Of course not. I will be the first to applaud you for taking the high road. I look forward to the day. šŸ‘
Maybe we can both shield our vision (so that one is not looking at the other) and each make the first baby step…

Right, but what does any of that do about 50 million dead babies? Or the millions more under threat?

Viva la Muerte!
Nothing will change without cooperation.

Even with cooperation it’s going to be hard enough because of hardened stances.

These choices remain - do what feels good, do what makes a difference:

-some approaches to abortion allow us to make both choices simultaneously

-in some other, more radical approaches these choices are mutually exclusive.

Do you watch the Daily Show? I would agree that he tends to favor lampooning the Right but he does it plenty to the Left as well. The Democrats WILL start yelling. They already have. They won’t be civil probably; you’re right. But what I’m tired of is the fact that both claim to be the moral/civil high road-takers and yet both are equally bad. Republicans in this forum act like the posters at the liberal rallies are totally unacceptable and yet the Tea Party is laden with racism and hate-mongering signs and folks, too? People in here love to blast the tactics of Acorn and SEIU and yet when someone steps on a protester’s face and smears the foot against their face, that’s ok and understandable. I’m tired of political apologetics. Republicans are generally for big business, corporations, the wealthy, the powerful, military adventurism, nation-building, and profiteering. The Democrats are generally out for redistribution, sickening moral innovations and re-sewing our cultural fabric, and a more socialist agenda. Both don’t benefit the common man. They are both excessive in their views and thus unreasonable. One hates public sector jobs and blames the public sector for everything when we know full well the public sector is necessary and usually beneficial to our culture. And the other side is a one-trick pony that hates the private sector and aims to punish the heck out of them for being industrious, take the wealth, redistribute it. Both are nuts. Why people passionately defend Republicans or Democrats is beyond me. It’s naivate to the max.
And, wait for it, the Democrats will start yelling, screaming, etc. I don’t expect them to be any more civil while they are out of power than they have been in the past. Stewart will lampoon the Republicans at every chance and ignore the screeching from the Left. ā€œSame as it ever was.ā€

Here here! When the government has it’s boot on your throat, does it really matter if it’s the left foot or the right one?

I will not cooperate with people who believe is acceptable to kill children. Period.

So often it’s like two sides of the same ugly coin, isn’t it? Take illegal immigration. The Democrats like it because it creates a new culture of people to give entitlements to and make dependent on the gov’t so they’ll give them votes. The Republicans, being big business and agricultural and $$$-driven to find a cheap way out like the cheap labor from illegals. They both encourage it.

Or take the deficit. Liberals will throw the $$$ away on social programs and entitlements, Republicans will dump it into nation-building adventurism and tax cuts for the rich.

Or take the constitution. Democrats flat-out avoid it often times and Republicans want to change things like allowing a child born on American soil to be an American because it was ā€œa mistakeā€ by the Founding Fathers . Or they try to make the Establishment Clause somehow NOT a separation of Church and State  And yet they’re ā€œstrict constitutionalists!ā€ LOL

Both liberals and conservatives are warmongers. WWII, Vietnam were both Democratic wars. Iraq, Afghanistan conservative ones.

Both are unpatriotic. The Democrats feel sorry for the rest of the world and apologize for America all the time. We’re the bad guys in Obama’s eyes. America is a bully in his opinion. And yet the Republicans, for all their flag-waving apple pie rodeo shoot ā€˜em up beef-eatin’ good ole boy antics love to OUTSOURCE our American jobs to foreigners and get our guys killed in nation-building.

Liberals ruin holidays like Christmas because it’s too Christiany. Conservatives ruin Halloween saying it’s un-Christian, pagan, and evil.

Both stink.

What is naive is sitting on the sidelines and throwing stones at both sides. There are profound moral and economic differences between the views of the two parties. You cannot paper these over by recommending people join hands and sing Kumbaya nor do you help by throwing up your hands and saying a pox on both houses.

Our government works best with confrontation. There is no way that I want to get along with people who believe the basis of the healthcare bill is making sure that abortion is covered or that the solution to economic problems is more food stamps.

Yes, I’ve watched the Daily Show. The few times he lampoons the Left hardly balance out the lampooning of the Right. How does straddling that picket fence feel? Ever get something stuck where it shouldn’t be? šŸ˜›

I am a Republican, but that doesn’t mean I agree with every Republican and/or every action the Party takes. I defend them when they should be defended. I’m sure there are Catholic Democrats who do the same. My passion is received for His Passion.

