I fail to see the connection that you are saying exists here. We are not talking about hating people. We are talking about hating this world for what it can be. People now a day, do not think of God in general. God is something a lot of folks hear of but don’t live in communion with. That is why we have abortion, murder etc. It is the sins of people who no longer value God and His rightful place in our lives. Can you imagine the pain that He feels when these senseless atrocities continue over and over with more malice than before? We as His people are chanllenged daily on how to change this blantant disregard of Him who gave us life out of nothingness. It is easy to say that we love this life, I just want to know how anyone can love this life with the state it is in?

I think we have to continue to spread the love of neighbor and God and to stay steadfast in our convictions. We are called to be the best we can be with God as our armour and our sheild.

Those who find “joy” in the ways of this world will not find “joy” in the next. We are a fickle people, humans by nature seem to be. Those not centered in and with God are the ones who tend to accumlate material possessions and guard them fircerely. They are happy here. What can they do for God? They spend their time guarding there material possessions. People who do not have prayer in their lives are not speaking to God. They have what they need now, but what’s next for them? In every instance of life, you can make a connection about the lack of God here. It is up to us to change what we can. Again that goes with Loving the sinner, but not the sin.

I think that Jesus was saying if you do not tend to your soul ferevntly, your chances of recieving eternal rewards are nil. While we are here on this miserable little planet, we are our brother’s keeper. This earth was not supposed to be paradise. It is a stepping stone to the greatest gift of all–Heaven!

There are few coincidences.

My pastor’s homily just today stated that the created world is not evil, that it is in fact a gift from God, and that as Catholics we have a sacred duty to honor that gift by bringing the message of Christ to the multitudes.

Ignorance and self-interpretation of Biblical verses is not Catholic. And why is no one able to answer why we bother to protest the murder of the unborn and the infirm if life is something to be hated?

“Whatever you have done for the least of these you have done for me.”

I haven’t been clear enough I suppose. I hate this world for what humans have made it. I don’t relish life on this planet because too many people no longer care about God or His Will. They do not care about being stewards of this magnificent planet. They would rather go out in the name of greed and all else that’s evil and commit offenses against God Almighty! I can only change what the Holy Spirit gives me the power to do.

It is stated that this is satan’s world and God’s people are the ones to save who and what they can. We are stewards of each other and of the planet itself. I despise that everytime the news comes on or you hear the radio or tv, that someone is killing, stealing, fighting etc. There is not much good on the media circuit. I never intended to say I hate this world because of life. That is ludicrious. I hate the overabundance of sin.

As far as abortion, euthansia, terrorists, and even people committing sucide, if I have the opportunity to stop it I will!!! And I do.

I am NOT a life hater. I AM a sin hater. It pains me to know that we were given a special place and we are blowing it.

As for my own death. I will be joyous at death because the Lord promised no more tears or pain or sin. Only sharing in His glory forever and ever. How can you not want that? How can you not desire that? Or do you want to stay in this life always?

By ‘valley of tears’ I would think that the tears would be sin, and of course this life is full of sin. And, while I hate sin, I don’t hate the place where the sin resides. By doing that I would also have to hate people and I know that is not God’s will. We are prisoners in the sense that we cannot leave to be with our Master until He calls us. . . . Everyone longs to be in heaven with their Creator whether they realize it or not. But this does not mean that we should hate the world. To hate this life would be to encourage things like murder, abortion, suicide, etc.
The earth is nothing compared to heaven. But, hey, it’s better than hell!

Can you answer me why we bother to protect the unborn and infirm?

God gives us the mystery of free will to reject and hate this gift of the wonderful, created world and our individual lives.

hate sin like God hates sin and stand for truth and expose the lies, repent or you will perish, call on the name above all names, Jesus and you will be saved.

Can you answer me without quoting this prayer, wonderful as it is?

If the gift of life is to be hated, as we use the term today, why protect the unborn or infirm? Why feed the poor? Why not just let them die and go to God?

Creation is good. Worship the One who created it.
 
Hello everyone!

I read Pope John Paul II’s Salvifici Doloris (On the meaning of Human Suffering) yesterday. John Pual mentions how death is often awaited as liberation of suffering. This is not necessarily bad for anyone. It is what we all must do in our journey–too die. It becomes bad when it is all you think about and all you desire.

