Ed, you might want to read the article here:
letfreedomgrow.com/cmu/cannabis_and_neuroprotection.htm Basically they are finding many uses for THC, the main ingredient in cannabis. There have been a number of studies that support the use, and I can remember that the DOD was involved…in fact the Army Hospital at Fort Riley, KS was part of it… One of my neighbors who was a Master Sergeant had glaucoma, and the had him rolling and smoking a couple a day… The THC as the effect of lessening of the intraocular pressure of the eyes, hence the retinas do not die due to forced blood starvation…
The article outlines a number of other uses in medicine for THC.

Now is using it a sin… I honestly don’t know if sitting in a room getting stoned and listing to the “Lemon Song” or “Innagaddadivida” would be considered sinful. I would think getting stoned, followed by horrendous cotton-mouth, further aggravated by an insatiable case of the “munchies”… Now that could get rather sinful. You could commit the sin of gluttony by eating a 5 pound bag of chips, two large Domino’s pizzas, and everything else in the house.
Now, we have to keep in mind…
“Buzzed driving = Drunk driving” and that’s how the laws are written. If you are buzzed (stoned) and you crank the car and go cruising…I’d say you were in a very sinful position. You’re an accident waiting to happen…much like someone with a +.08 BA. Don’t kid yourself, if you smoked some really good “bud”…your reaction times would slower than molasses in January…
Now, beyond the fact that you might be using it for “recreational use only”… I think the trick is: What makes it sinful is excessive use/consumption. Can’t get a buzz on just a little so you keep rollin and tokin… Its just like booze at that point.
Off the top of my head…I don’t think there are actually any laws against “smoking weed”…I could be wrong on that, but here in FL…its not illegal to smoke it, but it is illegal to buy, sell, possess, transport, or have within your possession within 1000 feet of a school. And they take your drivers license for 6 months to 2 years.
Here, check it out. Ask yourself is it worth it?

I guess the real question should be: Is it foolish to smoke reefer and gamble with my life, career, and future just for the occasional “buzz”?
No, I’m not a “user”, but I am a “child of the 60’s”, and I currently hold 3 Federal clearance, and am subject drug and alcohol testing at a moments notice, anywhere, anytime, randomly. I don’t use any drugs, period…its a career killer.
