It’s funny how circular these discussions get; how one will get mad at somebody for being “arrogant” or “snide,” then continue to respond with snide arrogance.

I suppose we all have logs that blind us.

yes, we ALL do

I knew that was going to come.

I don’t subscribe to those rules any longer. I respect Catholicism, but for me, it is hollow, restrictive and contains too many distractions.

So no, I no longer subscribe to the beliefs of Catholicism, including having to continue to meet the imposed requirements of an institution, by writing a letter to a man employed as a Bishop of the RCC.

Seriously, I really have left…letter or no letter…it matters not and God doesn’t care if I write a letter to a Bishop. If God did care, wow, talk about a legalistic Deity.
God cares. Especially since you’ve just denied the Church that HE founded.

I sincerely hope you come back home. Hell sucks.

I don’t subscribe to absolutism and don’t believe there is one true anything. I will experience God through Christ Jesus. I do not need the institution of the RCC to do that, the RCC was too distracting for me.

As you cannot imagine not being a Catholic, I cannot imagine staying in the RCC.
hi onetimeposter;

I read through this thread quickly…would you mind sharing what you mean by ‘distractions?’ You comment on that in a few posts within the thread, but I’m not sure what you mean? If you don’t mind, it would be helpful for me to understand your meaning here. Thanks.

Don’t worry, I chose my words carefully. Lord knows I’m an arrogant SOB sometimes.

God bless you, coach.
🙂 interesting screen name. I know what you mean…try as I might…I end up responding in kind to those who are not quite the best examples of Catholicism. It just seems they run en masse around here.

Only those who deny what is in Scripture and place an institution before God’s will is in that danger…

God’s will… Likely to be “follow my Church”.

After all… the Church compiled the Bible (with the help of the Holy Spirit!)

And, Jesus left us a Church, not a Bible, last I checked. 'Specially since the Gospels weren’t written until a few decades after His death.

Do you realize that the Catholic Church was around BEFORE Scripture was? Jesus founded the Church in 33 AD; Scripture wasn’t written for several decades later. The fact is that Scripture was written FOR the Church; the Church did not come about as a result of the Scripture.

So actually, placing Scripture before the Church puts you in a bit of danger…

Coach you have hijacked this thread. Take this to your own thread now.

I agree with what you’re saying, however, I think that a misconception for non Catholics towards Catholics, is that we place a pope above God, a building, a church, a parish, the holy sea, etc…above God. We don’t. We believe that the fullness of faith, can be found in the RCC. Christianity can be found in a great number of non Catholic, Christian denominations–but ***not the fullness ***of the faith. I would describe it best in that way, and I do believe that Jesus died for us ALL, not just Catholics. (I think that is also another misconception) But, that in the Church, can be found a beautiful fullness and richness like no other Christian faith. I think that we all must find our way to God, and His main concern is for us to find Him, and to ‘get us’ to Heaven. I believe that Jesus gave Peter that ‘right’ to begin His Church…the very first organized Church on earth. I think that if Jesus had no ‘image’ of His Church in mind, He wouldn’t have asked Peter to begin it. He would have just preached, and not concerned Himself with what happened after His death. But, the fact that He was concerned, and had that conversation with Peter–and Peter began the RCC…shows that Jesus did have a plan…and a specific blueprint for how He wanted His teachings to be carried out.

Protestants speak of the RCC as being man made, when really…breaking away from it was all man’s doing.:o When you think about it.

actually your misperceptions put you in danger…Im just fine thanks. And I am not sending anyone to hell…I thought your church taught not to say that?

I disagree completely with what you have stated…however…thanks so much for putting it forward so civilly…that earns my immediate respect.

Orly?

Misconceptions?

Do tell. I’m sure you preaching to a board of faithful CATHOLICS will get you far.

What’s that I smell?

Then perhaps you can understand the common plight–not just in Catholics but in people of all faiths (and even the atheists among us). The pride which lives in every person which drives each of us to, at times, be uncharitable. Generalizing Catholics as an uncharitable lot is not exactly charitable…in fact, it’s downright prejudicial. I would be no better to say the same about protestants, though I probably could based on my own experience. Then again, no one’s perfect.

Only God is humble enough to be perfectly charitable–that contradiction of the Cross is a slap in the face to every ounce of pride in my body.

Anyways…my screenname is a combination of the name Christ gave to the Apostle Peter, after whom my parents named me, and Augustine of Hippo, after whom I’ve named myself in Confirmation.

God bless you always.

I have no “misperceptions,” thank you, but I’m glad to see you have no argument to the fact that the Church existed before the New Testament, thereby giving it more authority.

As to sending anyone to hell, I was simply quoting you…
Only those who deny what is in Scripture and place an institution before God’s will is in that danger…
Hypocrisy?

True…so youd think they would be more explicit in terms of Peter’s papal authority…funny that they are not. God’s will…didnt Jesus put that as to believe in Him? I dont see mention of following Rome.

It’s funny you would reject absolutes, and then give that quote Gandhi, when Christ was pretty absolute about salvation Himself.

Seriously, have you even read the Gospels?
Yes. I find nothing funny about the matter. Love God, love your neighbour. Easy to say, hard to carry out…as is evidenced around here. 🤷
