Is it a sin or sinful to smoke marijuana?

is not a catholic formula to ensure heaven. Its already been stated in this thread that smoking pot involves you in drug trafficking, this is strickly forbidden by our Church. You can " what if this or what if that " to death- but facts are facts. The same mexican growers more than likely traffic other drugs as well, and possibly people too. you can “what if i grew it myself?” well, do YOU? The Lord wants his servant to be single minded, focused on his will, not getting high or even slightly high to forget about his will. We are, as christians, called to a life of suffering and prayer… eventually we will all suffer- it is the suffering and how we respond to it that purifies us and makes us holy. " what if this and what if that" is speculation and not pertinant to what you are doing NOW. WHY do you want to get high is the question you need to ask yourself…and the hands who brought you this pot- their suppliers… who have they harmed to continue their illegal black market?

I gotta agree with you on that one. I guess they forgot about the ten commandments. It is so easy to say you are a good person, you are getting into heaven. But you gotta go to another Church then a Catholic CHurch to hear that one. In A Catholic CHurch you are going to get the truth. And the truth is you cannot sin, and to break the law is a sin. I am sorry. Can you get high and still get into heaven. SUre you can, you go confess your sin and you quit that sin. Its as simple as that. Seems easy huh. But quitting that sin is not quite as easy as confessing it. But you can if you want to. ITs so easy to turn back to God. All you really have to do is WANT TO. But here is the question do you want to. Do you want to quit taking the easy way out everyday and getting stoned just because you want to relax and escape life a little after a hard days work. Would it not be better to be able to relax all day. Turn to God and ask him for his grace to help you and guess what, You will find a new way of life. And suddenly being stoned will not have its hold on you anymore. God can show you a high that can last all your life. And you want to hear the best part, when you are in great need that high is stronger than ever. You don’t need drugs, you need Faith. And trust me one day when you are at your worst and you get pulled over by the cops and have rosarys in your hands or car you will not get arrested for seeking your fix. God and the Blessed Mother will be in that car with you protecting You. Trust me, I know!

Thanks for the info I emailed him just now on this issue. He wants transparency in govt. but yet he signed this paper on abortion behind closed doors. WHASUP with that!?

I couldnt agree more. For me, it took great humilty to get on my knees and tell the Lord that I am a slave to sin, including the pot, that I was powerless and could not stop. On my knees I placed my sin at his feet… I asked Mary to pray with me. When I arose my heart was filled with His love and when I found myself in the near occassion for sin in the future, I was filled with a new strength- and awareness. I walked away from the occassion successfully, but then fully aware that I will not put myself in that occassion again. It was only when I let go, that the Lord was able to come in and be my strength. And it strengthened my faith to realize, He loves me so much- and is determined to help me attain heaven!

Are you a fundamentalist who believes literally what ever the Bible says? Why don’t you eat some poison ivy? After all it is a plant? Or perhaps some rattlesnake venom? After all God made that! Interesting how some people can even use Scripture to justify stuff isnt it? I’m sure the guys who blew up the World Trade Center could justify that with “Scripture” since the Koran was their version of God’s word.

How sad huh. And how many people do you think are more interested in the lousy money. And such a small amount at that, not that a million is worth more than a life. But how many could care less that the abortion bill is going to get through. ITs mind your own business, its nor our problem. Show me the money. This country is in bigger trouble than they think. If only more people could get through to these kids. Especially people who have been there. If they could just see that drugs of any kind are an instant high to get you deeper in that low thats to come.

If people on here only knew that not giving drugs the glory they do not deserve and telling the truth, could help others to not get there. But these People who persist to want it legal, let em get high, have no idea what that is doing.

I guess they have to wait till they have kids, and see the destruction first hand to say. Maybe if I could have thought differently I would not have to see my Child suffer. I’m not a fundamentalist as someone asked, but when it comes to defining sin, a religous person has to look to the text for at least an indication of what is sinful, IMO. I find nothing in theology that would suggest smoking pot is a sin. Perhaps an argument can be made that it results in damaging your health and we should not engage in activities that are harmful to ourselves.

if you read the thread, and you are familiar with Church teaching, and as a devout Catholic, care about what the Church teaches, then there is no way you can conclude that it is ok to use pot to get high -

if you are not a devout Catholic, do whatever you want. You are anyway. I am concerned about heaven, and the head of the CC is Jesus Himself. And he said it is wrong, through the Pope. Look it up min the catechism. It is a classified drug.

there are shadows of gray- if you know it was grown by yourself or a friend. But I know something about growing pot, and it isn’t easy to do- to get even a semi quality product. Of all the folks I know that smoke it, they buy it from a dealer. They do not know where the dealer gets it. 9 out 10 it is either mafia related and or came from a mexican cartel or both.

What are you missing here. If you take it because you are sick and its to help your through your illness its fine.’

But if its against the law, is that not a sin in itself? Do you not realize how many kids that are confused and are wondering what to do are reading this. Do you not realize that it could be you defending this drug (which is what it is, it is a drug) that could change the pattern that they are going to live their life? And I will let you know that you do not have to be young to get screwed up on your thinking with this.

My worst battle as a parent was to not only fight the drug, but the parents who said its cool for the kid to get stoned. Its not cool, and you know what when you are not stoned the stoned parents are not that funny. And its not real funny for the kid thats not stoned either being the outcast because no one wants little Jr riding with you Dad, because hes stoned. Think about that!

This is a Catholic Network that the Catholic Church does not permit drugs, and say thats its a sin. You should have seen ewtn the other day. Father was talking about it and he said that drugs are what leads us to bigger sin, Sex, drugs, etc. You cannot deny this.

I think it would be more accurate to say that you cannot get a spiritual effect from God by taking drugs so don’t bother. If you want a spiritual effect from God sit down in your room or outside somewhere alone or better yet in Church and pray. All you have to do is talk to God, He hears you.

I was shocked to see this topic in here to be honest. When it first started I posted the same thing you did, that children could be watching. I’m gonna pray for these folks!! ultimately, if they truly seek the Lord, he will reveal their folly.

I had a friend back in the day who was in the mafia. They sold pot- and many other drugs. I know for first hand how dangerous it is.I was also involved in a small drug ring-they ( and I) sold all sorts of drugs- marijuana was just the tip to this underworld as well as sex slaves and prostitution- and later I learned that they too were mafia related…we don’t like to think this exist in our own worlds, but it does. And my friends who buy pot- they don’t want to think or hear that the place their pot comes from supports these other criminal activities-but trust me, more than not, it does. You are the best thing that these kids that are thinking about it need to hear. A been there done that got the t-shirt kind of thing. You can be the voice to warn them. This is exactly why Marijuana should be legalized as well. Regulation is an issue that should certainly be addressed to protect the rights of those who use mj for appropriate and legitimate reasons, as well as citizens who do not use, but must deal with the repercussions.

As for children, maybe the topic is too mature as they may not be able to rationally think for themselves, but this is an important topic that perhaps NEEDS addressing as it is a very relevant subject in today’s society.

As far as the use of mj is concerned, I suggest that others not judge what they don’t fully understand or have little experience with(not directed towards anyone, just in general). As with many things, it can be used as a tool for good or bad. The way people use it is ultimately the deciding factor, as with many things in life, whether or not it is a sin.

Finally, to all the above posters claiming that mj use out-right is a sin, please realize you have your own OPINION and interpretations, as do others. No need to judge. If you believe differently, then pray that the truth come forth.
