Is President Trump pro-life/pro-choice

Yes, but he wouldn’t have run as a Republican if he did not truly adhere to conservative principles. He could just as easily have run as a democrat and still probably would have won the presidency - or at least the nomination - because of his fame and wealth.

They impliedly support his adversaries. Do you think, say, Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden - Catholics who repeatedly get rave reviews from NARAL - are superior to him
That’s actually an incorrect and unproven assumption.

Most of what I listed are objective, publicly known facts… not sure what you mean by opinion. “The other guy is worse” is also a very poor offence, especially in a Catholic context.

I’m sorry, it’s ironic how on the one hand you condemn most politicians, yet one post down you talk about me making unproven assumptions.

My strong surmise is that most posters on this site do not personally know a single politician by name, outside maybe one’s own mayor (and even that I doubt), such that anyone is in a position to call them unprincipled.

Sorry, I respectfully disagree that you have offered facts. They certainly aren’t proven or verifiable.

We can, and sometimes must, judge the public words and actions of public persons.
I am a sinner… so because I’m a sinner, I must disregard Mr. Trump’s public sins and get behind him? Don’t get the logic there
We must privately judge, in deciding to “get behind” public persons

We need not publicly judge , in deciding to “get behind”

But you did it again, so either we both have a point or we don’t.

President Trump has considered himself as ‘pro-choice in every respect’ and I see in the www that now he considers that ‘abortion should be banned at some point in pregnancy, with exceptions for rape, incest or life of the mother’. He believes abortion should be banned except when it is allowed. I also see ‘In 2011 he explained to the Christian Broadcasting Network that he had changed his mind on the issue. In “The America We Deserve,” Trump then wrote that he supported a woman’s right to choose.’

But does anyone trust Mr Trump? Has he been known to lie, be economical with the truth or use ‘terminological inexactitutes’.

As an Irish Catholic I would not believe anything he says. I do not consider him, in spite of my tolerant, non-judgmental Christian attitude, a person of integrity.

I suspect his current pro-life stand is a negotiating ploy to gain votes, but I may be wrong. This is why I am posting this. What do you think?
in short

He WAS pro choice… the operative word is WAS.

However

He changed. He is pro life, Thank God

It’s NOT just a said change for him for political reasons. All his judges he has appointed so far are all pro life judges. Particularly, the 2 new Supreme Ct judges he appointed, AND THAT has the democrats heads exploding… Democrats have made this a particular running point on why they need to defeat 'Trump

All I see from Trump so far is, Promises made, promises kept.

Another example of his pro life efforts

He didn’t fund the Mexico City Policy. Which is a yearly expense, supported by executive order, to fund or NOT fund, with taxpayer money, $500 million/yr for global abortion funding.

No president to date, i.e. none of the previous 44 presidents has been sooooo pro life in action as Trump.

Re: party platform positions on the issues

Here is the platform position for each party on abortion

Republican Democratic Party on the Issues
Democrat Democratic Party on the Issues

SO

When the choice is between life and death blessings and curses, we are to choose life Dt 30: 19

Given that clear difference between the 2 parties, on life, Catholics who ignore that, or in spite of that, vote Democrat anyway, will as [DT 30:19] says, will not fare well with God

First and only POTUS to speak at March For Life
Does speaking at the March for Life prove he is genuinely pro-life?
He is whatever it is expedient to be.
So true. This sums up the issue.
Here’s my question for you, OP: Why do you care, and why are you here asking us ‘what we think’ about a stranger’s private beliefs re: pro-choice/pro-life? Literally, why do you (and why should we) care what a politician thinks on the inside, so long as their actions on the outside have positive results?
Very good question, as politicians say when they do not have an answer. A more fundamental question is why does an Irish person think he may interfere in the politics of a foreign country.

The reason is the POTUS was the leader of the free world and the US was seen as a beacon of freedom and integrity. It was a Wasp/Puritan country
'O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness.
I think he would do anything or say anything to stay in office.
I disagree. If he were to lose a few dollars he would be out in the morning.
Most major politicians aren’t (honest)
Again I disagree. Most US residents were honest, perhaps especially Lincoln, Truman and Carter.

Thanks for all contributors here. Again this thread is CAF at its best. Replies are robust respectful and varied.

I had thought CAF was almost totally dominated by white conservative, mainly male, Catholics, but this thread has shown that there are also progressive forward-looking contributors, who seem to be faithful Catholics. Thank God.

his speaking would obviously create a lot of votes.
It may., but I don’t know if it would get him many more than doing what others have done. Most people who pro life is the primary issue for would likely vote for him anyway - and they are the only potential votes I see it getting him.

This is stated many times.

I’m working through the statements of all the judges, here are the top two:

B Kavanaugh

Do you have a direct statement from Judge Kavanaugh that he will overturn RvW or any settled law wrt abortion? This answer went in circles and never gave a yes or no answer. It seems he used Mr Gorsuch’s statement to frame his own.

Mr Gorsuch: I recommend his scholarly book on euthanasia. Brilliant.

Interesting quotes in Mother Jones from Phyllis Schlafly:

Working on the rest.

Trump may or may not be as pro-life as he claims to be, but he is the most pro-life out of all the presidential candidates, who support abortion up to birth for any reason. Did you hear his speech at the March for Life? He seemed sincere in wanting to save unborn babies. 🙂

According to Chief Justice Roberts, who’s a practicing Catholic, it is highly unlikely that Roe v Wade will ever be fully eliminated as it’s been a part of our “rule of law” for decades now, plus there’s no consensus by the public to have it fully removed. However, it could be and may be adjusted over time, he said.
