Is it America's job to "run the world"?

This thread seems to have had a propensity to run off topic. The original heading is -Is it America’s job to run the world? An early poster identified himself as a liberal and that he/she was against Imperialism. Being against imperialism is not just a liberal thing. I am pretty much polar opposite from being a liberal, but as a conservative I certainly don’t lump myself in with neo-conservatives either. Neo-libs are pretty much 1st cousins with neo-cons with an ultimate goal of globalism. I am not a fan of globalism. I believe in military defense of one’s sovereignty. However, I am not for military or economic imperialism (the goals of one is usually hand-in-hand with the other.) So my short answer is -No, it is not America’s job to run the world.

This does sound like you are claiming people are more fascist now than say when Bill Clinton was also calling for a crack down on illegals.
I think that may well be the connection I missed. Thank you for pointing out what I did not see. But no, that is not at all what I was thinking. I had the topic in mind, that is America running the world. I did not think about immigration or the current rhetoric about Trump being a fascist at all. I know that for the garbage it is. Of course he is not going to turn us into a dictatorship, any more that Obama did (that too was said).

Rather above, the role of America in fight Communism took a turn too dark for Catholics to follow. We cannot become one evil to combat another evil.

Those words were written in the context of a majority white, Christian populace. They expected it to stay that way. We have failed to maintain their vision.

Good luck maintaining (Western) civilization without the only people capable of building and maintaining it. Zimbabwe is what our future looks like.

The standard of living has improved dramatically for the ‘poor’ in the US, generation after generation.
Is that why there are so many homeless on the streets begging for a few pennies so that they can get something to eat?

Not where I live.

Maybe you should lend a hand, grab them by the hand
and sign them up for a SNAP card.

I was specific about the poor in the US.
Don’t know what the situation is in the UK.

Yes, thats why i love Trump. We need to stop being the police in the world. Thats what we have the UN.

Actually, the Church is not against NK possessing nuclear weapons. It only instructs that nations should not, while in a state of war, possess weapons that can cause “evils and disorders” greater than the enemy’s. History is full of sad outcomes where a nation failed to “carry a big stick” while “walking softly”. I tend to think that America’s intolerance of others possessing nuclear weapons is the trade off of a lack of resolve to practice and use diplomacy. I guess they see it as a sign of weakness rather than a virtue. Typical “Powers” deja Vu down through antiquity. Now we will never know if NK’s president could have been persuaded to move on an arms deal.

Sometimes, they try and deflect away from this point because they know it’s true but don’t want the stigma attached of supporting a republican.

Because as you probably know, in the great secular society, offending people is worse than vacuuming a baby out.

Best thing we can do for homeless is tight jobs market, then this opioid crisis needs attention (LEO & services)

I would not call you a liberal idiot. The problem is more that you have an opinion, and only accept the facts which support it.

America was isolationist prior to WW2, and it had a fairly strong streak of that after WW2. Imperialism? I don’t know what history books you read, but that bovine excrement.

You may want to make heors of Fidel and Che; and a few of the boyos through Central America, but that is reading history as if the Communists were saviors of the world. They weren’t. They were simply a different form of dictatorship lead by the privileged few who had a political/economic view that has failed repeatedly.

North Korea hasn’t been invaded since the end of the Korean war. The last 20 years and three presidents have played nice-nice with an egomaniac and now his son, and they have not been building the bomb to protect themselves from the non-invasion. They have been building it as a means of blackmail to achieve their own ends. They have South Korea as a world economic powerhouse; and Japan with a lesser powerhouse but with old but not forgotten wrongs from before WW2. With a far faster development both of atomic weapons and a delivery system than was repeatedly projected, they could shortly, within a matter of a few years if not sooner, beable to bring the majority of the US to a complete and absolute standstill with 2 EMP detonations. They are a threat to both Russia and China who fear massive influx of refugees; and yet both powers benefit from chaos being caused by N Korea.

Yep.

Thank Governor Moon Beam of California for that travesty. That’s liberal policy at its finest, forgive the irony.

Same thing is happening in Seattle-Tacoma.

Are you suggesting that only white people can build it? I could be mistaken. I hope i am.

That is what was said.

I find this lack of charity appalling.

Manifest Destiny
Mexican American War
Spanish-American War
Vietnam War

Currently, this is the footprint of the US military in the world.

Where in the World Is the U.S. Military?

Matthew 7:5

The old joke about free speech in the Soviet Union: “We have freedom of speech,” said the American, “I can come to the fence of the White House and say: ‘Down with Reagan, he is no good.’ The Soviet man replies: ‘It’s the same here. I can come to Red Square and say: ‘Down with Reagan, he is no good.’”

It seems that today’s Russia is a gradual resurrection of the Soviet era, including that same freedom of speech.

by the way , this fearless north caucasian soldier is arrested in Russia. According to Alikbekov’s relatives , he was approached by four men in civilian clothes provoked him and detained.
Before that, Alibekov received the mandate of the observer and had planned to take part in monitoring the presidential elections on March 18.
Earlier as we see Alibekov in his video on YouTube has openly declared that on Donbass are dying young Russian soldiers who fight against brother’s nation Ukraine.

I feel compelled to point this out, and I’ll use the Air Force as an example.

A US military base in a foreign country is NOT sovereign US soil. There’s a reason US Air Force bases overseas are called Air Bases and not Air Force Bases (Osan Air Base, South Korea; Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Yokota Air Base, Japan as examples, compared to Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota; Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina; Tinker Air Force Base , Oklahoma, as examples). If the sovereign nation asks us to leave, we leave (Prince Sultan Air Base is a good example; once Saddam Hussein was deposed, we were asked to pull combatants out of the Kingdom, and we did). We are their at their whim. We’re not occupiers, not in that regard.
