Is it wrong to get into guns?

As you doing with my post, i only mentioned that “Peter wasn’t a criminal and still he was told this quote by Jesus”.

Peter is never mentioned in the bible to have used the sword again.

As to answer your question if i feel that there isn’t any place for gun in society. Please read my other replies and you will see what i stand for and i am not against by any mean to protect our self. But again there are many ways to protect our self. Just read my other replies.

Guns can be seen a cool thing to own or have but, i think it is important to reevaluate our intention. I do feel that many get paranoid and having a gun is not the only way.

Anyway, we can argue and bring both great argument for either we should have a gun or not but i think what it should come down, is to do God’s will. All advance religious or spiritual person, typically never make a decision before prayer. Mother Teresa by all mean lived in such a dangerous place that owning a gun could have been justification for her but she went with different protection and faith. Again, not everyone has faith as her and after prayer if it feels right to have an additional protection, they should follow what feels right to them.

Hope this answer your question. All the best!
Yes it does answer my question but it doesn’t change my mind. If I were in a burning room, I would pray after I used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out just as I would pray after using every other means of self defense available to me. Mother Teresa had only her life to loose, I have mine and my family’s and I’m sure my faith is weaker then hers. Thanks Chantal and God Bless

I would also use any fire extinguisher available while praying in my mind (i am multi-task person, loll…) I am not sure why you think that i argue with you in this matter, but anyway, we seem to agree on this.

God bless you too!

Sometimes women and children are raped and killed while the husband who didn’t have a gun to defend his family is forced to watch. I’ll take my chances picking strawberries.
You are far more likely to find out that your teen has committed suicide with the gun you keep around for his safety than to ever see his mother raped in front of you because you didn’t buy it. Go ahead, buy the gun to protect your family, but please tell me that you are just as intent that you will protect them from the protection you’ve procured.

I’m not against gun ownership, we have guns in our house, but sometimes I am aghast at how little responsibility gun owners think they take on by owning one. The gun gets stolen by a stranger and is used in crimes or, like happened at Clackamas Town Center, is stolen by a friend for a murder-suicide…"…it wasn’t my responsibility. It was stolen." I have news: a gun isn’t a diamond ring. It is a dangerous weapon that requires diligence to be kept safe. You own it, it is your responsibility to make sure that no one ever misuses it, just as if you had trained an attack dog or kept a captive tiger in your back yard or dynamite and blasting caps in your basement. If you know what you’re doing and you are diligent about keeping your firearms from those who might misuse them, have at it. Most people who carry a firearm, the police included, do so in the hope that they will never hurt anyone with it. Don’t pretend, however, that you don’t know that a gun is a tool made for killing, or that it is an attractive target for thieves who are quite willing to hurt or kill someone in order to get it and keep it. If you’re willing to own a gun, then step up to the plate and accept what that puts on you. Don’t pretend you don’t know that that a gun is an especially attractive target for any would-be suicide victim, too, a victim that might be someone you love, trust, and think that you know.

I hope that describes you to a T. If it doesn’t, though, think about that. If you brought a tiger into your home to deter thieves, I’m doubting a thief who knew you had a tiger roaming around would bother you. I’m sure you would think about how to keep your family safe from their “protector” at all times, though, because tragedy would be only one careless moment away. Why not think the same way if you keep guns?

But again there are many ways to protect our self. Just read my other replies.
Alternatives are meaningless unless they’ve been honed to match the efficiency of a firearm. And yes, there are ways but frankly that just makes your argument moot. It’s like asking why not smack a thief in the head with a pipe instead of a gun? My only answer would be that the martial art aspect required would make it fun. 8P

It doesn’t change the fact that a skull-breaking concussion is hardly any better than a gunshot wound.

Why another mean to protect yourself must be killing someone or injuring him badly to the point to brake his bone? Wouldn’t most people prefer not to have to encounter these people that can do your harm if this is possible?

There are plenty of alternative that will avoid trouble (not having a wicked person in your home and other precaution. Alarm (can get the police in your place in no time), dog, a code with your neighbor, etc… For women pepper spray etc…Self defense course (probably much more economical then a course to use a gun, license, and the purchase of it). I am sure if you pray, you will have many creative way to protect yourself not to count the power of prayer.

If you have money to own a gun, you have money to use other precaution. If your gun is lock, you won’t be able to use it if you are attack by surprise, if you have an advance alarm system, you can have the police come in your house in no time.