I never advocated Kumbaya. I would prefer something from Pink Floyd like Comfortably Numb. šŸ˜‰ And if you seriously think being independent and seeing the good and bad in both parties is a bad thing and rather you’d like to ignorantly bury your head in the sand and think your far Right views are all Christian, holy, without sin, beneficial, and that everything the left advocates is pure evil, my friend, that is the summit of childish naivate. I am not papering over anything, just calling a spade a spade and you don’t like it. You feel comfy in your little rock-throwing GOP tea party zone thinking like a Pharisee that you have the corner on morality, truth, goodness, wholesomeness, and righteous anger. Problem is, that’s naive and childish. There are profound differences. You’re actually right on that statement. Good and bad in both. You make the choice to vote conservatively. Fine. Free country. But don’t insult my intelligence and the intelligence of others on here with the insane idea that the Republicans are always right, dems always wrong, and that the Democrats are totally evil. It’s nonsense and you know it. The statement that we work best under confrontation is laughable. Yeah, we’re getting a lot accomplished with confrontation, aren’t we? Our government is a joke right now and likely to remain that way when the tea party takes over and our government is in full stalemate mode. The Right will oppose Obama even if he sneezes for political gain, the Left will stall and fight and stimy the Right to make them look like the party of NO, which they are, and nothing will get done.

Stating that I advocate voting for nobody, throwing my hands up, and singing folks songs betrays either your stubbornness or reading comprehension issues. I have said and advocated neither. You obtained those conclusions all by yourself, only God knows how. I am saying that one should vote for THE CANDIDATE and the ISSUES, not the party and the hardline anything. I voted for six Democrats, six Republicans on my California ballot. Your fear-mongering, guilt trips, and bullying on here won’t change a thing in my decision-making. You only reinforce that I’m right! šŸ‘:)šŸ˜‰

The part about the ā€œbasisā€ for healthcare being abortion is utterly laughable. When did even the liberal Obama make such a statement? ā€œBasis?ā€ :p:rolleyes: Wow…

Well aren’t you proud of yourself now with the rectal humor. Aren’t you the funny guy!

Being a thinker, independent, making my own decisions without brainwashing, not being a zombie who jealously defends one idealogy and convinces himself of an infallible political institution? Yep, I’m real happy. I think your posts betray your own type of political hemorroidal problems, rlg. You seem pretty party-line to me or you wouldn’t be mocking me for not towing the line, right? Your insults at the beginning then tepid and quasi-bear hug outreach to Catholic Democrats at the end lead me to need Dramamine. Why you mention your Passion for the Passion at the end is beyond me. Is there anyone here who doesn’t feel that way? 🤷

Believe what you will, gurneyhalleck1. I’m not a party-line Republican. I vote Catholic. For me, that means my vote for national candidates tend to be Republican, therefore I register Republican. In local elections, I tend to be more liberal. I support state-sponsored healthcare, immigration reform, an end to the death penalty, etc.

So, take your Dramamine, if you will. Your wishy-washy outlook on life concerns me, since you teach children. As a victim of California public schools, I will pray for your students.

Great post and I could have agreed with you 100% until the bolded value judgement.

Shows more than being an independent as claimed.

So, you are both in favor of continuing the uncivil rhetoric then. I guess Stewart should have taken ā€œindependentsā€ to task, as well. šŸ˜›

Actually I think the independents are more like zombies than anyone. At least the left know what they want regardless of how wrong, misguided and strange it can be. The right may not always be right but they tend to work out better solutions than the left while the independents wander aimlessly back and forth like zombies playing keep away with the two parties with no real ideas or solutions as to how they are going to catch the ball.

Quit with the broad general statements that have no basis in fact. Is it necessary to always use insults?

gurneyhalleck, you said that Republicans are constantly standing in the way of Obama.

What I don’t get is that Obama had the House, Senate, and Presidency, and he passed a whole lot of his spending ideas. Now that an election is coming around, and it’s the Midterms (which are almost always a referendum on the party in power), polling has consistently shown that people, not just Republicans (the Party of No, right?), but the American people, are the ones who don’t want the spending packages, bailouts, and complicated plans of Obama.

Now let me break your post down:

And if you seriously think being independent and seeing the good and bad in both parties is a bad thing and rather you’d like to ignorantly bury your head in the sand and think your far Right views are all Christian, holy, without sin, beneficial, and that everything the left advocates is pure evil, my friend, that is the summit of childish naivate.

This is silly. Every time I give my views, I at least try to do so in response to the other side’s views. I don’t ignore both sides. I believe what I believe. Are you saying I’m not allowed to believe what I believe, and disagree with what the opposite side believes?