Sailor you have asked repeatedly about the various forms of murder that go on in this world. Agian I stress that we are very much accountable to stop these atrocities. We are steawrds of each other by Jesus’ greatest Commandment. If we fail to work against these terails of death, we are going to be accountable to the Just Judge on our judgement day. We are to fight and change what we can and have the wisdom to know the difference when we can’t. We are charged to protect LIFE even unto death. It is an obligation not to be taken lightly or ignored. That is why we fight for anything that is against the Ten Commandments. It is not just death to innocents, it is bribery, theft, scandalous behaviors, racism, terrroism, abortion, euthansia, murder, slander, inhuman treatment of peoples etc…

We are here to suffer to complete Jesus’ afflictions on the Cross. Our salvation is tied to the Cross. If we have no regard for this then we are lost.

This brings us back to the original post. If we love this life to much will we lose the next. How can it be anything but Yes! If we are not suffering here, we will suffer later. Now I don’t think that is too implausible, do you?

This mistaken notion of an admittedly challenging passage in the Bible arises from a lack of scholarly knowledge of such terms as used by the Bible. I’m not interpreting this on my own, but relying on the interpretation of scholarly priests.

It is wrong to hate any gift of God and it is heretical thinking to believe that the created world is evil.

Your arguments are invalid since the world is full of sinful evil. Satan is real and he prowls the world devouring all the souls that he can. Satan has corrupted this world since the downfall of Adam and Eve. This life is not to be loved.

Hello Sailor ! I totally and absolutely agree with you-As I have stated(about a hundred times before) that they meaning of 'hating one’s life is different that we who speak and understand English would understand.“hating " in this this and many scriptures means to love less. LOVE LESS-not despise it or regret it-. indeed to hate any gift from God is heresy-God cannot create evil- it is not In His nature. these things that people say make life not worth living are not modern but are part of the human condition and have been there since the beginning of time.First sin outside of the Garden- murder of a brother.o there is nothing new under the sun. we only know more what is happening in the world because of media.To some- that’s gloom and doom. To me this is an advantage.To have knowledge and know what evils are in the world is to have an advantage over evil.For evil can not by it’s very nature know good.With knowledge we can fight and witness against it.If we throw our hands up in the air and abandon our role as healers, as witnesses to God’s love and the joy he brings us-then we are abandoning Him.god did not makes us to be slapped down and crushed by the world but to overcome it. If you walk around with doom and gloom and sorrow in your heart what kind of witness to Christ are you? would you want to join a religion without joy or happiness? Happiness and joy that can be had on this mortal plain( not as great as the Beatific vision, of course)through feeling the warmth of the Love of God!By being united with Him in prayer and the Eucharist. You can quote prayers and scripture but your interpretation is skewed .but i know this will fall on deaf ears- this is strictly a thread about justifying one’s dark view of the world without really wanting to do anything about it but give up, of wallowing in depression and making it an act of piety instead seeing it for what it is- desperation- an illness.
i have experienced much of what is written here but I remember Paul in 2Ti.4” I have fought the good fight- I have finished the race".

While searching for another Scrpture, I found a cross refernce for this verse we have been debating. Seen in this context this changes how we should interpet the verse:

Matthew 10 37-39

The conditions of discipleship.

“Whosoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Verses 40-42 give the rewards for those who follow the conditions.

To me then, it is about centering God in your life above all thing in this world. That is practicing the commandment as well as fostering all the Virtues. It is not about hating life at all. It is about putting God first and foremost. I knew there was more to this and I am glad I found it.

Luke 12:46

26"If anyone comes to Me, and does not HATE his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.

🤷 Is Jesus telling us to break one of the 10 commandments by hating our father and mother? Absolutely not. We must understand that the word “hate” is not being used the same way we commonly use hate. It is often used to mean to love less. In the above case, Christ is asking us to make God first in our lives, He must be our first love. That means that all other loves must “play second fiddle” to that love for God, including the love we have for our parents. To hate our lives means to have God - not ourselves - as the Lord of our hearts and center of our existence.

Thanks. At least one person in this thread ‘gets it.’

The Israelis wandered 40 years in the desert complaining. However long I have (and even though I do at times whine when I shouldn’t) I refuse to believe the created world is evil.

That is heresy.

And yes, we are to honor our father and mother. There’s that word ‘hate’ again in Scripture, and seeming contradiction, when really there is none.

That’s why we NEED the Magisterium.

Evil has always been with us, but that does not render the created matter evil in the least.

God created the world good. What is evil is the sin and corruption of the world - not the world (which is good).