Prevention is without question a good thing to consider such not walking alone, keep your curtain close at night, don’t go in dangerous place etc…

Because of the many things that had happened in my life, i know without a doubt that i am in good hand with Mother Mary and prayer do indeed work. She can squeeze any demon with her feet. Aren’t those dark being that inspire others to do arm to others?

Hope your reconsider to use alternative to protect yourself without involvement of death or tragic injuries.

Blessings!

If your teen commits suicide I doubt its because you own a firearm.

This is one point but it is certainly makes it easy for them to do so.

If they have obstacle they may have time to think about this more, but if the gun is right there, you can just grab it and do it when you are depress and in great despair.

If you have any child with depression symptom, you should never have a gun in the house in the first place.

Also, not to count the many boys that are curious about this gun and will accidentally shot themselves or someone else.

One word: It’s efficient.
Wouldn’t most people prefer not to have to encounter these people that can do your harm if this is possible?
Again, one word: Inefficient.
There are plenty of alternative that will avoid trouble (not having a wicked person in your home and other precaution.
If you’re still reading my response and fail to grasp the simple concept between the words I cited above, I repeat: I prefer efficiency… with style.

I don’t have a gun. I’m no gun nut. But when it comes to any kind of fight, virtual or real, I get tired of thinking too much. Its dangerous for me (like how a computer freezes during a critical time at work). Hence, better to magnify simple actions like pulling a trigger or hitting a soft spot.
Alarm (can get the police in your place in no time)
I live in a country where police can’t even handle a hostage crisis without losing all the hostages.
, dog, a code with your neighbor, etc…
Right, trust my neighbor (who is a total stranger) with my safety. Dog’s not bad though but I’m no animal whisperer. It’d be amusing to see one ask Fido to tear burglars a new one. 👍
For women pepper spray etc…Self defense course (probably much more economical then a course to use a gun, license, and the purchase of it).
… you are aware that several martial arts can be arguably more lethal than a bullet right? I don’t need a black belt to know that ninjutsu has a technique to stop my heart.
Aren’t those dark being that inspire others to do arm to others?
The devil doesn’t always make 'em do it.
Hope your reconsider to use alternative to protect yourself without involvement of death or tragic injuries.
I’ve had pretty tragic injuries myself. You should try them. Pain can be a nice way to learn a lesson and to reduce repeat errors. One of them is to use only what works. 👍

Lost Wondered. It is sad that you lost faith in God this way, sorry for all the tragedy that happened to you that led you to feel that you can only take matter in your own hand.

All the best to you!

How many minutes are in “no time?” I have an alarm. The alarm must go off for 30 seconds before they respond. The alarm company responds by calling you. IF they don’t get an answer (my machine will pick up after 4 rings), then they call the police. The average police response time? 11 minutes but only if it is a “priority call.”
A dog might bark and alert you to an intruder, but unless you train a dog as an attack dog it isn’t any different than an alarm. Other than that the dog isn’t going to call the cops.
a code with your neighbor, etc…
A code with your neighbor? What do you mean? Instead of calling the cops, call your neighbor so they can call the cops?? That will take even more time.
For women pepper spray etc…
Pepper spray? Do you really want the intruder that close to you? And you know with pepper spray, you will end up with it too?
Self defense course (probably much more economical then a course to use a gun, license, and the purchase of it).
Try it. I have. I feel much safer with a weapon.
I am sure if you pray, you will have many creative way to protect yourself not to count the power of prayer.

My gun isn’t locked up. And I have already explained there there is at least 12 minutes in “no time.”
Prevention is without question a good thing to consider such not walking alone, keep your curtain close at night, don’t go in dangerous place etc…
And if you have to walk alone? Go somewhere at night? What do you do?

You might also want to consider that bad things happen in good neighborhoods.
Because of the many things that had happened in my life, i know without a doubt that i am in good hand with Mother Mary and prayer do indeed work. She can squeeze any demon with her feet. Aren’t those dark being that inspire others to do arm to others?

Nope. I won’t. But if you want to rely on the police to protect you, that is an option open to you.

I my old house, i use to have a simple alarm with a speaker. I had a panic button which connecter the speaker directly to the police or agent as my choice.

Anyway, if someone wants to justify their choice to own a gun, nothing i can say to dissuade them but the one that wonder if this is the only venue, then they know that have other options.

