Is Jesus a feminist?

How come? The woman needs to be submissive right? If the husband seemingly does things for the good of the wife but clearly in total disregard for her own will, what’s to be done about it?

That’s what we have here in Spain, but it’s a democracy. They’re not mutually exclusive like absolute monarchy would be

There is a difference between submission and dominance. Let’s say your situation is right. My husband orders me about everything. He decides what I wear, who I see, when I can leave the house, that I have to get plastic surgery, that we have sex whenever he wants even when I’m sick, etc.

Before I go into this, this situation, while it happens in occasion even in secular marriages where the spouses are supposed to be “equal”, this is incredibly unlikely. One generally dates for years before marrying. I would know him well enough to know what his expectations of me would be. That’s why there is dating and a mandatory 6 months of discerning before the wedding.

If he treated me that way, I’d ask for an annulment. He clearly had no idea what marriage is if he thought it would make me his maid-servant and sex slave. If I couldn’t get the annulment, I would leave and live separately from him, at the bare minimum get a civil divorce and restraining order. I would not remarry, but I would stay away from him.

Here in Britain too. But I think there should be limits on who can vote, and representatives should be based on corporatism not geographical area.

Okay, so at least on some level we agree. Let me ask you: when you talk of submission to husbands, how much power over a wife is acceptable?

I think that’s an idea worth considering, but dare to mention that in parliament and fascist is probably among the kindest things they’ll call you

Here in Spain, we’re literally obsessed with calling people fascist, we still carry the stigma of having lived under a far right dictatorship like there’s something to make up for

In emergencies and huge decisions. For example, say our house is broken into. My husband is supposed to be the protector of my family. He can’t do his job if I put myself in the way of his duties. So, he should be able to say to me, “Stay in our room or with the kids, while I go out there” without us getting into an argument about it. But, when it comes to smaller things, like what to watch on TV, the menu for dinner, did Han Solo or Guido shoot first (😛), we have equal footing. Except maybe on that last one. Han shot first. 😛

On the other hand, I have more power when it comes to raising the children. My job is to be their caretaker. Of course he has a say in raising them, but when it comes to my duties as their caretaker, my decisions rule supreme.

Look, I agree with you, I do. But I just don’t feel comfortable having authority over my wife, that’s just who I am.

That’s fine. But then you’re not advocating wife submission to husbands, but assigning priorities to each spouse where each has the final say in their “department”, so to speak. Under those terms, i’d consider marrying you😜

Not only did Han shoot first, he was the ONLY ONE who shot!

To quote a comedy movie, the husband may be the head but the woman is the neck. Yes he’s the final say the neck knows how to turn a head.

Well, I still would say I’m advocating for a wife to be submissive. He’s still the head of the household. Modern society would like to paint Catholic marriage as a woman being a slave to her husband. I will still submit to his will, since that’s what Christ asks me to do. But, I’m not marrying him so I can do whatever he wants. I’m marrying him to make him and me holier. We will work towards salvation together, sacrificing ourselves along the way for the betterment of the other. Because my submission to him makes me more humble. If I can submit to an imperfect man like my husband, how much more can I submit to Christ, the perfect man?

Yeah Franco saved Spain from communism and the thanks he gets is being labeled a fascist. Outsider perspective that doesn’t mean much, but I think y’all would have been much worse off without him than you were with him.

Okay, than if my wife shows submissive behavior to me, I’ll also behave submissively to her.

I agree, a republican victory would have probably turned Spain into a Soviet satellite. I don’t love Franco though, he committed crimes that go against Christian teaching, but I think he was a little bit the lesser evil in this scenario
