Do I believe it’s spiritual wrong ? Yes.

What about yoga pants? Is wearing yoga pants sinful? Maybe that’s a topic for a new thread 🤔. Like Yoga, I know it’s a subject that’s been worn out on CAF many times before, but maybe someone has some new revealing insight .

Yet you’re suggesting that demons can possess people not just unknowingly but actually AGAINST every fibre of their will? Merely through actions absent intent, or even with intent that is the opposite of demonic possession?
Add to that, people who are Baptized, and in full friendship with God, just having demons possessing them.

Fr, Gabriel Amorth
Fr, Gabriel Amorth has credibility issues.

Also, he was speaking of those who take Yoga with intentions other than physical exercise and open themselves up to whatever comes.

They could’ve as well have open themselves to evil taking up weight lifting.

It was the intention of their will which they’re willing to surrender to the demons, which opens them up to demonic possession, not Yoga itself.

Otherwise, Fr, Gabriel Amorth would be accusing the population of India of being demonically possessed.

Yes, among those who do not believe in wicked spirits, demonic deception and diabolical machinations of fallen angels.
Also, he was speaking of those who take Yoga with intentions other than physical exercise
Again, the aim of yoga at the local gym incorporates mind, body and spirit in order to achieve harmony and inner peace; in fact someone here was saying they practice ”christ-centered yoga” unknowingly incorporating the body contortions formulated to invoke pagan spirits.

Not so. The warnings are for Catholics. Just like heresy and apostasy can only apply to Catholics who reject the faith they once had, so too Catholics who contort their bodies in the context of the spirit-invoking yoga positions in search if mind, body and spiritual inner peace are not only spiritually prostituting themselves, but they are opening themselves up to demonic spiritual deception. After all, a billion Hindus do not believe in Christ, while countless Catholics have fallen into apostasy and the practice of new age religions. Yoga is a gateway spiritual drug.

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. -John 15:22

Yes, among those who do not believe in wicked spirits, demonic deception and diabolical machinations of fallen angels.
This is quite a claim.

You have seen articles by respected Canonist Ed Peters and Catholic Answers Senior Apologist, Jimmy Akin. You may want to re-word your claim.

Yes, among those who do not believe in wicked spirits, demonic deception and diabolical machinations of fallen angels.
This is your claim. I would suggest that you either back it up or retract it with regard to Dr Peters and Mr Akin.

Yes, among those who do not believe in wicked spirits, demonic deception and diabolical machinations of fallen angels.
No, it had to do with his exaggerations. He once claimed to have performed over 50,000 exorcisms. It was mathematically impossible for him to have done this.

None of the postures were not formulated to invoke pagan gods. If this is the person’s intention, then it’s their intention alone and not the fault of the exercise. They can do the same with any form of physical exercise including just walking.

BTW, I’m the one who mentioned Christ Centered Yoga. Being Christ Centered is where we Christians are suppose to be. “Pray Unceasingly” as St Paul taught.

Exorcism is the person surrendering their will to a demonic force. Once they surrender their will, which is the greatest gift God has given us, the demon can control the person. Read “Hostage to the Devil,” by Malachi Martin for a better understanding about demonic possession.

Someone had a melt down over people doing Stations of the Cross Yoga. I watched the video and it made perfect sense.

Not demonically possessed, but spiritually deceived; after all, in Hinduism rats are venerated. interesting video:

From the letter of 1989 #28
That does not mean that genuine practices of meditation which come from the Christian East and from the great non-Christian religions, which prove attractive to the man of today who is divided and disoriented, cannot constitute a suitable means of helping the person who prays to come before God with an interior peace, even in the midst of external pressures.

Just ignore it?

He once claimed to have performed over 50,000 exorcisms. It was mathematically impossible for him to have done this.
Yes, and as he explained, each exorcism does not represent a victim of possession, but rather each exorcism is counted as a prayer or ritual alone, and some possession victims required hundreds of exorcisms. Amorth said that only 94 of his thousands of exorcisms represented full-blown possession, and said that a person may be possessed by more than one demon at once, sometimes numbering in the thousands, which is what accounts for the high number of reputed demons exorcised. In the Scriptures when Jesus cast out demons they were legions of devils.
Exorcism is the person surrendering their will to a demonic force.
Not so. Exorcisms are performed on people who are seeking help from an exorcism to liberate them from demonic possession.

Again, the devil is very tricky; he always appears as a beacon of light and truth to lure the unweary down the path of self deception through his ambassadors on earth.

”For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness.” 1 Cor. 11:12.

Yes, and as he explained, each exorcism does not represent a victim of possession
This was his tap dance after being confronted by theologians.

You lack an understanding about how a person becomes demonically possessed

I suggest you read the book, “Hostage To The Devil,” by Malachi Martin
He was an exorcist and expert on exorcism and was sought by exorcist priests for consultation.

Again, a person becomes possessed by surrendering their will to the demonic force

The exorcists must work to help the person regain their " will."

Not so. that he cast out tens of thousands is consistent with the gospels. As we see what happened with the man possessed with legions of demons, mentioned in the gospels of Mark and Luke,

“ Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.”- Mark 5: 7-14
Again, a person becomes possessed by surrendering their will to the demonic force
This surrender can happen in many ways, including obstinacy in sin and dabbling with the occult. No doubt contorting one’s body in the shape of spirit invocation is not wise for a Christian to do.
