I understand, but to deny established and factual history is living a lie. How sad to be so intellectually stunted. If a person ascribes to that, then how much more fallible they are in matters of faith. They truly do need prayers.

This comment just goes to show a couple of things:

1, lack of knowledge.
2, Non-catholics revert to this saying when they usually don’t have any more arguments to put forward. Quite weak actually. They try to use inflamatory comments to divert the attention away from their own weakness.

They have been taught that the name “Catholic” poisons faith; that it is a man-made faith, full of idolatry and pagan holidays that were adopted once the “Romans” took over. Many such faith communities maintain that, somehow, their founder received a revelation telling him to “reform” or “restore” the faith. And, yes, it requires a profound ignorance or revision of history.

I know that not all Protestants feel this way, for those few who do fall into this category, if they only applied their passion to seeking the truth they would come away with a different perspective. I am a convert myself, and was anti-Catholic. The anti-Catholic falsehoods were taught in the adult Sunday schools by untrained individules and from the pulpit. Not to mention Faith alone, Scripture alone, and OSAS. As I said in another post, thank God I saw the light, it also helped to marry a good Catholic girl!!!

To start all good Catholic were going to hell, that we worshiped idols, prayed to false deities, made up stuff contrary to Sacred Scripture. Even my sister (Pentecostal) to this day thinks this.

let’s suppose you murder 100 people, never go to church another day in your life, and intentionally and stubbornly refuse to ask for forgiveness for the murders (including refusing the opportunity to repent on your deathbed). where do you spend eternity?

Thanks, I do often and it ticks her off. Another note is that from 17 to 25 years old I basically lived in a spiritual wasteland. As I said earlier I married a good catholic girl and this was the turn around in my life, Spiritually and everything else. Who says women do not have a place in the Church. I think that bringing someone back to God and the fullness of truth is a very noble thing. Funny thing is today I was reading from Pope Benedict’s book Jesus of Nazareth and the story of the Prodigal Son. very insightful.

Funny you mention your wife brought you back, mine did to! i was a “catholic” all my life but never really practised it.

she introduced me to it and i had my first confession and haven’t looked back since!

Well pray for your sister without her knowing about it, then she won’t get upset.

no one ever remembers THOSE words it seems…

John 3;16… that’s the one people know… as if that is all they need to know…

its like peple don’t wnat to realize that God is HOLY, absolutely holy … don’t want to (another neglected scirpture) realize that no impure thing w ill enter Heaven… (Rev 21:27)…

how many of us is perfeclty pure???

I agree they always seem to forget this, i just don’t get how they can accept the faith alone argument. It just doesn’t work!

The Lord also sent me a Catholic girl, after raising me with a Catholic best friend and then building a PARISH across the street! Talk about being slow on the uptake! :doh2:

Yes, it is but a fringe of Protestants that receive such deception in their teaching. However, they also tend to be the most vocal about it. On the other end of the spectrum, I have found Methodists to be quite warm and welcoming.

I wouldn’t go so far as to allege that the OP chose the writing of our first Pope (1 Peter 2:3-4) just to be provocative… but as with all “cherry picked” scripture, while it remains absolutely true, it completely lacks context. There is just a little more relating to eternal life than this one verse in scripture.

I wonder if mmm’s bible also has this:

2 Peter 2:20 “If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.”

I do want to add that this was thirty some odd years ago, and the attitude has changed somewhat now. When I go to visit my parents (Southern Baptists), I attend Sunday services with them and then go to Mass afterwards. No one there knows I am Catholic, I do not hear the stuff that used to go on. I do not agree with their interpretations on Sacred Scripture; however, I just let it go at that time. Although my sister still holds her prejudices even today.
