Former APA president: gays aren’t born that way, change is possible

Like I have been?
Sure. Why end on a passive-aggressive note. If you feel his point wasn’t valid, point out an argument to the contrary. In a forum, we should be able to state opinions and assert facts. If you have a different opinion, offer it. If you feel his facts are lacking, ask for documentation or provide it to the contrary.

Not to mention one that has been used historically to some pretty horrific ends.

How about you stop micromanaging my posts?
I’m not. I’m pointing out bad discussion etiquette, as you are with mine, right now. You made a snarky remark about his post, and I made a critical observation of yours (a.k.a. glass houses and black kettles). My second post was a direct answer to your question. You shouldn’t ask a question, get a response, and then get upset that you got a response.

If a person has unwanted same sex attraction, should they be able to seek change and therapy?

Is transgenderism a mental disease?
Probably not an accurate medical diagnosis of the problem.
Might be more accurate to call it hysteria. Or a cult.

Transgenderism is not much different than flat earthing or earthocentrism. It is simply ignorant of revealed nature.

As you can see from the answers to this thread, “disease” is an emotionally charged and slippery concept…
FWIW, it took me almost 1 year on CAF to be able to wrap my head around the concept. It’s a very tough issue, and today I don’t align myself with anything against LGBT but I also don’t align myself with false gender-ideology arguments.

The main fact is this: There are persons, human beings, affected and struggling with these issues in their lives. And I don’t care to call it anything, I choose to care for those persons.

No one is “transgender,” any more than anyone is “gay.”
Here’s a definition of “gay” from Merriam-Webster:
gay
adjective
4 a : of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex: homosexual
If you prefer a different word besides “gay,” that’s OK. You could, for example, use the term used in many Catholic documents, i.e. “homosexual person”. But no one can deny that there are people who are “characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex”.

There’s nothing stopping adults from doing so. Most laws that ban “reparative therapy,” apply to children, not adults.
Isn’t it odd, that the status quo approves of young children exploring alternative sexual identities (and this obviously requires the “cooperation” of their parents), yet therapies that propose common sense are taboo.

That strikes me as oddly biased and closed minded.

It’s like a child having a right to believe in a flat earth, and a common sense science teacher being told “hands off”.

Hey @Thorolfr I’ll just leave a brief note because it’s noteworthy:

Two days ago the next Brazilian president was sworn into office. He actually finished his speech by saying he is going to oppose gender ideology…

What is noteworthy here is the historical importance of LGBT in Brazil, where it is common. It seems, the now president doesn’t oppose anything LGBT in itself, only the ideology discourse (he draws plenty of support from being anti-ideology, he also made it a point he was going to be anti-Marxist during his tenure.)
