Any dissension must immediately end, because this woman has bared her soul in front of her god (government) and everyone present…

It is meant to silence the pro-life discussion. Because pro-lifers don’t want to make any woman uncomfortable by talking about abortion in a negative way, if Jackie Spiers or any other pro-abortion woman falls on her sword, then the discussion is over.

But one does wonder…Why is “terminating a pregnancy” such a painful, gut-wrenching loss? After all, it’s just a blob of tissue!

They can’t have it both ways.

You’ve missed the point. Speier had no abortion.
Rather she suffered a miscarriage, sad yes, but not a “pro-choice” fact.
She attempted to turn it into a “pro-choice” fact.

I live in the magic realm of Speier, Pelosi and Boxer.
Meaning, literally, I’m a “local” and they disgust me.
They would turn all words into pro-choice statements, if they could.

Excuse me?

Her disclosure was in response to Rep. Chris Smith, who was describing a second trimester dilatation and evacuation (suction) elective abortion, NOT the d and c Congresswoman Speirs endured when she miscarried.

Her experince with what appears - from her own description - to have been a routine d and c following a “spontaneous abortion” (miscarriage) was not the same as what Rep. Smith was speaking about in the course of attempting to strip Planned Parenthood funding. What she said either indicated ignorance, or was purely political.

I am well aware of the definitions involved, having had three spontaneous abortions (miscarriages) myself.

The point is, it may be the context which Speier is speaking from.

Using correct definitions helps the dialog to move forward.

I agree – we need to know more about the context of her own thoughts. Jackie Speier strikes me as a sincere, honest and forthright person. I have not yet met her personally, but she attended a funeral Mass in which I participated last September in San Francisco, for a former student of mine who with her daughter was burned to death in a huge fireball caused by a gas pipeline explosion in San Bruno, California. Until I see credible evidence to the contrary, I will assume she was speaking from the heart in her remarks last week in the House of Representatives.

I’m still waiting for anybody to tell me what her miscarriage has to do with whether or not Planned Parenthood should receive government funding. It appears she has had second thoughts about sharing her story as she has been backpedaling from her comments since the moment she made them…

Her comments re her miscarriage had nothing to do with the vote at hand.
On the contrary, it seemed to be the usual - typical Speier rooting for Speier.

The point is not whether she was “speaking from the heart”, but whether her personal experience with a spontaneous abortion (a rather late miscarriage, in her case) has anything at all to do with funding for Planned Parenthood, or with a second trimester dilatation and evacuation elective abortion, which Rep. Smith was describing.

It made absolutely no sense for her to bring up her own sad experience in the context of this discussion.

I know she didn’t have an abortion, but she was painting a picture of her having had an abortion, and needing sympathy, and also saying that MEN don’t have any right to legislate about abortion, and to her, it’s really irrelevant that it wasn’t exactly an abortion she had, and when the left talks about abortion this way, they don’t think we are smart enough to figure it out, plus their feeeeeeeelings have been hurt, so the debate must stop, and stop immediately. They do this all the time, in different ways on different fronts.

I am sorry that you live in the land of Speier, let alone Pelosi and Boxer. They are despicable human beings. I didn’t know that all 3 of them claim to be Catholic. If I could spit on the ground I would, just at the thought.

No, I’m as anti-abortion as it gets!

It was her quote that made me write that - SHE said it was a “painful, gut-wrenching decision,” yet Planned Parenthood tells women that they are carrying nothing but a clump of cells or a blob of tissue, so why IS it painful anyway???

Am I just too logical??

I despise abortion and those who support it.

Yep - it’s a horrible place to live, except that my son and DIL live here
and they asked me to move out here. Pelosi, Boxer, Speier: HORRIBLE.

My dd and sil live out there, as well, at least for the next few months while he completes his post-doc. Daughter works for a big secular non-profit that helps poor pregnant women and their families. Though it is actually quite pro-life, practically speaking, in what it accomplishes, it is quite a popular organization with Hollywood types, rock stars, and lots of politicians, including Pelosi, because of the demographic it serves.

My daughter loves giving tours of the building to high-profile pro-choice visitors, as the walls are decorated with beautiful photos of pregnant women and babies. 🙂

But I digress.
