Point taken.

But one thing you are overlooking, and something many later prophets in the old testament overlooked, was that wickness can be overcome. If God, all of a sudden makes people aware of Him, and the truth of holy scripture, would not much of this ‘hell’ be the shame of the wicked realizing there iniquity? If a person can feel sorry for their behaviors, there is still hope yet. You underestimates God’s grace.

well, now, wait a minute, I never said I think this is the end. I absolutely DO think they will be reverted back to Christianity and Catholicism. They just need an ***-whipping to wake them up [the Minor Chastisement].

A good stiff kick in the rump. . . 👍

He wasn’t responding to me, he was responding to Asa.
Ah, my apologies.

DustinsDad:
This of course would mean that hell is real, people do go there and suffer for eternity, and merely being a “nice guy” doesn’t get you into heaven. It takes a bit more than that.

Peace in Christ,

DustinsDad
I absolutely agree with this, as all Christians must.

Similary, whereas salvation is POSSIBLE for a Muslim, it is difficult, seeing as they lack so much truth and grace.
Bingo. Other religions are “good” **only **insofar as they contain faint echoes of the Truth, as fully revealed in Christ.

Are you saying that the Lord Jesus is telling a lie when He says He is the ONLY WAY to God?

If a person is trying to get to God by any other way than through the Lord Jesus they will definitely fail because the Lord Jesus clearly says He is the ONLY WAY to God. The verse of John 14:6 is in the context of the followers of the Lord Jesus going to the Fathers house, heaven. So the only way to get to heaven is through the Lord Jesus. Now the only other place that people go to if they don’t go to heaven is hell.

This is why it is very, very, very important that people are told that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY WAY to God!

This isn’t a time to play peace games with false religions. Are some people in the RCC trying to bring unity between the RCC & other faiths like Islam? People who follow the Islamic religion need to be told that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY WAY to God, that their way to God is FALSE!

Tell people the TRUTH that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY WAY to God, that’s if you truly love people and don’t want them to go to hell!

It depends what is meant :o - it could mean either:

    1. Anyone who is saved, is saved, even if he was non-Christian in this life, by Jesus Christ alone
      or:
    1. Only those who are Christians in this life can be saved, by Jesus Christ alone
I believe the former - I do not believe the latter. Because I believe that salvation is so much & so entirely the work of God that our consciousness of His working is not of supreme importance; salvation is far more His work than ours, & it is entirely His (we are allowed a part in it - but not the decisive part :)) IOW, “Salvation is” very definitely
“of the LORD”. To make our choice or our knowledge all-decisive ignores the certainty of election, which flows utterly & totally & eternally from grace, & gives too high a place to the work of sinful man: it takes from God’s Glory. IOW, it is not evangelical.
The former possibility seems to me to be totally evangelical, & to agree with the words of Christ about who enters into His Kingly rule. Which is presumably why it is implied in the practice of (say) Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Salvation remains the gift of Christ, however little aware of it or of Him people may be. We are not privy to every detail of all God’s ways - we don’t need to be. So we don’t need to know every last detail of His ways with our fellow-creatures. It is enough that He is God, the Saviour.

If it’s such an easy ? why it is that many people believe that people of different faiths can find their own way to God?
Remember that the One Mediator continues to mediate after death. No one can answer what happens then.

You assume that because Jesus says He is the ONLY WAY to God, only belief in Him will get us to Heaven. Jesus died for all, believers and non-believers.

The CC contains the fullness of truth for salvation. This means that the CC holds the Deposit, without this, the true faith would not be known today.
Tell people the TRUTH that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY WAY to God, that’s if you truly love people and don’t want them to go to hell!
If you truly believe this ONE VERSE, what about all the other things Jesus said about how to be saved. John 6:35-59 unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood you do not have life withing you?
What about Jesus telling Nicodemus to be born again? We are called to be witnesses to Salvation, which is by Christ’s death on the cross alone. Christ died for ALL sinners, not just the ones who believe in Him. But it is incumbant upon Christians to witness His way by the way they lead their lives.

Your OP is confusing because you ask a simple question and expect a simple reply (your version). And the reply is quite simple, yes Jesus died for all. Your post begs the question of did Jesus only die for Christians who believe in Him?

Is the following statement by the Lord Jesus 100% true?

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
Are we to question all the saying of Jesus as being “100% true” or only this one?

i’m amazed at how a clear, straight forward, easy to understand statement of truth by the Lord Jesus that He is the only way to God is becoming such a complicated issue for many posters in this tread.

Why is this so??

I can only guess that some of you don’t really believe that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY way to God. Then you have an issue with the Lord Jesus in that you are saying He doesn’t tell the truth.

I truly believe that the Lord Jesus tells the truth and when He says He is the ONLY way to God, then He is the ONLY way to God period.

Now the true followers of the Lord Jesus need to tell other people what He has said that He is the ONLY way to God.

