Islam is an ideology, Muslims are the people.
But your posts have been about muslims within islam.

They think the salvation of their souls depend on it and that is why with the millions upon millions of** peaceful Muslims show no outrage over the violence** and have no intentions of changing anything in Islam to stop it.
And the reason I know this is Hogwash is because my wife is a muslimah.

I know muslims and islam intimately.

I dont agree with islam, and I share many of your views of how dangerous islam is as both an ideology and a political force.

Having said that, muslims are not a monolithic group that you make them out to be.

There are many muslims, that I call anonymous christians, seeking the light of jesus but unable to see it because they are trapped in the darkness.

I fear our friend Hamba and Elwill are just those kinds of muslims.

Its important to show them how their religion is errant, and we must be firm when we do that. But its important not to insult them as people in the process.

Muslims, like Christians, are generally outraged by violence, they are after all human beings and children of God.

We must never forget that.

There is no reason for this rift between Catholics and Protestants other than some sort of pride that hangs in the way. And I see it on both sides. Some of us prefer not to follow the Pope. There are some other things too that we don’t see eye to eye on and that doesn’t make us any less Christian than the Catholics. But some Protestants get all hooty tooty too. I have heard it.

As for praying for me, I can use all the prayers I can get. But what are you praying for me to gain? In what manner are you praying for me? To make me agree with you? There are a lot of people in this world that need prayers and they are the ones who are troubled in their souls, the dying who need comfort and peace, the ones who have completely lost their way in this life and might have been born into a life so far away from the Light that they need all of our prayers.

Like I said, you can do what you want - if you want to pray for me then fine, do so. A little girl of 12 years old bled to death because she was forced into a marriage in Yemen and her little body could not handle the sexual abuse. Homosexuals are killed in Iran just because they are homosexuals. Two Iranian homosexual boys of 15 and 16 were hanged and were supposed to have at least a hood over their heads but instead the hoods were taken off and then they were dragged in the streets and they eventually died by hanging, suffocation, and probably the cruelty of being dragged through the streets. That happened in the past, but it still goes on with the same level of cruelty. Women are stoned because they don’t have 4 witnesses to their rapes in Saudi Arabia. 500 Nigerian Christians were massacred a few weeks ago and they were mostly women and children because their crime was they were Christians. Coptic Christians are kidnapped and raped and forced to marry Muslim men. That same thing is happening to Hindu girls too. Russians going to work were killed on a train, 45 gays in Turkey were killed in the last 3 years just because they were gay. We are going to have a two week hate fest on a UC Campus in Irvine based on propaganda against Israel and not the truth of the situation, led by the Muslim Student Union and their apologists.

In March, in 15 countries, against 5 religions, we have had 165 Jihad attacks that has killed 1605 people, and wounded 2046. The dead and wounded numbers might not be correct because that is the initial count because some of the wounded may die later.

All of these things are ok under Sharia laws. Laws based on the Quran and Sunnah.

No one can keep up with the attacks and dead because of a guy named Muhammad.

The outrage by Muslims, or apologists, is deafening. But it isn’t outrage directed at the above, it is outrage that we criticize Islam.

Then work to set them straight. I don’t have that gift so I work on educating our own. People with some weird idea that Islam cannot be criticized because they have friends, or a wife in your case, is untrue.

I quote from Sharia laws and you get all bothered. Your wife isn’t following Islam if she married a non-Muslim. If she is a Sunni, then Sharia laws, m6.7 (5) says it is unlawful for her to be married to a non-Muslim. She is breaking the law so not so steadfast of a Muslim.

I was just recently listened to a Dr Phil show that my friend’s wife taped about bullying. It was about children bullying and the consequences of it being that the objects of their bullying committed suicide.

And he said that if it weren’t for the silent majority this wouldn’t be happening.

