I’m sorry for your background and more sorry for your present confusion. I am thankful for the voice of a group that resists violence but your group is in error. Your primary error is the same as Islam’s primary error. You deny the divinity of Christ. Between your group and truth is an abyss no one should cross. But you have. I am sorry for you.

Yes, there are plenty of bufoons who call themselves Catholic. Some are even evil. But if you get the question of Christ wrong everything else is wrong.

If I were ever to consider leaving the Catholic faith for any other denomination, which I would NEVER EVER consider doing, but say that for some insane reason I would, I could never leave a Church which has the True Presence in the Holy Eucharist for one that does not.

Instead of watering down my faith, I would look to an even more Orthodox belief (hypothetically OF COURSE).

I would rather die than CHOOSE to live without the Eucharist.
Any worship without the Real Presence is incomplete.

The Greek word used in this case for “word” is the same as the Greek word for “reason”. God is reasonable, according to the apostle John. If God is reasonable, then surely we can discover some facts about him through rational debate? Except that the New World Translation of the Bible, a version that ONLY the JW’s use, that passage reads “In the beginning was the Word, and the word was A GOD”. Since he was only A god, and not THE God, of course, there’s no Trinity :rolleyes:

This person is only trying to waste our time, yet we come and answer his/her posts.

Aside from what I just said, here are my thoughts:

If this person used to be Catholic, we must feel sorry for him/her and pray that he/she finds the truth because being a Catholic and leaving the Church for the JWs is just plain ignorance.

This is why they always bash our religion, because a lot of them were indoctrinated Catholics who saw something wrong in the Church (which most of their reasons are lame). These people knew nothing about the Church, and because the JWs are so deceiving, people fall for their lies!

It does seem true at the beginning, but as jwtrust said,

See John 1:1 (as quoted above). Why would this be said if JC weren’t God??

Isn’t this enough proof? Or do you need more?

How about John 20:28 “Thomas answered and said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” (Thomas talking to Jesus)… Why would Thomas say this to JC if JC weren’t God?

John 8:58 “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I Am”— (Jesus speaking to the Jews… Here I Am = Yahweh, or as you JWs say, Jehovah) Why would JC say this if he weren’t God?

Isn’t this enough proof? With these 3 passages ANY Catholic can prove why we are Catholics… Why would anyone leave the Church if these verses are so plain simple? They are too easy to understand!

Folks, let’s just remember here that most of these JW posters only come to play with our heads. It’s like candy to them. They think that they will get their point across because they believe we Catholics don’t know the Bible! Luckily, many of us are taught in the right way. Thank God I went to Catholic school, thank God I was born Catholic, thank God I am not blind to fall for the falsetower!! AMEN!!!

Some people have asked why it is that I am not debating and discussing. The reason is because I would be here for months arguing with people. Its not my inention to argue with anyone, and naturally I don’t have that much time.

I don’t believe that the Jehovah Witnesses are the true religion. Why?
  1. The mistranslation about “abstaining from blood” - translated by the misguided elders as being blood transfusions. This means that those who were victims of 9/11 would have not been allowed to get the life saving blood transfusion to save their life.
2)Quoting a passage from the bible (something to do with beheading) in the Old Testament and using that for a basis for banning birthdays. Birthdays are HARMLESS. I love to celebrate my birthday, the birthday of my nieces and my nephews AND of Jesus my Savior!
  1. Attacking the Catholic Church. I was really annoyed when I came home from my Parish Bazaar to find that there was a “the end of false religion is near” pamphlet in my door. I guess the visitors didn’t notice my American flag?
I challenge a Jehovah Witness to do what Jesus said: Give to the poor with the words “when I was hungry, you gave me to eat, when I was thirsty you gave me to drink, when I was in need of clothing, you clothed me”. Volunteer at the local soup kitchen, buy a new toy for Toys for Tots.

They don’t believe this to be true… sadly enough they use several quotes to prove their point but ignore the rest of the Bible… I mean, just look at these quotes form Matthew 25: 31- 46 (adding to what jediliz posted):
31 14 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, 32 and all the nations 15 will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. I think I just proved my point… they do works by knocking on doors and “have faith” as they say but ignore what Jesus said in Matthew 25. This is a key to being saved.

Isn’t this more important to the JW to preach than to feed the poor? Yes it is… so, again, are they the True religion? I just proved once again that they AREN’T.

I wonder what the homeless say to the JWs when they are preached to but are offered no help… :confused:
 
Do “true religions” make false prophecies, and add words to the Bible to make it conform to their belief system?
The bible clearly teaches in the trinity,which your “true religion” denies, and you can even find it in your own bible in many verses, which the Watchtower has not yet changed to make it say what they want it to say.
I will respond again tomorrow with those verses, I have to re-look them up.
In this way, you will not have to argue all day, all you have to do is read your bible

I know that this sounds rough, but belief in the true God is very important, and the Trinity is the true God.

  1. Your church will then turn around and try to pray to God (priests on both sides pray to the same God) and aksing for his blessing. What is Jehovah God supposed to do? Take sides? Allow his professed followers in one country to gain a victory over another country and give his blessing for this? This is a disgrace before God Almighty. He would NEVER agree to allow his own people to kill their own with his blessing. In face, Jesus said “By this all will know you are my disciples, by the LOVE you have amongst yourselves.”

