In reducing the sample to people running for president during a pandemic you don’t have many people to establish a norm. That leaves this statement without much to back it up.

Most don’t see it as imaginery. Then general public when polled felt he would not make it 4 years as president. It used to gaffes and commentators would joke about it but now they are not joking about it.