This can be taken a step further because as I pointed out in Bat Ye’or’s book, in the last few posts, that the majority are doing nothing in Islam to change anything and Islam spreads because of the help by our own and their greed for money and power. And Muhammad said, ‘Silence is concent…’ Its Bukhari b9, v86, n101

And some of this could have been what we see now, it is a sort of bullying to tell others that we cannot criticize Islam. Whether it be because they think they are friends with Muslims are married to one, doesn’t matter. We can and should be able to criticize anything.

Christianity certainly is criticized, as are the people. Some have had no problem in doing that with me. Muslims have no problem in doing that either when they try to excuse Islam’s violence and immorality that is a part of its teachings with bad Christians who are not following the teachings of Jesus. The difference being the laws and how we handle the immorality and violence. The laws based on Islam are violent and allow immorality (child marriages, killing because a person is not a Muslim, or killing a gay person just because they are gay, etc). Our laws are continually changing and we work towards making things just and fighting immorality (pediphilia, etc) and injustices. Sharia laws are static because they tell us that it is from Allah and therefore cannot change. And there is no criticizing them because of that same thought process.

Then work to set them straight. I don’t have that gift so I work on educating our own. People with some weird idea that Islam cannot be criticized because they have friends, or a wife in your case, is untrue.

I was thinking about my statement and am wrong to say what kind of a muslim she is or isn’t. In fact, it is a good thing that she and you have found love over and above Islam.

But the Sharia law was broken and that is a no no in Islam.

And I still stand by my statement that islam should be criticized just like any other ideology is criticized. And I don’t like the double standard that some apply to people when criticizing it.

:bighanky:…I feel sorry for you.

You are obviously a bitter person for whatever reason.

Hamas is killing my people…If I can forgive, surly a person who calls them self a Christian can.
Perhaps the intent is to try to stop hamas and islamic militants from killing others by alerting the people to the brutality of islam

BTW…did you read the latest on the 13 year old Yemeni girl? Tied up after a dr refused to give her sedatives to make her succumb to her 27 year old husband. She died. i’m not understanding what muslims told you about these things which seems to you block road !!! , did they said to you i"it have no meaning in english or what ?
the quran allready translated to probably all languags in the world