I am not papering over anything, just calling a spade a spade and you don’t like it. You feel comfy in your little rock-throwing GOP tea party zone thinking like a Pharisee that you have the corner on morality, truth, goodness, wholesomeness, and righteous anger. Problem is, that’s naive and childish.

**I’ll speak for myself in response to this: I don’t think the ā€œrock-throwing GOP tea party zoneā€ is the sole corner of the universe founded on truth, goodness, etc. I do however think that my ideology is the right way to get this country back on track, and that the opposition’s ideology will worsen the economic crisis.

And FYI, conservative Republicans are the ones who tend to agree with the Church on those non-negotiable issues such as abortion, marriage, and family. And I will stand on those conservative Catholic positions, because they are Catholic and they are conservative.**

History shows that conservative principles have saved this country from economic downturns. I don’t think Democrats are totally evil. I think that their policies are so economically destructive that they either have to be stupid, which I doubt, or they are doing it on purpose.

You don’t sound very willing to compromise with The Right, nor does Obama. Let’s see Obama pass two or three ideas of The Right before we talk about compromise.

My Giants just won the World Series so this goofy post doesn’t even get under my skin. Yes, I’m THAT happy! So, quick reply while I’m in the World Series euphoria…

Shame on you. Shame on you. I don’t vote a party line as a Republican and vote the way you like so I’m a ā€œconcern?ā€ Do you seriously choose a qualified teacher based on how they vote? That is so stupid. Plain stupid. I was with you on the first part of the post and ready to wish you well and say, ā€œgood enough, friendā€ and you have to end this post with the idiotic words you chose. Shame on you. You don’t know me, rlg. You haven’t a clue about me or the job I do. I work my butt off and love my kids. I cherish my classes and I work 'em HARD. I teach to standards, teach Christianity in the classroom along with the other world religions. I teach Catholicism as per standards. I teach Jesus Christ. We read the Bible. I teach about the heresies, I teach about the Old Testament. We study St. Polycarp, learn about the papacy, the Orthodox, the early Church. I bust my butt to teach these kids right from wrong all year long. I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into my classroom. You haven’t a CLUE what I do. You’re too deeply brainwashed by the Right and think all public school teachers are communist Maoist psychos out to convert your kids. Shame on you. Your ignorance is almost palpable. I’m appauled by this post. As to the last charge that you’re a ā€œvictimā€ of the public schools, I can’t speak to that. Obviously somewhere along the way you weren’t properly taught manners, critical thinking, being impartial and fair, analysis, or to get to know someone before you slam their character.

You sit here and say how you’re mostly conservative but also liberal. Hello? Hello? Is that not what I’ve been saying? I’ve been telling you (and it’s like speaking to a brick) that I vote for both parties based on the issues and the candidate. Yet when you do it, it’s righteous and holy. When I do it, it’s ā€œconcerningā€ and ā€œwishy washy?ā€ I’m curious why your bipartisan open-minded mix of liberal and conservative is so prudent and wise and yet mine is somehow detrimental to kids and disturbing.

You’ve made my case for me that your erratic and inconsistent nonsense is just that, nonsense. I’m putting you on ignore and could care less what you have to say—period. You don’t need to pray for my students. You need prayer yourself.

Everything you wrote is almost exactly my views on the subject. I used to be a pretty hardcore liberal when I was younger, but as I’ve gotten older, wiser, and gained a broader worldview, and realized the difference between ā€œfairā€ and ā€œrightā€, I’ve gone much more middle of the road.

I’ve watched this liberal vs. conservative war destroy this country and mire us in economic disaster in the prime of my life. I see a deficit spiraling out of control that neither side seems willing to do anything about, while we go further into debt to China.

The fact is, our government is full of crooks. If even 10% of the members of the House & Senate are honest, decent people, I’d be shocked. I think a lot of good men and women run for Congress with nothing but the best intentions of doing the right thing, and sticking up for the little guy, but it doesn’t take them long to realize that that’s just not how things work in Washington. You don’t represent the people in that role - you represent whatever your party wants, and whatever special interest lobbyist group is offering the biggest campaign contribution.

The things that really need to happen to fix it - ie, congressional term limits, congressional pay caps, repealing the 17th amendment - will likely not happen, because doing so would harm the parasite in Washington that make all the rules. Again, there are a handful in office that might very well support these things - but they are a small minority. Add to that, our system of checks and balances is way out of whack, with courts making laws rather than interpreting them.

I had to sound so bitter and jaded… I just really think the system is broken and I don’t know what it’s going to take for the necessary overhauls to happen.
