But where do these necro-ordinances stop? Why not receive the Sacrament (that would be Eucharist for our Catholic readership) on behalf of the dead?
Good question. Why stop with baptism? Why not offer the sacrament of marriage assuming of course that the spouse or even spouses depending on how long ago has also died and is agreeable.

Actually I think we do receive the Eucharist frequently for the souls in purgatory don’t we? I dno’t think it is quite the same thing.

Oh yeah, the argument that Catholics “don’t think there’s a Gospel in heaven” is completely assine.

Read the Book of Revelation. Actually, read Scott Hahn’s excellent book “The Lord’s Supper” in connection with the Book of Revelation. Rather than concerning yourself with necro-ordinances and a cheap imitation of Mason clothing, tokens, symbols and phrases in the LDS temple, the Book of Revelation shows us that we all have a chance to experience heaven on earth every Sabbath in the form of the Holy Mass.

Marriage is offered as a sealing ordinance - I’ve participated in it many times.

This makes no sense to me. The scriptures are clear. The catechism is clear.

Someone who qualifies for baptism of desire IS baptized from a sacramental point of view. It is NOT the human pouring the water and praying that infuses one with grace. It is GOD.

God bestows grace on earth and in heaven. When we die there is no need for human devices such as missionaries. Jesus preaches and in a perfect manner. God makes himself known in the afterlife. No one can fail to understand the gospel at the at point. “EVERY knee shall bow and EVERY tongue confess…” Purgatory is removal of the stain of sin from the penitent. Hell is knowing the truth and knowing you didn’t accept it when given the chance and/or that you didn’t act on it. Heaven is the presence of God.

It is a very “sci-fi” human concept that we will have apartments in “spiritville” where missionaries will be lining us up for classes and trying to convince of the truth. that is what THIS life is for. God chooses where and when to place us on this earth. He knows who belongs where and his will be done.

baptizing the dead implies that God needs us to do his work when in actuality we need to do his work for our own sake…here and now. After death it’s too late.

Are you saying marriages are offered to the dead?
Absolutely! (At least in LDS theology) The sealing ordinance can take place if the proper geneological research has been done and if the necro-ordinances of baptism, confirmation and the endowment have been administered to a living proxy on behalf of the dead. This in LDS theology is essential and necessary (D & C 131 and 132) if one is to attain the highest degree of glory in the Celestial Kingdom and pass the angels which serve as sentinels on their way to exaltation (i.e. godhood) in all things (cf. D & C 132:19).

OMG I guess I knew that but…

There is a word for this obsession with death but it escapes me for the moment.

I’m not joking…besides watch it with the “you Mormons” comment! I’m happily an ex-Mormon (officially removed from the LDS church records last year) who has crossed the Tiber! 🙂

necromania - an irresistible sexual attraction to dead bodies SOURCE

You guys are sexually attracted to dead bodies:eek: …what else do you guys do with dead bodies?
What? I didn’t know that is what necromania was. I thought it was simply an obsession with dead bodies. Sorry.

Wait a minute. Is that really what megatron is saying? That there is the sexual thing too?

Okay. I can’t take anymore. Because I am sorry I know we are supposed to be polite and everything about other religions but…
that’s too much for me.