the translation just lack the accurate translation , for example when some christians raise the issue about prohibit the muslims to take friends from nonmuslims . is friend accurate translation for the word mentioned in arabic ? no
is it wrong translation ? well , for the first glance as an arabic speaker and have merely good english languge may be i will feel that it’s acceptable translation , but my understanding for the original arabic word not representing your understanding (as an eglish speaker ) for the translated english word , so that the misunderstanding and conflicts will raises but through our discussion i will discover what happened and i will find out the root cause of your misunderstanding , hence i will correct that by saying that the orignal arabic word refer to another thing , it dosn’t refer to friendship relationship as you thought , any arabic speaker will know that are you understand what am trying to say ?
This problem seems to come up most often when I bring up something subjective that the Quran states. This is when I am told that I cannot understand the full meaning because I don’t speak or fully understand Arabic. You see, to the best of my knowledge, when something is translated into another language the best scholars are used to do this. They take into consideration the time that the book was written, what actual phrases meant etc. So, if this is also true about the Quran, (and I would assume it would be) then those subjective verses are translated to the best that they can be. Why shouldn’t I as a non-Arabic speaking person be able to fully understand or comprehend what is being said in the translation for what is said in the actual Arabic text? This is the road block I run into whenever subjective verses are brought up by me to my Muslim friends.
dose he really end the conversation after saying that you have to understand the original arabic ? or dose he starting to clarify his point but you are the one who prefer to end the conversation rather than listnning ?
Yes, sadly to say after this is talked about and I am told that I can never understand the true meaning of the text, then they seem to shut down the discussion even if I try to continue it. They always want to end with, you can’t understand it and that’s that. 😦 I have only had one instance where one friend tried to clarify himself and he went into a tangent that told me that the Quran was written for the ture Arab speaking people, because Arabic was the language of Allah, and if you couldn’t speak it then that was sort of too bad for you… This obviously was a sad response in my view.
you asking how does islam expect to gain converts…
I mean universal in the sense that it should be for EVERYONE, and everyone should have the ablilty to understand it. I don’t mean gain converts in the sense of someone who has no religion or a religion along the lines of an atheist, agnostic, Buddhist, or Hindu background. I mean how can Islam try to gain converts mainly from believing Christians and Jews with this type of situation? I do however clearly recognize that there are indeed many converts to Islam, but if you look at the numbers many come from places that represent those ideas I mentioned above. Most, although I won’t deny that there are some, do not come from Christian, or Jewish backgrounds.
i understand your point , but i’m not sure if i can agree with you in that
if my knowlege in english for example is weak , and while i’m reading english book i found some expressions and some parables are hard for me to understand because some of these things are need native languge and native culture to understnd as for the mere litereal transaltion will not transform the purpose from it to me , i will not feel that it’s the fault of the book , i will confess that it’s me who havn’t enough knowledge
beside , existing of these things will not prevent me to understand the core massage of that book , do you agree with me ?
Yes I can clearly understand what you are saying here, and I agree that some things cannot be translated. BUT if something is the ture message of God, then that I believe can in fact be easily translated and understood without the perfect translation you speak of. Becuase God wants everyone to be able to understand His message. I also believe having said that, that God would never fault the people if they couldn’t understand His message by written language. Becuase if that was the case then wouldn’t it ultimately be His fault? And of course we probably both can’t believe that to be the case.
you are talking about translations of the bible , i will suggest that you mean from greek language. let me say that i will doubt about the situation of the bible if the greek language is a living language and are practiced and culturly known in the world with comparison to arbic language simple example , do you know that some translations translted greek word which talking about jesus as “son” and other translations translated exactly the same word in the same verse as “servant” , which is the most accurate ? is it son of God or servant of God ?i can explore for you this verse if you want
Well actually Greek wasn’t the only language that the Bible was translated into in the early centuries. There was also Aramaic, and that is a much closer language to Arabic, I believe Arabic actually stems from this language. In both languages the same message was taken to mean the same.

Good post there, KS. Commendably frank. 🙂

“It’s an Arab(ic) thing, you wouldn’t understand” is the lamest excuse for not being able or willing to examine or defend your own religion I have ever heard. I am always shocked whenever it comes up here. No Christian ever says about Christianity or the Bible “it is a Syriac/Greek/Hebrew thing. You can never understand it REALLY unless you know those languages.” That would be incredibly silly and self-defeating.

So I say, and not for the first time: Islam is Arab imperialism, culturally and linguistically-speaking. It is not a universal religion; rather, it is a universalizing religion in that it takes one cultural and linguistic mindset and forces it, as a means of transmission of what it claims to be the very true and literal word of God and the righteous acts of God’s most beloved and final prophet, on people of disparate cultures and linguistic backgrounds. It will ultimately fail on that account, if not more seriously and permanently on account of its inherently shallow faith and numerous internal contradictions.

… Why shouldn’t I as a non-Arabic speaking person be able to fully understand or comprehend what is being said in the translation for what is said in the actual Arabic text? This is the road block I run into whenever subjective verses are brought up by me to my Muslim friends.
This is really problematic if Islam is to be a true universal religion. As have been said along this line, I too can only see this implication of non-Arabic speaking persons not being able to fully understand the Arabic texted Quran:-

The religion is not universal because unless I am an Arabic speaking person I would not be able to fully comprehend the Quran. The implication makes me to be less of a Muslim than my Arabic speaking counterparts in the sense that I am deprived of a full understanding of Islam. Not everybody can master the language even though they may learn. Others can but not everyone. This also put an Arab who is fluent in the language to be in a far more advantageous position than those who do not speak the language. Since Islam is not purely spiritual, the implication is devastating in term assessing equal footing in the world of Islam.