Actually God has allowed his professed believers to go to war against each other when one side was wrong and the only way that side would realize they were wrong is through war. An example of this is in your own New World Translation of the Bible in Judges Chapter 19-21. Here Jehovah clearly takes sides and encourages the side who is on the right side of the moral issue to continue to fight the war at least three times if I am not mistaken.

Secondly, God has given the governmental authorities the right to use force and the Catholic Church has developed just war doctrine to help governments to determine when it is just to use force.

Thirdly, sometimes the loving thing to do is to use force to save someone. The Bible says that I am to love my wife as Christ loved the Church. This means that I may be called to give my life to save her. If I see my wife being attacked and perhaps the only way to save her is to physically harm or even kill the attacker, it would be unloving for me not to do anything. And, the moment you say that a person has the right to use force in self-defense that is the moment you open the door to the possibility of a just war.

Also Christ must have had some understanding that Christians may have to use force to defend themselves as he says the following:

"Then he said to them: “But now let the one that has a purse take it up, likewise also a food pouch; and the one having no sword sell his outer garment and buy one.” -Luke 22: 36 New World Translation
  1. Sexual Immorality is rampart worldwide, and the Catholic church does nothing to stop it from happening amongs its members. The Bible says “Remove the wicked man from anong yourselves” We as JW’s do that properly. Naturally we HELP people that have made a mistake, and show willingness to adjust and change, but persons that ON PURPOSE and DELIBERATELY go against their own PUBLIC DEDICATION and BAPTISM can’t profess to bear the name of Jehovah God and claim to be a part of his Organisation. We try to follow the Bible properly. Yet in most of the churches, they ahve thrown away the Bible, and homosexual priests, and lesbians are tolerated and nothing is done to remove them when and if they are unwilling to change.

Your problem is NOT with the Catholic Church as the Catholic Church teaches that homosexual acts are objectively sinful and that sex prior to marriage is also objectively sinful. You can read what the US Catholic Bishops have said on the topic of homosexuality here:

The problem with the JWs’ criticisms of the Catholic Church is that they focus on how people in the Church fail to live up to the teachings of the Catholic faith. Well, the same thing happens to JWs. There are many JWs who fail to live up to what the JWs’ teach in areas of sexual morality. In fact, the JWs have their own sexual abuse scandal right now as shown at the website www.silentlambs.org

The real issue is not whether every single person who claims to be a JW or claims to be a Catholic are living up to what the respective groups teach that makes a religion true or false. What makes a religion true or false is whether or not the religion teaches what is true or teaches what is false.

Since the JWs have had to change their doctrines so often in their short history (they have only been around since the late 1800’s) , which would indicate that the JWs have in fact taught many false doctrines otherwise why change them, then the only criticisms that they can make against the Catholic Church is to attack the individual members of the Catholic Church and call them sinners—which is something that the Catholic Church freely admits about her children. And then say that since the Catholic Church is full of sinful members that must make her teachings false. This is a logical fallacy as we would not say that a burglar who preaches that stealing is wrong but then robs a house is preaching a falsehood. We would just say that the burglar is a hypocrite and you will find hypocrites everywhere (including in your own mirror at times.)

So, the real issue is what do the JWs teach and what do the Catholics teach and how do we know which group is teaching what is true?

I suggest we ban jwtruth as a hit and run poster. If he doesn’t want to discuss his views with us then he forfeits the right to post his vile propaganda. Unless he wants to invite me to speak at his local “kingdom hall.”
 
Think your suggestion is interesting, C, but think better that no one answers jw posts at all in the future… that way he can never say we don’t allow freedom of speech. It is just that no one will respond and it will drop way to the back of the boards instead. 😛 oops, yes, I am a sinner, and yes, I did it on purpose… but since jw doesn’t read these posts, no harm?

new here, just an idea. don’t know how the moderators think about these things. Maybe it would be “shunning”. Oh, dear, they do that in so many of those off beat so called “faiths”…

This is often my reaction after a sense of frusteration.

I think even though jwtruth doesn’t respond, he’s still out there reading these threads. He even alluded to it in one of his posts. However, I don’t approve of what he did.

BUT, I think there might be more than a few JW lurkers out there that are curious about our faith differences and come here to check us out anonymous because they can’t go into another church. We’ve had a few brave people pop in (briefly) after finding us. Its our loss (and thers) that they didn’t stay. 😦
There’s many of us that wouldn’t talk to them at our homes when they come but would here. And this could be a safe place where they could ask questions that they would not in person.

Finally, I think most importantly we have to respond to charges that jwtruth came in here with for the sake of our own brothers and sisters that may be sitting on the fence of their faith. Our corrections of false charges COULD save someone’s soul. And it helps to know what the average JW is currently thinking about us (you can’t always get that from the vagueness that is often presented in the Society’s publishings). If jwtruth had first sought out the correct biblical teachings of the Catholic church and not fell victim to what the Watchtower says about us, just maybe…we could have saved him. The least we could do is understand where we have all failed jwtruth as a community of believers and prevent the indoctrination of the next jwtruth and shower them with truth and love. Our pride and idleness may have created jwtruth just as much as the Watchtower did.

Amen!!! In fact, you can see that most of the criticisms leveled against the Catholic Church by JWTruth have to do with Catholics not living up to the faith. And, this is in addition to his own lack of understanding of the Catholic faith as made clear in his videos.