I lived in different places and some more critical then others but i have always been safe and protected by using common sense. I made sacrifice to own a car so at night i wouldn’t have to take the bus when i was done my with my work. God provides for the animals, how much more for our needs. When i had no money to buy food, someone out of nowhere would buy me grocery. They never knew i was tight, they just felt like doing it or someone else would give me their fruits or another one invite me for diner. I tell you, i never was one day without food to eat. When my car would brake down, the month previously, i would make extra commission with selling insurance and this money coincidentally was the amount i needed to fix the car.

I always had faith in God but as any normal human, i do use mean to protect myself. If i would feel strongly in my heart, that i need to have a gun, then i would have one. So far, i haven’t and i have been protected.

Blessings!

Firearms are morally neutral and can be used for a myriad of morally neutral or even good reasons. I think plenty of people have touched on the relative wisdom of having them in the house and the precautions that must be taken if one chooses to own them.

I’m a strong supporter of the second Amendment. I’m fine with people owning howitzers, fully-automatic rifles and grenades… even though that’s not actually legal. Heck, if you want your own tank so you can get your local (law abiding, not secessionist!) militia up to speed, do it. I like to think of myself as a crack shot when I go to trap/sporting clay ranges.

I do not own a firearm. I do not think it is the wisest way for me to keep my family safe. We live in a safe city with a grand total of 1-2 homicides a year. Far, far more people are killed in auto accidents and gun mishaps in my area than are murdered.

Robberies are uncommon. Burglaries of occupied dwellings are rare. I am not really concerned my family will be home if someone breaks in. It is far more likely that we will be burglarized when we are not home or someone will try to steal things from cars parked outside.

With young children in my house and my not coming from a gun-owning household, I think it is more likely that someone will be accidentally injured or killed if we have a gun compared to my using that gun to defend our family.

That said, I’ve got a metal softball bat under the bed and my wife has pepper spray. I spent my college years training in mixed martial arts. I am confident that I could handle someone breaking into my house provided that he is unarmed. And I wouldn’t want to get into a shootout if he WAS armed and so was I. I’d much rather him take my stuff. I don’t have a ton of things people would want to steal anyway.

Some day if I move out into the country, sure I might get a shotgun. But that would be more for warding off animal intruders like bears.

If others want to own one gun or an assortment of them, that’s cool with me. Buy an entire arsenal of them. No problem.

Just a) be safe with them and b) don’t fall into the mentality that the world is going to hell and the only way you can protect your family is through buying a ton of guns. That kind of apocalyptic thinking is extremely dangerous.

My son IS the police and he admits his average responds time is 14 minutes. It only took Lanza 5 minutes to take 26 lives in the Connecticut shooting. He says pepper spray is to protect you from dogs. He’s gotten sprayed with pepper spray as part of his training and it won’t work on someone intent on doing you harm. A neighbor down the street had a dog capable of fending off an intruder but he had to have it put down after it caused much damage to his next door neighbors three year old daughter. My son, the police, says you are your own first line of defense and if you believe prayer will stop a violent criminal, then by all means, use it. He, like most other citizens, will use a gun.

Do you have a plastic bag in your home? A bottle of acetaminophen? Have you ever been depressed? How did you live through it?

Rope? A a knife? A tub? An electrical outlet? A gas stove? A car in the garage? Live in a tall building?

If someone is intent on committing suicide, they will do it. Having or not having a gun will not dissuade them.

My prime motivation is to protect my family at home.
I think this is your moral responsibility. You cannot protect them effectively with a knife or a stick, so it is good for you to begin learning how to use firearms.

Agreed

I am not sure why you don’t feel that it matter to put away your gun or get rid of it if your child is depress especially for young man? Read statistic, it should answer your question.

Gun are fast and effective, the rest is more planning. Sometime, people can have these little moments where they can reconsider doing arm to themselves.

If gun would be illegal like my country, perhaps this young man wouldn’t have been able in the first place to have a gun. This incident happened in a public place where anyone has access. Your home is lock at night.

This is another reason why it would be much safer for people if this rule of gun control would apply. No offense but we hear more about member of family killing their own then a wicked man breaking in your home and killing others.

There are too much paranoia. The problem isn’t for us not having a gun but disconnecting completely from what matter God peace and his will. I sound like an evangelist but i watched EWTN about the sacred heart of Jesus and the promises that it brings. It made me realize how much it would be simple to live in a peaceful Country.

Anyway, we can evaluate everything from our human perspective which we will have to deal with their consequences or turn to prayer.

Blessings!