My biggest problem with the Quran that can only be fully understood in Arabic, the language that it was revealed, makes the message of God to be very elusive to people – and very unfairly, as if it their fault being not born Arabs. Surely God does not work this way.

And so, who is it that Christians are following – the author of 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 or Jesus Christ (pbuh)?
I think you misunderstood (1 Corinthians 10:23-24):
Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”—but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.

So if I think that wine is not constructive and leads to drunkenness or could cause harm for others then I will not drink it (even though that it is permissible), and the same thing applies for other things.

🙂 And that what is I’m doing exactly, (1 Corinthians 10:23-24) gave me a reason to abstain from wine and pork…

The problem that I face when talking to Christians is not so much the loss of accuracy in reading and understanding the English translation of the Qur’an, but rather they choose to misunderstand the English of their own Bible

Matthew 5:17-20
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

And so, I have sadly arrived at the conclusion that a major reason why Christians are so reluctant to give up consuming pork and blood (among other things), is because they simply refuse to understand the English of the Bible, NOT because they lack understanding of the Arabic of the Qur’an.

What is it that Hamba2han wants to know about the quote of the gospel of Matthew? That this quote translate to mean abstaining pork?

Matthew 5:17-20

Jesus constantly upbraided the Pharisees for their adherence to the letter of the law while at the same time ignoring the spirit of the Law which was to treat other people with justice and mercy .
V18 you quote " not the least stroke of a pen will by any means disappear until everything is accomplished"

Now please read on to the Crucifixion of Jesus . Just before He died on the Cross He cried out " IT IS ACCOMPLISHED "
So you see its not about who eats pork or who doesn’t eat pork.
Its about Jesus shedding His Precious Blood for the redemption of all mankind.

"… until everything is accomplished"

Since the term “everything” in the sentence is believed to be so absolutely crucial and monumental in order to obtain salvation, why didn’t Jesus (pbuh) just explain in all the years he spent with his disciples, not even once to them, that “everything” really meant his own life?

It just does not add up… In plain English, the word “everything” simply does not mean one’s own life… because if it did mean that, then it is not logical at all for Jesus (pbuh) not to explain it to his disciples and making sure they understood perfectly without even an iota of doubt or misunderstanding, what is required for them to obtain salvation.

18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

In Matthew 5:18, the word “everything” is far, far, FAR more likely to mean “until heaven and earth disappear” i.e. when the world comes to an end.

You guys know that this is a very common ploy for Muslims to divert off of their own Muhammad by bringing up the Bible.

How many times does Hama2han need to be told about those lines of the Bible? Why is it that Muslims pick and chose what Jewish things that they eat? Jakasaki pointed that out too. But even there Hama2han chose to ignore that. Why is he ignoring that?

So what we have here is Hama2han demanding to know why we eat pork and ignoring the cruelties that come from his own Prophet and also that Muslims also ignore some of the foods to be excluded from their diet. What came out of their Prophet’s mouth was much worse than eating pork!

Here is the post from Jakasaki pointing out the diet of Muslims:
Muslims take pride that they don’t eat pork like the Jews don’t eat pork because it is God’s command from the 5 Books of Moses.
The Jews are following the dietary laws of Leviticus. Leviticus also states that camel meat is also forbidden.
Jews don’t eat camel, but muslims do.
Jews also don’t eat lizard or hare, but muslims do.
So, if Hamba is going to go on and on about Christians and pork, then I will go on and on about camel, lizard and hare.
I wonder why they only honed in on the pork and not the 10 Commandments, or the rest of the dietary observances?