You mistake DustinsDad-- according to his profile he’s a Catholic (although apparently sort of “fundamentalist Catholic”).
This was for asa. First quote says so. the second may be a blooper, because it sounded so much like asa. Anyway, What I have written, I have written.

Frankly, we have come to suspect a trick. You get gun shy after awhile Forgive us.

Is the following statement by the Lord Jesus 100% true?

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
Christ said this.
So it’s clear that the Lord Jesus’ statement in John 14:6 is 100% true. Therefore it’s also 100% true that anyone who is trying to get to God by any other means/way other than by the Lord Jesus is going to hell.
Christ never said this.

Whenever I hear this argument I think of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Do you remember the scene where Jimmy Stewart is talking about his brother the pilot and he says “He saved every man on that transport ship!” How many folks on that ship knew that they were being saved by Jimmy’s brother? Is Christ’s saving power more limited than our own power to save one another? Christ said that all that are saved are saved by Him. Show me where He said that to get to Heaven you have to profess Christianity and then we can talk.

Every single poster here agreed that it is 100% true that Jesus said this.
Why is this so??
Because you changed the words of Jesus to the ONLY way. John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"
I can only guess that some of you don’t really believe that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY way to God.
You don’t have to guess, it is true, that’s what we said.
Then you have an issue with the Lord Jesus in that you are saying He doesn’t tell the truth
No, we believe Jesus is telling the truth. This is not the ONLY thing we must do to get to the Father.
I truly believe that the Lord Jesus tells the truth and when He says He is the ONLY way to God, then He is the ONLY way to God period.
Unfortunately that is not what Jesus said.
Now the true followers of the Lord Jesus need to tell other people what He has said that He is the ONLY way to God.
No, they need to spread the TRUE words of Jesus,

John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"
And not just that one verse, we have to tell it ALL,

John 14:21

Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him." ***
John 6:53-58
***53
Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54
Whoever eats 19 my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.
55
For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
56
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
57
Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.
58
This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.” ***

I like that! 🙂

So it’s clear that the Lord Jesus’ statement in John 14:6 is 100% true. Therefore it’s also 100% true that anyone who is trying to get to God by any other means/way other than by the Lord Jesus is going to hell.

So should ALL people who believe that the Lord Jesus is the only way to God be seeking to tell ALL other people the truth? I mean if a true follower of the Lord Jesus meets people of the Islamic faith should they be telling them that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY way to God, surely this is speaking the truth in love.
God’s love and mercy is infinite. It is impossible for any of us to understand the extraordinary depth and how it directly relates to judgement. My take, is, leave all that to God.

Now that doesn’t change Christ’s message. It should be stated that we are not talking about joining a country club when we discuss eternity. Everyone was denied access to God’s glory after the fall of Adam, even the rightous. It was only through God’s profound love that He sent a redeemer to make Heaven accessible, once again. It was only through this action and through Jesus that any of us have an opportunity to get to the Father.

All people need to draw closer to the one who saves. We all have an obligation to seek and know the Truth in Jesus Christ. Those, however, that are invincibly ignorant, can not ever know Jesus unless he is introduced to Him. That is where evangelization comes in.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
No! Jesus was telling an awful, blasphemous fib!

Well, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way. lol

Obviously, the statement is true (starting with certain fundamental Christian presuppositions).

But can I ask just one question: Was Job saved?

Job wasn’t an Israelite. The Israelites were the chosen People of God. Now we are the Chosen People. Job is, therefore, the historical equivalent of a non-Christian, yet God called him the only blameless and upright man on earth. gasp

In Romans Paul talks about being a law unto oneself regarding those who hadn’t heard the Gospel before. He says that they know innately God’s stipulations and he will judge accordingly.

The fact of the matter is: Many have never heard the Gospel. Many have been raised to believe the Gospel is something it is not. Many have found God in their own religious practices: merciful, gracious, kind, all-knowing, all-seeing, the maker and sustainer of the world and judge of mankind, and daily they lift up their voices to him. Many have been uncertain about what to believe their whole lives but have lived according to truth and love even so, and in this way inadvertently walked the way of Christ.

To say that God condemns all people to Hell that haven’t heard the message of salvation, to say that he condemns those that live according to his precepts even if not Christians and who don’t know better–well, frankly, that doesn’t sound like a just or merciful God, which mine certainly is.

But - the words in that verse can be taken in least two senses.

  • And that’s independent of whether they are the words of Jesus Himself
    or
  • are a speech put into His mouth (& expressing His own teaching even though they might not be His own spoken words).
It’s because the meaning of the gospel is so important, that these questions need to be asked. And only you can tell us what you mean & understand by that verse; we are not mind-readers 🙂

Christ said this.

You are getting pretty desperate when you start using movie illustrations to support your views re the Sacred Scriptures.

Nice attempt at trying to divert the main point of the tread.

I hope you put as much effort into telling people that the Lord Jesus says He is the ONLY way to God.