Although the passages are little bit tricky, we must understand that everything goes beyond following the law, and that is, how righteous we must be in the Lord. We must surpass beyond righteousness of the Pharisees in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Righteousness in the eyes of the Lord is the key because eating pork, or meats sacrifice to idols are not considered major law like circumcision which was rebuked by Apostle Paul to give the gentiles the right for salvation if they follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The law is there (Torah) but Jesus came to fulfill them. The fulfillment was accomplished and being righteous should exceed that of the scribes and the pharisees. Ceremonial laws was a matter of the old ways, but being righteous, morally and spiritually, makes the most for your salvation. We know that the Pharisees were scolded by Jesus with there inequities, even when following those ceremonial laws. That when Jesus came to redeem them and gives hope to non-Jews, it was not because they follow the ceremonial laws, but because of other sinful ways.

This problem seems to come up most often when I bring up something subjective that the Quran states. i’m glad to see your respond , i thought you missed it 😛

you supposed that when something is translated into another languge the best scholars are used to do this 🙂
but may be the best scholar isn’t the best translator , and vise versa
what i’m trying to say is that whoever translate something from languge to another , it can’t to be 100% perfect , it’s hard to find someone fully in arabic and fully in english alike
beside , quran specifically isn’t normal book with simple arabic language . you know that muslims consider quran to be miracle in it’s language in the first place .

seems to me that you are sad because you can’t fully understand quran , who told you that anyone can say that he is fully in anything ,
the more i reread quran the more i understnad , so that i think that fully understanding quran is impossible to everyone

wise words
the human keep learning and learning until he says i’m fully learned , hence he start to lose knowledge
Yes, sadly to say after this is talked about and I am told that I can never understand the true meaning of the text, then they seem to shut down the discussion even if I try to continue it. can i have example for your questions 🙂

may can i ask my next question , what do you mean by fully understand it ?🙂
Yes I can clearly understand what you are saying here, and I agree that some things cannot be translated. ** BUT if something is the ture message of God, then that I believe can in fact be easily translated and understood without the perfect translation you speak of**. Becuase if that was the case then wouldn’t it ultimately be His fault? And of course we probably both can’t believe that to be the case.
first of all i think that everone can understand the massage of quran clearly , you are not talking about the entire massage , you are talking about deepfull thoughts which need experts in languge and in knowledge i think !
to be scholar is a great thing but not required from every muslim

i believe and you believe that God is exist , in the same time i believe that you are the misdguided one , and you believe that i’m the misguided one
from both prespective people misunderstood the massage of God .
i know that God want from people to understand his massage , but he will not force us to

you said that God would never fault the people if they couldn’t understand His message by written language , i just wonder how christianity transmitted to you !!!

She died. She had been brutally raped by her husband. Mohammads clerics are in an uproar since the Yemeni government is trying to put an end to muslim subjegation of woman.
No! It can’t be! I am so sad and discouraged now.

We should all remember this poor CHILD in our prayers, and also her murderer and the clerics.

Please excuse my poor usage of terminology. I am brand new to this subject and I’m quite confused by certain words and terms. Although I google them I am still confused.

What I am seeing is a lack of respect from many Muslims towards approximately 50% of the world’s population - females.

I’m reading about the kidnappings of young Christian girls who are forced to convert to Islam, who are treated as slaves, who are raped, beaten, and murdered. They have no rights. They are considered to be the property of their husbands.

This is barbaric and totally unacceptable. Yet it seems to be common and there is rarely any punishment doled out to the men who perpetuate this belittling and disrespect for women, as far as I can see.

I’ve got news - girls and women are human beings, just like men. Being one myself, I shudder when I read posts like the one I quoted above. This sort of behavior is just not right. Everything we do should be based on love - the kind of love Jesus taught us to have.

I’m not seeing that love coming from very many Muslims.

I know I’m opening myself up for attack by posting this, but please try to understand that I am a poorly educated (in terms of Muslims and Islam) female who is trying to learn. Maybe a Muslim can explain to me why these atrocious acts keep happening with no or little punishment.

This is a thread about Jesus and Muhammed. These are the two Commandments Jesus gave us:

The two great commandments that contain** the whole law of God** are:

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.

And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

[Douay-Rheims, Matthew 22] [bolding added]

Is there anything like this in Islam?

*Holy Mother, please keep
all unborn children safe today.

St. Francis, please pray for all unwanted and hurt animals.***

it will be pleasure to to explain whatever you want
you asking about why kidnappings of young Christian girls and forcing them to convert to Islam , treating them as slaves, and are raped, beaten, and murdered keep happening without punishments
if this is your question , then may be i have the right to ask which countries allows these crimes to happen without punishments ?

Is there anything like this in Islam?
Say, come, I will recite what God has made a sacred duty for you: Ascribe nothing as equal with God;
Be good to your parents;
You shall not kill your children on a plea of want; we provide sustenance for you and for them;
You shall not approach lewd behavior whether open or in secret,
You shall not take life, which God has made sacred, except by way of justice and law. Thus does God command you, that you may learn wisdom.
And you shall not approach the property of the orphan, except to improve it, until he attains the age of maturity.
Give full measure and weight, in justice; no burden should be placed on any soul but that which it can bear.
And if you give your word, do it justice, even if a near relative is concerned; and fulfill your obligations before God. Thus does God command you, that you may remember.
Verily, this is my straight path: follow it, and do not follow other paths which will separate you from God’s path. Thus does God command you, that you may be righteous. (6:151-153)

You shall regard the parents, the relatives, the orphans, the poor, the related neighbor, the unrelated neighbor, the close associate, the traveling alien, and your servants. (4:36)

13-year-old Yemeni bride dies of bleeding
AP

By AHMED AL-HAJ, Associated Press Writer Ahmed Al-haj, Associated Press Writer – Thu Apr 8, 1:06 pm ET

SAN’A, Yemen – A 13-year-old Yemeni girl has died of injuries to her genitals four days after a family-arranged marriage, a human rights group said.

The practice of marrying young girls is widespread in Yemen and has drawn the attention of international rights groups seeking to pressure the government to outlaw child marriages. Legislation that would make it illegal for those under the age of 17 to marry is in serious peril after strong opposition from some of Yemen’s most influential Islamic leaders.

The 13-year-old girl from Hajja province, northwest of the capital, died on April 2, four days after her marriage to a 23-year-old man, said Majed al-Madhaji, a spokesman for the Sisters Arab Forum for Human Rights. A medical report from al-Thawra hospital said she suffered a tear to her genitals and severe bleeding.

Authorities detained the husband.

The Yemeni rights group said the girl was married off in an agreement between two men to marry each other’s sisters to avoid having to pay expensive bride-prices. The group said that was a common arrangement in the deeply impoverished country.

Yemen’s gripping poverty plays a role in hindering efforts to stamp out the practice, as poor families find themselves unable to say no to bride-prices in the hundreds of dollars for their daughters.

More than a quarter of Yemen’s females marry before age 15, according to a report last year by the Social Affairs Ministry. Tribal custom also plays a role, including the belief that a young bride can be shaped into an obedient wife, bear more children and be kept away from temptation.

***Last month, a group of the country’s highest Islamic authorities declared those supporting a ban on child marriages to be apostates.

A February 2009 law set the minimum age for marriage at 17, but it was repealed and sent back to parliament’s constitutional committee for review after some lawmakers called it un-Islamic. The committee is expected to make a final decision on the legislation this month.

Some of the clerics who signed the decree against a ban sit on the committee.

Further imperiling the effort is the weak government’s reluctance to confront the clerics and other conservative tribal officials, whose support is essential to their fragile hold on power.

The issue of Yemen’s child brides got widespread attention three years ago when an 8-year-old girl boldly went by herself to a courtroom and demanded a judge dissolve her marriage to a man in his 30s. She eventually won a divorce, and legislators began looking at ways to curb the practice.

In September, a 12-year-old Yemeni child-bride died after struggling for three days in labor to give birth, a local human rights organization said.

Yemen once set 15 as the minimum age for marriage, but parliament annulled that law in the 1990s, saying parents should decide when a daughter marries.
